The waiter hurried into the kitchen after speaking.
"It seems that the Shopkeeper is also one of us," Zhou Meng whispered.
Before long, a man in his late twenties, wearing a grease-stained apron, came out and approached Su Han. "It's a small place, and you have many people. Please, the private room inside."
The so-called private room was merely a resting area for the owner and the Shopkeeper. As soon as the man entered, he closed the door behind him. "The place is humble, and I apologize for any offense. I am Wang Wu."
Wang Wu! This was the person that Chu Feng had specifically mentioned!
Su Han sized him up. "Why is your name so unique?"
Wang Wu was taken aback. "My surname is Wang, and I have many siblings. I'm the youngest, ranked fifth. My parents aren't very educated, so they just gave me this name."
"I'm Su Han," Su Han introduced himself briefly along with their mission.
Wang Wu listened intently, his brow gradually furrowing. "I know about the Lin family; it's not easy to handle. Zhang Biao is a local tyrant in Linjiang City, and he has influence everywhere here. His residence in the west of the city is always bustling with guests, all of whom are prominent figures in Linjiang City. It won't be easy to make him release someone willingly. First, his backing is Ma Batian, who knows many influential people—nobles and dignitaries alike. Second, our influence here is weak; Linjiang City doesn't hold significant strategic importance, so our superiors don't pay much attention to it."
Su Han had anticipated these difficulties before coming. If it were an easy task, Chu Feng would never have sent him.
"Wang brother..."
"Just call me Lao Wu; everyone who knows me calls me that."
"Alright, Lao Wu." Su Han continued without hesitation, "I need to visit Zhang Biao personally; we should start with courtesy before resorting to force. Do you have a way to arrange that?"
"Absolutely!" Wang Wu replied confidently. "I've been in Linjiang City for three years, and I do more than just run a tavern. The leader of the Boatmen, Li Mazi, is familiar with me; he oversees all the Boatmen in Linjiang City, and Zhang Biao has to give him some respect."
"Then it's settled; arrange for me to meet Zhang Biao tomorrow." Su Han pondered for a moment before adding, "Also, I need all information on Zhang Biao, especially about his family members. The more detailed, the better."
"That's simple," Wang Wu agreed readily. "I'll provide everything for you tomorrow."
Su Han felt somewhat relieved. "Lao Wu, aside from this matter, there's another thing. You've been undercover in Linjiang City for three years now; your mission is complete. Once this matter is settled, come back to Tiandu with us."
Wang Wu fell silent.
After a while, he spoke up again: "I'm from Hangzhou. Five years ago, I was recruited into the Royal Confidential Office and trained in Tiandu for a year. Three years ago, I was ordered to come to Linjiang City and have stayed here ev Second Division nce. My cooking skills are decent; the local cuisine here is quite similar to that of Hangzhou—both tend toward lighter flavors—and I've gradually gotten used to it. Initially, I even thought about marrying someone here and settling down."
A shadow guard who had been undercover for a long time felt an indescribable sense of emotion upon learning that he could finally return home.
Not only in Linjiang City, but perhaps in every city across the land, there exists a quietly unassuming individual who is, in fact, a shadow guard.
Wang Wu stood up and said, "You haven't eaten yet, have you? I told you, I'm quite good at cooking. Let me prepare a few of my signature dishes for you to try. Tomorrow... sigh... Zhang Biao is really tough to deal with."
