Book Synopsis
Aunt Xiu pushed open the door and looked up to see Light Clouds drifting across the moon. In the deep night, where only moonlight illuminated the surroundings and streetlights were absent, she carried a hoe and some items as she walked outside, her elongated silhouette disappearing into the darkness.
The garden was filled with densely planted night-blooming jasmine, its fragrance pleasant during the day and intoxicating at night.
On a summer evening in June, Aunt Xiu and her husband were busy tidying up their home, making it bright and welcoming. A glance around revealed a neat and clean space that felt comfortable.
Tomorrow was the day when her granddaughter Si Si would bring her boyfriend home. Aunt Xiu and her husband had prepared early, ensuring the house was spotless. In the center of the village stood their house, feeling particularly lonely.
"Once they arrive tomorrow, make sure not to mention her past. We don’t want to stir up any old troubles," Aunt Xiu said as she filled a kettle with water. Her husband mumbled with his mouth full, "As long as he treats Si'er sincerely, it won’t matter. My Si'er is not without admirers."
"All that matters is her happiness," Aunt Xiu replied coldly, quickening her pace as she hurried off to the garden with her basket of vegetables.
