"I never expected to see you again, Nars," he said, a hint of surprise in his voice.
The acrid smell of gunpowder was swept towards Xiu Sha by the northern winds from the battlefield, swirling like fireflies before his pale, cream-colored eyes, waiting for judgment. The edge of his cloak sliced through the wind as he descended slowly.
"I thought Emperor Ban Sa had crushed you in his palm. Who would have thought you'd still have the audacity to cling to your so-called hope and survive in the body of a savage?" Xiu Sha sneered.
"You don't really think you can kill your way back here alone, do you? We… are somewhat old acquaintances, and it seems you can't even defeat me. Do you plan to rely on this ragtag group from Vamulel to challenge the Emperor?"
His words ignited a fury within Nars, who forcefully pushed aside Liu Xuan's consciousness. The energy surged through him, and with wide eyes that glowed like moonlight, he pointed at Xiu Sha and shouted, "Our two races can coexist harmoniously! It is you who would rather satisfy your meaningless desires than secure the future of this planet! How many innocent lives, how much wisdom passed down from our ancestors has vanished in the blink of an eye due to the wars you instigated?! Let me tell you, Xiu Sha, war will bring you nothing; you are merely a pawn for Ban Sa's ambitions! I must fight for the welfare of our millions of people and for our race!"
"Is that so?" Xiu Sha had already planted his toes on the ground.
"I'm sorry, but I fight for my race as well. The land and glory that your Inner Beings once took from us must be reclaimed! Resources belong only in the hands of the strong! What can you do besides farming at home?! We, the internal Human, will carry the glory of our homeworld beyond the star systems, making sure all beings in the universe know that our Sun system is also a powerful one!"
Xiu Sha remained unmoved, yet a layer of ionic shield enveloped his face, concealing his expression.
"So, do you understand now? My prince?"
"Hmph."
Blue Face Hero silently opened his palm. "Strong? You don't even understand what it means to be strong."
As he spoke, the Tianchuang Gloves on his hands suddenly gleamed with a cold light, shining like stars! Accompanied by powerful waves of Cosmic Energy, Blue Face Hero launched a punch aimed directly at Xiu Sha's face!
"Zing!"
The electromagnetic barrier on Xiu Sha's wrist immediately activated from its generator, blocking the energy punch launched by Blue Face Hero. Dust swirled around him as the impact sent him staggering back.
With a swift motion, Xiu Sha pushed off the ground and slid back several feet. It was as if the night moved with him; a thunderous roar echoed through the sky as lightning coiled around him. Energy beams gathered from the direction of the moon, descending upon him like a thunder god manifesting.
"I don't want to use my full strength against mere minions like those from Vamulel, but... for you, I am willing to go all out to kill you, Nars." With that declaration, Xiu Sha charged towards Blue Face Hero, lightning crackling wildly around him.
"Here, please accept my most sincere respect for your rebellion."
"Ha—" With a loud shout, lightning surged from Xiu Sha’s hands toward Blue Face Hero! Who could evade such speed?
Yet surprisingly, Blue Face Hero could.
It could be said that Nars was a gifted warrior among the Inner Beings. At just twenty-seven years old by their standards as Moon People, his combat prowess was already enough to rival even the strongest leaders among their kind. The internal Human, being extremely warlike since childhood, had been instilled with immense combat skills and ideologies. Their physical fitness and fighting abilities far surpassed those of the peace-loving Inner Beings.
If the Inner Beings wanted to maintain normal production and life without relying on brute force was futile; they had managed to hold onto their land thanks to their advanced technology and mastery over an area few planets could grasp—magic.
While the internal Human excelled in battle, the Inner Beings thrived on intellect. This disparity was why the former had long coveted the territory of the latter.
Due to this ongoing cycle of violent exchanges between their races, tacticians from both sides were speculating and waiting for a warrior who embodied strength, technology, and magic all at once.
What they did not expect was that this prince of the Inner Beings, who had lost everything before even ascending to power, was indeed that very warrior.
It seemed that Blue Face Hero had anticipated this strike; even before lightning crackled in Xiu Sha's hand, he leaped into the air. As he ascended, the thunderbolt struck precisely where he had just stood.
The bolt flew past him; with an almost perfect grasp of time, as soon as it passed by him, he dropped vertically to land. He bent his knees slightly as if responding to an invisible call; his armor—the Storm Armor—swiftly assembled around his calves. The pulse arcs within ignited engines instantaneously. In less than half a second of gaining tremendous acceleration, he pushed off hard with his left foot against the ground and swung his blade in mid-air toward Xiu Sha’s neck!
