Book Synopsis
In a quiet town, Wei Yunqing, the wealthiest man in the area, faced a nightmare when his only son, Wei Hao, was suddenly kidnapped. The abductors demanded a hefty ransom but left no clues behind. As the police investigation hit a dead end, three of Wei Hao's classmates—Ma Zhaoqiang, Li Jun, and Xue Yungui—also went missing, complicating the case further.
As the investigation deepened, authorities discovered that Wei Hao appeared unusually calm in the kidnapping video, as if everything was under his control. The presence of four boxes of high-end instant noodles suggested that the kidnappers might be people he knew well.
Meanwhile, Ma Zhaoqiang's father noticed some unusual changes at home and suspected the presence of a third party. Amidst a web of complex clues, the police gradually uncovered a dark secret hidden within a single-parent family. It turned out that Ma Zhaoqiang had long been bullied by Wei Hao and others at school, and his father's recent unemployment had only worsened their situation.
In a desperate bid to protect his son, Father Ma orchestrated what appeared to be a self-directed kidnapping scheme, even going so far as to kill one of the participants, Xue Yungui, to prevent potential retaliation. The story reveals the helplessness and weight of the adult world and the extreme choices a father is willing to make for his child.
