The moon hung high in the sky, and the library of Qintian Observatory was enveloped in silence. Liu Ying held the Copper Key that Xu Yuan had just given her, moving cautiously between the densely packed bookshelves. The back of the key was engraved with the character for "Heaven," mirroring the patterns on the copper mirror left by her grandfather.
"It should be here..." She examined every possible spot for hidden mechanisms by candlelight. Suddenly, in a dark corner of a bookshelf, she discovered an inconspicuous copper clasp. The key fit perfectly into it, and with a soft click, the bookshelf slowly moved aside, revealing a narrow passageway.
"Indeed, there is a secret chamber." Liu Ying took a deep breath and entered with her lantern in hand.
The secret chamber was small, its walls lined with bookshelves. However, unlike those outside, the books here were mostly covered in thick layers of dust, clearly neglected for many years. Her gaze was drawn to a tattered volume. The spine faintly displayed the words "Celestial Phenomena Compendium," which was indeed the rare book her grandfather often mentioned.
As she opened the pages, a faint scent of sandalwood wafted out. This book had evidently been specially treated; despite its age, the text remained clear and legible.
"Tai Bai and Zi Wei appear together; fate can be altered..." she read softly, suddenly noticing a special entry: "On the seventh day of July at the Hour of the Rat., Tai Bai is overhead while Zi Wei loses its brilliance. At this time, Tian Ji opens, and celestial phenomena can be seen in the mirror. However, it requires four mirrors to unite before one can glimpse the truth..."
Just as she became engrossed in reading, she heard footsteps approaching from outside. Liu Ying quickly held her breath but then recognized a familiar voice: "It’s right here; I saw Liu Ying enter."
It was Chu Yuyan! The footsteps grew closer. Liu Ying hurriedly returned the book to its place but accidentally knocked over a nearby booklet. The pages scattered, revealing a note tucked inside.
In the dim light, she recognized her grandfather's handwriting: "The mirror is divided into four pieces, each hiding Tian Ji. One is in the hands of the powerful, one is passed down among the common folk, one is inherited through bloodlines, and one points to heavenly principles..."
"Hey, something seems off about this bookshelf!" The voice outside grew nearer.
Liu Ying had no time to think; she quickly tucked the note into her sleeve. At that moment, she noticed what seemed to be another exit at the far end of the secret chamber. In a corner was a hidden compartment marked with peculiar patterns.
Upon closer inspection, she realized these patterns were identical to those on the jade pendant Xu Yuan had given her!
"Hurry! Move the bookshelf!" Chu Yuyan's urgent voice came from outside.
In a moment of crisis, Liu Ying took off the jade pendant and pressed it against the hidden compartment. With a series of mechanical clicks, the wall slowly opened up to reveal a narrow corridor.
As she slipped into the passageway, the wall behind her silently closed shut. In the darkness, she heard Chu Yuyan's disappointed sigh from outside: "Strange; where did she go?"
Using the faint light from her lantern, Liu Ying proceeded cautiously. This corridor seemed long abandoned; cobwebs occasionally hung from above. After walking for about as long as it takes to burn an incense stick, she suddenly spotted a glimmer of light ahead. She quickened her pace but paused just before reaching the exit when she heard a familiar sound—the sound of a dizi.
"This dizi sound..." Her heart raced. "Could it be someone from Anyuan Marquis Manor?"
As she hesitated, a white dove suddenly flew past through an overhead gap, something tied to its wing. Liu Ying focused intently and realized it was a piece of bronze fragment!
At that moment, she noticed that the jade pendant suddenly emitted a faint glow, illuminating the wall and revealing a faint line of small characters: "Tian Ji has appeared, hurry to The Purple Forbidden Enclosure."
