Book Synopsis
In the court, I found myself at odds with Ye Shun, and the atmosphere was tense.
It was all about the Chancellor's reforms. I supported the Chancellor's faction without hesitation, while Ye Shun stood by Su Lao, opposing me vehemently.
He openly and subtly criticized my lack of consideration in handling matters, claiming that the reform would affect the foundation of the new dynasty, causing panic among the people and ultimately being counterproductive. Ye Shun had always been indecisive in his actions, and I couldn't help but sneer inwardly.
"Lord Meiyang, I will ensure that this matter proceeds smoothly," the Chancellor said, cupping his fists in a gesture of respect as he nodded to me. As he passed by Ye Shun, he deliberately let out a heavy snort, sweeping his wide sleeves before turning away and descending the white jade steps without looking back.
Ye Shun stood quietly on the white jade stairs, facing the wind alone, his expression as calm as ever.
"Meiyang, Lai Yue has prepared two dishes at home, and I've brought your favorite drink, A Dream of the Mortal World."
Everyone in the court knew that Meiyang was a wine enthusiast who could drink a thousand cups without getting drunk. Ye Shun's words stirred my heart slightly, and I swallowed my saliva before replying, "Meiyang can be quite picky about his drinks."
"A century-old brew, crafted by Wine Immortal, leaves a fragrant aftertaste," he smiled at me.
His smile warmed my heart, and I found myself nodding involuntarily.
