In the late years of the Qing Dynasty, Li Jinshan, who was then the Chief of the Qing Dynasty Astronomical Bureau, observed the stars at night and noticed that the Zi Wei Emperor Star was setting in the west. He predicted that the Great Qing's fortunes were coming to an end.
Understanding that there was no hope for revival, he donned a Daoist robe and fled the capital in advance, beginning a life of fortune-telling and wandering.
However, during that time, chaos reigned and the people suffered greatly. Life was difficult, and even basic sustenance became a problem. Who had spare money to seek fortune-telling, divination, or Feng Shui consultations?
Thus, as Li Jinshan traveled in exile, his days were extremely hard, filled with unbearable suffering.
