Five o'clock in the morning. The swaying branches continuously cut through the streetlight's glow, flickering and dimming as the light danced across the window, casting shadows on the young man's face.
On the hospital bed at the military base, Liu Xuan, feeling groggy, pulled the blanket closer and turned his face away from the moonlight, hoping to roll over and continue sleeping.
"Hey!"
"Ugh!" Liu Xuan thought someone had sneaked in during the night. His eyes widened as he looked around the room, scanning every corner.
"Are you talking?" Liu Xuan asked Nars, still in disbelief.
"Yeah," Nars replied, deliberately raising his voice as if he were proud of it.
Liu Xuan let out a sigh of relief, relaxing his body back onto the bed. "It's not like... you’re not sleeping; I want to sleep! Can you keep it down at this hour?" Liu Xuan muttered to himself, clearly annoyed.
"Don't sleep!"
"Hiss—" Just as Liu Xuan closed his eyes, he jolted awake, clenching the blanket in frustration and slapping it against his legs. "What do you want?"
"I need to use your watch, hurry up!" Nars said firmly, making it clear that he was insistent.
Liu Xuan wanted to resist a bit longer, but Nars seemed to anticipate his excuses for laziness and quickly interjected, "Have you even thought about how long you've been sleeping? Ten days! If you keep lying there, our bodies will start to mold!"
"Fine, fine..." Liu Xuan reluctantly sat up, disconnecting various tubes attached to him.
After finally getting Liu Xuan to sit up after several days of lying flat, Nars immediately switched into serious mode; his left eye lit up as he opened the mechanical watch on his wrist.
"Hiss..."
"What’s wrong?" Liu Xuan asked in confusion as he looked at the complex array of characters and energy indicators that he couldn't comprehend.
"Go remind the people at the base," Nars commanded almost urgently. "The energy frequency on the monitoring system is extremely unstable; they are trying to use material replacement technology to mask the battleship's radiation intensity."
"Wha... what does that mean?" Liu Xuan stammered.
"It means that Xiu Sha and the others are ready."
After closing the mechanical watch, Nars opened the Space-time Arsenal and stood up to begin checking his equipment.
On this very day, General Jiang received a call from the City S government.
"Hello, Military Base in City S."
"Hello, may I speak with General Jiang?"
"Yes, that's me. What can I do for you?"
"Well... here's the thing."
The tone made General Jiang immediately put down the book he was holding.
"Yesterday, Mayor of City S received an order from higher-ups requesting that your base's second pilot come to the city government. We kindly ask for your approval, General."
General Jiang smiled slightly and leaned back in his chair, immediately sitting up straight. "I told you, you think I can't tell when you're holding back your voice?"
"Hahaha..." In the office, Mayor Wen of City S put down his teacup and smiled knowingly—after all, they were old acquaintances. Moreover, both had signed absolute confidentiality agreements with the state.
"Alright, tell me, why do you suddenly need my people?" General Jiang asked directly.
"Is there really a need for a reason?" Mayor Wen retorted.
"Of course, it's about the special forces squad. The higher-ups have been considering how to quickly absorb new team members for a long time now. It's time to clarify the objectives, understand?"
"Hehehe." General Jiang's gentle yet firm laughter always reassured Mayor Wen.
"Got it, Old Wen. I'll call him right away and ask him to bring someone else along. How does that sound?"
After receiving the news, An Xiaotian and Liu Xuan, who were ordered to head to the City S government office, set off immediately. Each of them was holding a box of takeout, playfully teasing each other in the back seat of the car, making it hard to associate them with the title of "super soldiers."
In fact, General Jiang felt very uneasy inside as he paced back and forth in his office. It wasn't that he was worried about any pressure Mayor Wen might impose on them; rather, he simply had a premonition—something bad was going to happen today.
"Gentlemen, we've arrived."
An Xiaotian and Liu Xuan got out of the car simultaneously and stood on the marble-paved surface, gazing at the massive City S administrative center behind the national flag in awe.
"Wow, is it really this big?" Liu Xuan said as he followed An Xiaotian. "Where are we supposed to find the Mayor..."
