Upon returning to the observatory, Liu Ying did not pause in her steps and walked straight to the desk. She gently unfolded the precious star chart and began her detailed calculations. The Bronze astrolabe turned in her hands, emitting faint clicking sounds. A Fu stood beside her, silently grinding ink for her, occasionally stealing glances at her focused profile. The young official furrowed her brow, completely immersed in the complex calculations.
"Strange..." Liu Ying's fingers lightly tapped a specific point on the Star Chart as she murmured to herself, "The appearance of Tai Bai during the day is indeed an anomaly, but if combined with the changes in the Purple Forbidden Enclosure last night..."
She opened the yellowed Astronomical Compendium left by her grandfather, her fingertips swiftly skimming over the densely packed records. Suddenly, her fingers halted, locking onto a page. There lay an ancient prophecy: "When Tai Bai approaches, Zi Wei loses its brilliance; when the gold list is inscribed, a destined person shall appear."
Liu Ying pondered thoughtfully. Although this prophecy was obscure, upon closer reflection, it seemed closely related to the current anomalies. Could it truly be connected to the imperial examination? But who exactly was this "destined person"?
"Miss," A Fu's voice interrupted her thoughts, " Imperial Physician Su has arrived."
Liu Ying looked up to see a young physician in a blue robe standing at the door, holding a delicate medicine pouch. It was Su Jinzhi, someone she had known since childhood.
Su Jinzhi entered and gently placed the medicine pouch on the desk. He looked at Liu Ying's slightly fatigued face and said with concern, "I heard you stayed up until the early hours again last night. This is a calming tea I specially prepared for you; remember to take it."
Liu Ying felt a warmth rise in her heart as she gazed at Su Jinzhi. She smiled gently and replied, "Thank you for your concern, Doctor Su. However, with the unusual celestial phenomena these past few days, I must pay extra attention."
Su Jinzhi glanced at the open star chart. "Have you discovered anything unusual?"
After a moment's hesitation, Liu Ying decided to share her observations regarding Tai Bai's daytime appearance and the changes in the Purple Forbidden Enclosure. After listening, Su Jinzhi pondered for a moment before slowly responding, "The Imperial Medical Institute has also been unsettled lately. I've heard that His Majesty has been waking up in the middle of the night frequently; the physicians are speculating whether it is related to celestial events."
"Awakening in the middle of the night?" Liu Ying felt a stir of interest and was about to inquire further when someone rushed in from outside.
" Lady Liu," the newcomer said urgently, "Lord Zhang commands you to go to the library immediately." He added that it was to investigate some ancient texts.
Liu Ying had no choice but to put away the star chart and offered Su Jinzhi an apologetic smile. "We will discuss this further another day."
Su Jinzhi smiled and waved his hand dismissively. "You go ahead and take care of your matters. However..." He took out a small porcelain vial from the medicine pouch. "This is a pill for calming your mind; remember to take it with you."
Watching Liu Ying's departing figure, Su Jinzhi's eyes flickered with concern. He knew that given Liu Ying's nature, if she truly encountered challenging celestial phenomena, she would undoubtedly work tirelessly on her calculations without rest. Over the years, during such times, he always found an excuse to deliver medicine just to see her more often and share some of her worries and fatigue.
At that moment, Liu Ying was quickly making her way toward the library. As she organized her thoughts, she reflected on that ancient prophecy. Her intuition told her that this anomaly was anything but ordinary. Perhaps that so-called "destined person" would soon make an appearance.
The summer morning light spilled onto the bluestone pavement, casting mottled shadows from the trees. Within the deep courtyard of Qintian Observatory, everything appeared normal. Yet beneath this calm facade lay a brewing storm capable of changing destinies.
