I seemed to have had a very long dream.
In the dream, I returned to the Twenty-First Century and fell asleep on the sofa.
When I woke up, the television screen was frozen on the last frame of a movie. I rubbed my sleepy eyes, feeling a bit of a headache, and vaguely remembered that I had dreamt something.
But I couldn't recall the content of the dream no matter how hard I tried.
“Miss Shaohua—” someone called out to me.
I slowly opened my eyes, and what greeted me was a sea of red. My head throbbed painfully as I realized I was still in that ancient-style room.
“Miss, you’re awake?”
I pressed my hand against my forehead and asked, “What day is it today?”
“In response to Miss, today is the wedding day of the Seventh Prince.” The maid replied before stepping back.
My head began to ache again as I sat dazedly on the edge of the bed, a sharp pain shooting through the back of my head.
Suddenly, memories flooded back like a tide crashing into my mind.
Seventh Prince… Qing Yu… He is getting married…
His marriage should have been a joyous occasion, but why do I feel so sad now?
My thoughts involuntarily drift back to that summer afternoon when the Seventh Prince sheltered me behind him, unabashedly declaring, “Shaohua is my favorite person!” My favorite person...
But now, Qing Yu, you are going to marry someone else.
I walked quietly through the imperial garden, unsure of where the Crown Prince had gone; perhaps he was busy plotting his grand ambitions. It was the Crown Prince who had pushed me down, leaving me unconscious for several days, after which I awoke to find everything changed.
The weather had turned cooler, and I shivered as I followed my memories to the Seventh Prince’s residence.
The blinding red color slowly tore apart my last shred of hope.
I saw the Seventh Prince dressed in a red wedding robe, standing in a prominent place. Though there was still a hint of foolishness in his eyes, he stood tall and graceful, handsome enough to draw everyone's gaze.
I stood outside the door, yet I couldn't muster the courage to step inside.
“Why isn’t Shaohua going in?” A maid who used to serve alongside me at the Seventh Prince’s residence spotted me and smiled brightly, pulling me toward him.
The Seventh Prince stared at me blankly, wanting to say something but ultimately falling silent.
“Qing Yu, you must be very happy!” I forced a smile as I greeted the Seventh Prince. “Congratulations on your wedding.”
As I stumbled through my words, my nose felt prickly with emotion.
I secretly mocked myself for falling for a fool.
The Crown Prince walked up to me, smiling gracefully, and wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "From now on, you must treat Ming Ye well," he said, bursting into laughter afterward.
That night, everyone was eagerly anticipating the Emperor's summons for the Seventh Prince and Princess Mingye, but instead, they received the news of the Emperor's passing.
In an instant, the vibrant red of celebration turned to stark white. No one expected that a joyous occasion would turn into a funeral, and everything happened so suddenly that it caught everyone off guard.
Soon after, the Empress, unable to accept the reality of the Former Emperor's death, followed him in death.
Consort De also found herself without a place in the palace after the Former Emperor's demise and tragically chose to end her life by drowning in a lake.
Once again, a coup unfolded within the palace, arriving so unexpectedly that it left everyone unprepared.
With the Former Emperor gone, the one most pleased was undoubtedly the Crown Prince, as he could finally ascend to the coveted throne he had long desired.
I was locked away in the attic, completely unaware of what was happening outside.
Especially concerning the Seventh Prince... what had happened to him?