For ordinary opponents, this move would suffice for understanding them. However, this was his arch-nemesis—Xiu Sha. Their strengths were nearly equal.
Both sought to knock each other down with one punch; yet they both understood that once they engaged in battle, it would not be resolved with just one move or technique.
Everything happened in less than a second! Xiu Sha simply sidestepped the blade swung by Blue Face Hero, causing Blue Face Hero to miss completely!
Blue Face Hero's face turned slightly, and their glowing eyes collided at that moment. However, Blue Face Hero was quick to react, knowing that Xiu Sha would not let the opportunity slip by. He rolled away to dodge Xiu Sha's lightning strike and countered with a palm strike that perfectly intercepted Xiu Sha's incoming punch!
It was as if they lived in each other's minds; they could even predict how to respond to the next move. Xiu Sha and Blue Face Hero faced off, pushing against each other while testing each other's strength. They both shared a knowing smirk.
"You still rely on the same old tricks," Xiu Sha said. "Next, you won't be so lucky."
Not wanting to engage in banter, Blue Face Hero immediately leaped into action, raising a leg to kick Xiu Sha in the jaw. After being hit, Xiu Sha only staggered back a few steps. Standing firm, Blue Face Hero seized the moment to press the attack!
At such close range, Blue Face Hero couldn't guarantee a hit against his old rival, so he activated Storm Armor. The pointed steel armor on his shins erupted with a ghostly blue flame, granting him explosive acceleration as he leaped into the air and delivered a 720-degree spinning kick to Xiu Sha!
With the enhancement from Storm Armor, Blue Face Hero's leg strength was immense. Xiu Sha was struck twice and sent flying. However, he spread his arms wide and released a Force Field to stabilize his landing. Unfortunately, his ion mask had already cracked from the blows.
"You've crossed me," Xiu Sha said with a grim expression as he drew two blades from his arms and lunged at Blue Face Hero!
Blue Face Hero quickly dodged but only avoided the direct thrust of Xiu Sha's blade! As Emperor Ban Sa's trusted aide, Xiu Sha's strength was not to be underestimated—just as Blue Face Hero began planning his next move, Xiu Sha twisted his other arm around and thrust it toward Blue Face Hero from behind like it was made of rubber!
Xiu Sha's body was actually only half physical; the other half was an energy form that could reshape and reassemble itself at will. Because of this unique ability, no Inner Beings could match him in combat for more than ten exchanges except for Nars.
In a moment of desperation, Blue Face Hero had no choice but to activate his Particle Shield as he turned around to counter! With a loud crash, the Particle Shield developed cracks!
Xiu Sha's power was enough for him to withstand Divine Fist's iron fist! And he didn't give Blue Face Hero any chance to catch his breath—one slash after another...
The cracks in the Particle Shield grew larger! Finally, with a powerful strike—
"Crash!" The Particle Shield shattered!
As another slash came down, Blue Face Hero quickly sidestepped and summoned his hand cannon, aiming for Xiu Sha's head and preparing to fire. However, Xiu Sha immediately raised an electromagnetic barrier that pressed against the cannon's muzzle. A muffled explosion sounded as the cannon was destroyed by the blast from within.
Startled, Blue Face Hero summoned a Recoil Projectile launcher with his other hand in an attempt to push Xiu Sha back. Nars knew very well that he could exchange blows with Xiu Sha for several rounds, but if it came down to life or death, it would be difficult for him to win. In terms of martial arts training time, Xiu Sha had been practicing for three hundred years longer than him and could almost rival Nars' father.
But contrary to expectations, Xiu Sha grabbed the launcher from Blue Face Hero's hands and yanked it down forcefully before throwing it to the ground!
With no other options left, Blue Face Hero charged up his Tianchuang Gloves, readying an energy burst punch when suddenly a lightning whip wrapped around his neck!
While Blue Face Hero charged up his energy, Xiu Sha cast a spell that summoned lightning which formed into a whip-like shape. The lightning whip was then thrown out and tightly ensnared Blue Face Hero's neck!
The Blue Face Hero, constantly being electrocuted, found himself unable to break free; the more he struggled, the tighter the grip became. While on Homeworld, Nars had chosen to study Telekinesis Spell Arts, but Xiu Sha's domain happened to be the very Electric Spell Arts that countered him. The Electric Spell Arts were cast with incredible speed and could directly interrupt the casting of Telekinesis, functioning as a complete bloodline suppression.