"Shh! You..." An Xiaotian quickly turned around and covered Liu Xuan's mouth, glancing around cautiously while whispering, "Do you think you can just see the Mayor whenever you want? Luckily there aren't many people around now; if someone hears us, we might be in trouble!"
At that moment, Liu Xuan, whose mouth was covered, stammered and pointed towards An Xiaotian's back.
"Good day, gentlemen. May I ask if you are here to meet Mayor Wen?"
The sound of tracks grinding against the ground suddenly stopped as a small robot dressed in light blue approached. Its hands were naturally crossed in front of its body. Upon seeing An Xiaotian turn around, the track-based welcoming robot slightly bowed and looked up with a smile at the two.
"I am Gentle, the intelligent steward specially sent by Mayor Wen to guide you. If you're ready, please allow me to show you the way."
"Phew." Liu Xuan glanced at the curious looks from both sides and weakly murmured to An Xiaotian, "See? Even if we don't want to stand out, we still do."
Inside the Mayor's Office, Mayor Wen sat upright at his desk, tapping his fingers while waiting.
"Gentlemen, you've arrived."
A soft mechanical female voice sounded from outside the door before a doorbell rang.
"Come in," Mayor Liang said as he adjusted his expression to appear even more serious. An Xiaotian and Liu Xuan peeked into the office before daring to step inside.
"Nice to meet you," Mayor Wen immediately stood up and walked over to shake hands with both of them.
It was Liu Xuan's first time attending such an occasion; his heart skipped a beat as he extended his hand while adjusting his fingers' angle.
"Do you know why I called you both here?"
After the three of them took their seats, Mayor Wen asked, "Well... I'm not sure." An Xiaotian replied honestly. The Mayor took out a stack of documents and a video tape from a safe under his desk and pushed them towards the two. "You are both informed parties, and since you are both from the special forces squad, I won't hide anything from you."
"Informed parties?" An Xiaotian suddenly understood; it turned out that Mayor Wen had also signed a confidentiality agreement, which explained why General Jiang was so at ease with their presence.
Seeing the two looking somewhat astonished, Mayor Wen continued, "A month and a half ago, the Viper organization was dismantled, and the whole country celebrated. However, those in the know understand that Viper was merely a pawn of the enemy behind the scenes. That so-called alien civilization was just conducting a preliminary test on the most powerful civilization on this planet using Viper."
"With the recent global signal being forcibly tampered with, more and more suspicion and fear have arisen. For us, there is no time to hesitate; we must take action."
"Indeed," An Xiaotian and Liu Xuan nodded in agreement, frowning.
"During various battles previously, our superiors recognized your outstanding abilities. Based on their explicit instructions, you need to find other superpowered individuals or those with exceptional skills. We want to establish an alliance based on the Superhero Alliance to prepare for any unforeseen circumstances!"
"There are other superpowered individuals!" The two were taken aback.
If it weren't for the arrival of the Moon People, they wouldn't have become superpowered individuals themselves; however, they always thought of themselves as either victims or lucky ones. Could there be others who faced setbacks? Or were there people who had been affected even earlier than them? It was entirely possible.
"That's right. This video tape contains records of several strange occurrences nationwide recently. The documents provide brief biographies of suspicious related individuals. Your task is to find them and confirm their identities to form a new alliance."
Inside the military base at 7 PM
As night fell, it was time for soldiers to go for their evening run. Qin Weishan and Jiao An were leisurely walking on the playground while watching the shouting training squad.
"Weishan, I need to tell you something," Jiao An said.
"Hmm? What is it? Have you fallen for some handsome guy?" Qin Weishan teased.
"Shut up!" Jiao An pushed away the grinning Qin Weishan.
"I recently received a task from the City D police; I have to leave within seven days." As she spoke, Jiao An raised her eyebrows at Qin Weishan. "Don't do what you did last time and spy on me with a camera."
"Pfft." Qin Weishan pretended to look disinterested. "You? What’s so special about you?"
