I originally thought Zhang Ming was talking in his sleep. But when I clearly heard his words, my heart sank. The man I loved wholeheartedly was plotting to sell me. Unknowingly, tears streamed down my face.
"Baby," I whispered.
I called out to the Mouse Babies from the sewer. Hungry, they began searching for food, crawling frantically towards Zhang Ming. At that moment, he was completely unaware.
"This woman may be a bit crazy, but she can bear children," he said. "And her body is good."
Zhang Ming was excitedly making a phone call. The next second, his expression changed.
"What’s going on?" Zhang Ming looked around in panic. "Something is biting me!"
He picked up a flashlight and shone it on his legs. The Mouse Babies were gnawing at him furiously.
"Why are there still mice?" he exclaimed. "Yue Yue, didn’t you clean properly?"
I pretended to know nothing, looking at Zhang Ming with a blank expression. "Honey, what’s wrong?"
I said with a sense of grievance.
Zhang Ming was startled and began to run around the balcony.
He started to stomp on the mouse babies, who squeaked loudly as they were stepped on.
"Honey, what's wrong?" I said, my voice trembling with tears.
It was as if Zhang Ming didn't hear me at all; he continued to frantically stomp on the mice beneath him.
The mouse babies quickly scurried into his pant legs, some even burrowing into his skin.
"Don't move," I commanded sharply.
The mouse babies immediately froze in place.
Zhang Ming felt the pain vanish.
He looked up at me in surprise.
"Can you control the mice?"
"Honey, you promised that even if I were a mouse, you would still love me," I said softly.
A flicker of fear crossed Zhang Ming's eyes.
He wanted to escape from this place, but after just a few steps, he sensed something was off.
Looking around, he discovered that the room had become infested with countless mice without him realizing it.
Zhang Ming was surrounded by them.
"Honey, didn't you say you wouldn't hurt me?"
"But you actually wanted to sell me," I said with a cold smile.
Zhang Ming was so frightened that he couldn't find his voice.
"You... are you really the Mouse Spirit?"
He stammered as he spoke.
I nodded in response.
"It's never too late to know."
I smiled and returned to my original form.
A massive black rat appeared before Zhang Ming.
Zhang Ming was terrified to the point of losing control.
"Don't come any closer," he trembled.
I walked towards Zhang Ming.
He tried to escape, but there was no way out.
The Mouse Babies surrounded him completely.
"I told you, I am the Mouse Spirit," I said with a grin.
Zhang Ming looked at me in fear, unable to utter a word.
"Babies, it's time to eat."
I said coldly.
The Mouse Babies crawled towards Zhang Ming.
"Don't come closer! Don't come closer!"
Zhang Ming screamed in despair.
The Mouse Babies climbed onto his body and began to gnaw frantically.
"Help! Help!" Zhang Ming shouted loudly.
I laughed uncontrollably.
"Weren't you just saying you wanted to sell me?"
"Zhang Ming, you're even worse than a pig."
I let out a cold laugh.
The Mouse Babies instantly swarmed over Zhang Ming.
"Let me go, let me go!"
Zhang Ming's cries echoed incessantly.
Zhang Ming was dead.
He had turned into a white skeleton.
I felt a pang of sadness. I never expected that the man I truly loved would leave me in such a way.
"Mommy, we're still hungry."
The Mouse Babies chirped around my feet.
I patted my somewhat shriveled belly.
I was hungry too.
Just then, I heard Old Wang's footsteps as he climbed the stairs.
He moved with a light step.
I knew he had just returned from outside.
He was heading to the trash can to throw away a black plastic bag.
Soon, Old Wang knocked on my door.
As soon as I opened it, I was startled by the sharp kitchen knife in his hand.
"Don't scream, or I'll slit your throat," Old Wang said menacingly.
He shut the door behind him, wearing a sinister grin.
"If you behave, I might make your death a bit more painless."
"Where's your man?" I asked calmly, looking at him.
"Are you looking for him?"
Old Wang ignored my question and began rummaging through my house.
When he spotted the white skeleton on the balcony of the bedroom, he was taken aback.
He stepped back in shock.
"Where's your man?"
"Isn't that him?"
I replied calmly.
At that moment, Old Wang realized that my severed arm was not bleeding.
"You... you..."
His face was filled with terror.
"I am the Mouse Spirit."
I said with a smile.
"You... you're a monster?"
Old Wang stammered.
"Mouse Babies, come out."
I whispered.
The Mouse Babies surged out from the waterway, crawling frantically toward Old Wang.
"Ah, what is this? So terrifying!"
Old Wang began to scream.
Just then, Zhang Ming's phone rang.
I picked it up and saw it was a call from someone saved as Buyer.
I didn't answer but sent a text instead.
"I'll bring the person over, find a more secluded place."
The other party quickly replied with an address.
"Buddy, I've chosen a super remote spot for you this time; you definitely won't be discovered."
I smiled and replied, "We'll meet as planned."
I wouldn't need Zhang Ming anymore.
He wouldn't need this Buyer either.