"I wonder how long you can hold out," Xiu Sha sneered.
The Blue Face Hero gritted his teeth in pain, feeling utterly exhausted as he knelt on the ground. Sensing that it was nearly over, Xiu Sha kicked him down, laughing maniacally. "At last, Nars, you've lost to me! Hahaha..."
As he laughed wildly, Xiu Sha drew his battle blade and aimed it directly at the fallen hero. However, just as the blade was about to strike, it suddenly... stopped?
The Blue Face Hero focused his gaze and noticed that Xiu Sha was inexplicably reaching out with his left hand, as if grasping something. Turning his head, Xiu Sha's keen eyes caught a glimmer of glass reflecting light from a distance. He had caught a bullet.
"Eckton, take care of her," Xiu Sha commanded.
Nightmare was taken aback to see her bullet caught mid-air, but there was no time for her surprise—she turned around to see Thunder Eye rushing towards her cover!
In a hurry, Nightmare rolled into a pile of rubble for safety.
Xiu Sha shrugged and chuckled lightly. "It seems anything dares to join the fray these days, doesn't it?"
Meanwhile, the Blue Face Hero lay silent and motionless on the ground.
"Alright then," Xiu Sha said as he turned back to the fallen hero. "Goodbye, little brother."
The battle blade hovering in mid-air suddenly fell with force.
Yet, astonishingly, the Blue Face Hero did not bleed at all!
Xiu Sha felt as if his blade had merely been plunged into the ground! Could it be?! The Second-Level Arcane Art... had this young man already mastered it?!
"Clones!" Xiu Sha realized immediately and turned alert. Sure enough, two clones of the Blue Face Hero lunged at him from either side!
Xiu Sha hastily engaged in combat and slashed down the clones with two swift strikes. After catching his breath and pondering where the real Blue Face Hero had escaped to, a chilling killing intent loomed above him! He looked up abruptly but realized too late that—
The real Blue Face Hero had descended from above, raising his Laser Long Curved Blade high and striking down at Xiu Sha's neck!
"Shhh—"
In an instant, blood splattered everywhere as Xiu Sha's head rolled away across the ground before coming to a stop.
On another front,
Thunder Eye received orders and began searching for Nightmare's location. However, Nightmare was well-hidden in the darkness; even with thermal detection activated, Thunder Eye could not pinpoint her position.
"Blocked? Could it be Silicate Memory Glass combat gear?" Thunder Eye muttered to himself as he held his gun tightly. His yellow-boned feet stained with blood crunched over shattered tiles as he moved cautiously forward.
Yet years of combat experience told him that something was watching him from atop a mound of rubble ahead. Thunder Eye quickly zoomed in with his mechanical eye to scrutinize the hillock closely.
In the flickering light outside, he saw a small, unremarkable piece of purple amidst the gray-white ruins. Indeed, it was the Nightmare's helmet.
The Nightmare noticed that Thunder Eye had likely locked onto his position and decisively opened fire, right from the same old spot. Suddenly, a flash of light erupted from the mound, and Thunder Eye's eyes were hit once more. He let out a cry but only staggered a few steps. Covering his eyes, he realized he felt no pain.
"I forgot, I have a mechanical eye," he thought, instantly feeling fearless—his natural exoskeleton could ignore all weapon attacks below high-intensity lasers, and now that his only weakness was gone, what could this Vamulel person do against him?
Thunder Eye let out a sinister chuckle as he saw a figure rolling from behind the mound into the remnants of a nearby building. However, just as she rolled in, Thunder Eye raised his gun and fired decisively, causing a splash of blood to erupt.
"Ah! Hiss..." The Nightmare clutched her arm in pain and raised her face—this guy was much stronger than she had imagined; Thunder Eye's shooting skills were on par with her own.
Though her arm was hit, she could only endure the excruciating pain and run deeper into the building to hide again. Thunder Eye, having lost sight of her, appeared undaunted as he strode through the dimness, shouting, "Stop hiding, Vamulel warrior! Since you know you can't win, why struggle? Hehe..."
The Nightmare gently leaned her head against the steel frame, trying to concentrate to alleviate the pressure from her wound. She raised her gun and used Thunder Eye's voice to determine his current position.
"Surrender is your only choice for survival!" Thunder Eye roared with bared fangs when he saw she still dared not show herself. His shout confirmed the Nightmare's location. After marking the exact position in her helmet's scope, she switched to a laser bullet magazine on the high steel frame to her right.
