Su Han selected five individuals: Lin Yu, Zhou Meng, Zhang Yan, Zhao Gang, and Su Yao. Su Yao is a female dark guard from the Royal Confidential Office, having graduated from the Qingfeng Pavilion training camp. With her striking beauty, she previously handled the delivery of confidential messages, but the reason Su Han chose her remains a mystery to others.
Lin Yu graduated from Tiandu Martial Arts alongside Su Han, and they both entered the Royal Confidential Office together, making their relationship the closest among the group. They all joined the Royal Confidential Office at the same time, yet Su Han was already capable of handling tasks independently, which made Lin Yu quite envious.
Chu Feng specifically arranged for the General Affairs Department to prepare a carriage for them. Just as Su Yao was about to board, Su Han pulled her aside and whispered some instructions.
"This..." Su Yao hesitated.
"Do as I say," Su Han insisted firmly.
"Understood."
Although Su Yao did not fully grasp the underlying meaning, the emphasis on discipline since entering the Royal Confidential Office led her to choose unconditional obedience.
"Get in the carriage; we’re leaving!"
Zhou Meng took charge of driving while Su Han settled into the passenger seat. Upon arriving in Tiandu, they planned to visit the South City Gate market to buy some Osmanthus Cake and enjoy the moonlight at Wangyue Tower. Of course, they also intended to spend a day wandering along Zhuque Avenue.
Zhuque Avenue is the busiest area in all of Tiandu, bustling with people from all walks of life. Vendors carrying burdens were everywhere; unlike the boisterous calls of northern vendors, those in Tiandu had a more straightforward way of selling. They often enhanced their calls by striking small gongs or bells in their hands, with different instruments used depending on their trade.
In quieter spots along the road, two-story buildings dotted the landscape. At this time of year, one might find a young lady sitting in her room on the second floor, sunlight filtering through lush green banana leaves and warming her as she secretly read poetry collections by talented scholars behind her parents' backs.
Su Han led Lin Yu and Zhang Yan to stand across from Wanbao Trading Company. "Lao Zhang, go check things out."
"Got it." Zhang Yan quickly made his way toward Wanbao Trading Company.
"Two bowls of Tea Soup," Su Han said as he and Lin Yu sat down at a Tea Soup stall.
Despite its small size—lacking even a table—customers had to sit on tiny stools or squat on the ground while holding their bowls. Yet, business was thriving. The Tea Soup here was finely textured and sweetly fragrant, brewed with carefully simmered syrup; it had to be consumed fresh for the best taste.
He poured the soup into a bowl and sprinkled it with a handful of sesame seeds and crushed peanuts. Even someone who had just eaten would find it hard to resist a bowl of this.
Arriving at Tiandu, Lin Yu felt his mouth water, having not yet had the chance to explore properly. He quickly finished a bowl of Tea Soup.
Su Han had just drunk about half a bowl when Zhang Yan returned and leaned in to whisper, “Two of our guys just went out; there’s only one person inside now. I confirmed it’s Lin Fu.”
“Boss, let’s settle the bill!”
Su Han stood up and nudged Lin Yu, who was still sipping his soup. “Come on, don’t be so pathetic. Let’s go.”
Reluctantly, Lin Yu set down his bowl.
The three of them made their way to Wanbao Trading Company, with Su Han being the first to enter.
“What can I get for you, sir?”
Inside the shop was a man in his forties, looking lazy and indifferent to the business at hand. However, his fluent Qian Yuan language was surprisingly impressive.
Lin Fu.
Su Han smiled slightly. “I’d like five hundred bolts of silk.”
“Five hundred bolts?”