The sound of reloading alerted Thunder Eye; just as he lifted his face, the Nightmare decisively revealed herself without aiming and fired four shots directly at the position she had just confirmed. The high-intensity Piva laser beams struck Thunder Eye in the same spot—his forehead—accurately and continuously.
However, Thunder Eye only felt a sharp pain in his forehead; aside from some cracks in his exoskeleton, it did not inflict any fatal damage. As Thunder Eye recovered and prepared to retaliate, the Nightmare quickly withdrew and ran across the wooden planks between the steel frames, aiming for the last remaining support before launching herself down.
A red groove was shot into the steel frame as Thunder Eye missed with a shot; however, at that moment, the Nightmare had already fired her grappling hook.
Though Thunder Eye was arrogant and proud, he realized from earlier that this opponent was not ordinary; if he aimed to kill her with one shot recklessly, it would greatly reduce his margin for error. The Nightmare was thinking exactly what Thunder Eye feared.
Calculating the timing perfectly, the Nightmare had already turned sideways in mid-air but did not receive any bullets as she expected. She glanced in surprise at Thunder Eye, who held his gun but hesitated to pull the trigger—a sense of foreboding surged within her.
Thunder Eye actually abandoned aiming at the Nightmare; with a slight adjustment of his arm, he aimed directly at the grappling hook hanging from the high steel frame and fired once. The stable grip was instantly shattered by the bullet, sending the Nightmare crashing down like a basketball thrown low while dragging along the rope.
"Where do you think you're running?"
The Nightmare felt pain all over but knew it wasn't time to rest; she forced her arm to push herself up slowly. In the distance, Thunder Eye looked down triumphantly at the struggling Nightmare and spat contemptuously.
With that said, Thunder Eye drew a combat knife from his waist and charged at her.
There was no room to create distance! The Nightmare could only activate the secondary start button on her gun's chamber; "Fate Conqueror" reassembled in her hands—the grip extended out while the square muzzle split open. The blade etched with glowing green markings thrust forward directly into an impending clash with Thunder Eye's incoming blade!
However, she only had one hand available. As Thunder Eye pressed down again with great force, the struggling Nightmare hadn’t reacted yet when he raised his hand for another powerful strike!
Nightmare exerted all her strength to block, but her gun had already been pierced through, the blade driving straight toward her eyes behind the holographic visor!
Nightmare wanted to counterattack, but Thunder Eye mercilessly knocked her weapon, shaped like a battle knife, away, sending it flying.
Forced to engage with her injured hand, Nightmare still found herself unable to contend with Thunder Eye's hard exoskeleton.
After exchanging blows for over ten rounds, Nightmare gradually fell behind in speed. Seizing the opportunity, Thunder Eye grabbed her arm and twisted it sharply.
"Ah!" Nightmare cried out in pain. Thunder Eye threw her to the ground, pulled out a dagger from his waist, and advanced to stab her directly!
Nightmare gripped the blade with all her might, the sharp edge quickly covering her hands in blood.
As the tip of the knife approached her throat, sinking slowly into the flesh of her hand, Nightmare felt that the flesh connecting her fingers was about to be severed.
Gritting her teeth, Nightmare fixed her gaze on Thunder Eye, feeling victory was within reach as she unleashed a wild glare from her single eye. The descending blade had already sunk down, disappearing from her view—now just inches from her neck!
There was no other option! Nightmare decided to gamble everything on this last resort she had hoped not to use.
"Helmet Gun—" she shouted at the top of her lungs.
In an instant, Nightmare's helmet seemed to have been waiting for this moment; a rectangular storage device rapidly transformed, extending a dark barrel. Drawing on years of shooting instinct, Nightmare aimed the helmet's gun barrel at Thunder Eye's forehead.
"What? You think that thing is useful against me?" Thunder Eye sneered.
"Laser bullet! Empty magazine! Empty magazine!" Nightmare continued to shout.
Bang! Bang! Bang… Each laser beam struck Thunder Eye's forehead.
Something fell in front of Thunder Eye; he looked down at the impact point—blue viscous liquid, which seemed to be his own blood.
However, Nightmare felt the cold tip of the knife pressing against her neck now.
Despairing, she closed her eyes.
Thunder Eye's exoskeleton was actually hardened skin that had been artificially upgraded; his family had long lived in a harsh land with high radiation exposure and constant danger. To survive, his ancestors evolved skin resembling lead plates. Later on, to gain Emperor Ban Sa's favor and fulfill a promise made by the emperor—to allow his family to leave the wilderness and live in beautiful flower fields—he underwent exoskeleton modification, achieving hardness capable of withstanding instantaneous heat blasts up to four thousand joules per kilogram.
This meant that even large-caliber shells filled with TNT detonating directly on Thunder Eye might not be effective. The only weapons capable of penetrating his exoskeleton among existing infantry weapons on Earth were laser weapons and railguns.
However, the helmet gun Nightmare was currently using emitted laser beams with energy reaching seven hundred joules. To penetrate Thunder Eye's exoskeleton… it was just a matter of time!
"Ugh!"
With her last ounce of strength, Nightmare struggled to lift Thunder Eye's descending blade slightly upward.
"Hmph, ridiculous…"
Before Thunder Eye could finish his sentence, both he and Nightmare heard a crisp explosion sound simultaneously. There was no pain; rather, Thunder Eye had become numb from the agony.
As the exoskeleton shattered, deep blue brain matter cascaded down onto Nightmare's face; she felt a significant reduction in pressure on her hands as the warmth of the brain matter jolted her awake from what felt like an impending slumber.
She opened her eyes and saw a large hole burned through the forehead of Thunder Eye, as if a hammer had smashed a lucky egg.
"No! It can't be..."
Thunder Eye's body trembled violently, and his consciousness completely severed. Then, like a yellow skeleton, he collapsed onto the Nightmare.
The Nightmare pushed his corpse away and let out a breath.
Xiu Sha and Thunder Eye were killed in succession, Shatterer fainted and was captured, while Stalker lay heavily injured in the battleship. Without their backbone, the Moon Internal Human forces became headless chickens, completely turning into fish on a chopping board.
Fierce Eagle and Divine Fist led the Heavy Infantry to charge into the remaining Internal Human troops, striking directly at their heart; Blue Face Hero smashed into the floating battleship above, and soon, accompanied by a massive explosion and mushroom cloud, he flew toward the moon in the night sky with a blue tail flame, watching as the shattered battleship fell and was buried with the ruins of the base; Nightmare, on General Jiang's invisible Hovercraft, cleared all heavy weapon operators on the ground before looking toward the increasingly visible skyline.
Fierce Eagle unlocked his head armor and landed on the charred ruins, gazing at the crimson dawn in the distance. Divine Fist walked up beside him and draped an arm over Fierce Eagle's shoulder.
"Hey... how does it feel after the first battle?" Divine Fist asked, tilting his head to look at him with a face smeared with blood and dirt.
"Tiring," Fierce Eagle shrugged and sighed deeply. "But I hope this is the last battle."
The roar of the Hovercraft caught their attention as Nightmare, carrying Fate Conqueror, wearily descended from the ladder. Blue Face Hero landed beside her, supporting her as they slowly walked to join Divine Fist and Fierce Eagle. The four stood side by side in silence, gazing at the boundary between orange-red and charred black.
In the end, this battle was undeniably a victory for humanity.
One week later
After tranquility returned, under the sunlight, this wasteland still shimmered, recounting everything that had happened that day while also celebrating the heroes' greatness.
The gunfire finally fell silent, the sky turned azure blue, and birds and flowers displayed their beauty solely for the glorious justifiers.
Temporary tents for soldiers dotted this wasteland in clusters like flowers blooming in a peaceful summer.
Inside General Jiang's tent, An Xiaotian, Liu Xuan, Qin Weishan, and Jiao An gathered around to review the documents provided by Mayor Wen.
"I’m really curious who else is like us," An Xiaotian said with an expectant smile.
"Well, let's take a look," Qin Weishan said as he patted An Xiaotian on the head.
However, Jiao An remained silent as always, quietly flipping to the first page.
Inside were only a few photos: a red-haired woman walking out of a breakfast shop filled with corpses; footage from valley cameras capturing three or four giants as tall as half a tree; and another photo showing an indigo glow over a graveyard where someone seemed to be standing in the distant woods.
"Comrades, I must tell you one truth... The war has actually just begun," Nars said while twisting his wrist.
"As Earth is just beginning to have interstellar communication capabilities, with Ban Sa's desire for conquest, he will definitely not let this rising star escape his grasp. Moreover, there are things he wants on Earth—simply put, they are creations of the universe."
Seeing the astonished expressions of others, Nars chose to continue revealing the truth.
"The urgent task now is to quickly form an alliance capable of countering his power. I don't know how many... you have no concept of Ban Sa; anyway... even if there is only a glimmer of hope, we must strive for it because this is our shared future in the Sun system."
Now let us turn to a new page and see other heroes' stories.