"I..." Jiao An was immediately dissatisfied and puffed her cheeks. "When I was young, I was a beauty pageant contestant!" She then intentionally arched her waist and glared at Qin Weishan.
"Hey~ how many times have you bragged about that to me? Hmm?" Qin Weishan surprisingly softened her tone. "Dumb Qiao?"
"Huh? I'm older than you!" This nickname caught Jiao An off guard, causing her heart to buzz as she angrily punched Qin Weishan's shoulder.
"Haha... Dumb Qiao, do you think those Moon People will come back? It's been over ten days without any incidents. I think they are wary of us too," Qin Weishan said while holding back Jiao An's punch and changing the subject.
"Not necessarily." Jiao An lowered her hand. "They might already have some sort of scheme. Right now, they are in the dark while I am in the light. It's easy to dodge an open attack but hard to guard against hidden arrows. General Jiang's request for constant vigilance throughout the base is definitely correct. If they suddenly appear one day and catch us off guard, we won’t have any chance."
Qin Weishan nodded and asked, "Hey, Dumb Qiao, how's the smart helmet Dr. Chen made for you? Are you getting used to it?"
"Ugh!" Jiao An impatiently stomped her foot. That was the third time he called her "Dumb Qiao"!
"We're almost thirty; can we not be so annoying? With my skills, I doubt I'll even need that thing in real combat."
"Oh come on, you're so impressive, Dumb Qiao~ Haha."
"Foolish Qin!" Unable to hold back any longer, Jiao An's face flushed red as she kicked Qin Weishan hard in the waist. He merely exclaimed "Ouch!" and continued to laugh heartily.
However, a loud buzzing sound from above made all the soldiers on the training ground look up in surprise.
"What...?"
Jiao An squinted at the darkening sky, a wave of unease washing over her. In the northern sky above the base, the outline of a battleship gradually became visible, descending with a thunderous roar.
As expected, Nars's concerns had come true. Today was the day the Internal Humans were declaring war!
"How did they bypass Anti-stealth reconnaissance?" Jiao An found it hard to believe, but the fact was undeniable: an Intra-Material Warship was coming!
"Quick! Notify General Jiang! Get all ground-to-air defense artillery ready and put the base on combat alert, hurry!" Qin Weishan shouted as he sprinted towards the special weapons room, beckoning for Jiao An to follow.
Inside the main battleship:
"Master Xiu Sha, this is it."
"Ants."
Watching the soldiers of the human base scrambling to respond on the screen, Xiu Sha flicked his fingers through arcs of electricity with a disdainful sneer.
Then, Xiu Sha pressed seven authorization switches in succession. The steel doors on both sides of the battleship opened, and air rushed in around the eager soldiers waiting inside.
"I have to do this all at once," Xiu Sha said with a grin, shaking his head in apparent exasperation. "Eckton, activate the ship's distortion cannon and starship Laser Emitter! Let's give them... a warm welcome."
In the city:
Today was particularly unlucky for An Xiaotian and Liu Xuan. Thinking it was a rare outing, they had persuaded their designated driver to take them out for a meal. However, just after finishing and hitting the road, they found themselves stuck in traffic. Sitting in the car as darkness fell, they exchanged puzzled glances.
"Liu Xuan, do you hear that noise?" Nars, already anxious, caught a sound that was completely different from the usual city noises.
"Xiaotian." Liu Xuan turned to look at An Xiaotian, who was resting with his eyes half-closed. "I think I hear something too."
An Xiaotian opened his eyes and paused for a few seconds before sitting up straight. He rolled down the window and listened intently.
The honking of horns and rumbling sounds from traffic couldn't drown out distant explosions echoing from afar.
In an instant! An Xiaotian's expression changed dramatically as he recalled Nars's warning from days ago.
"I need to put on my armor." An Xiaotian quickly unlocked the back seat and climbed into the trunk of their oversized SUV. Just in case, he always brought his armor whenever possible.
Liu Xuan also wanted to set off, but unfortunately, his Thruster had been destroyed by Gad. Helpless, he could only remind An Xiaotian to be careful and watched anxiously as An Xiaotian put on his armor and prepared to take off.
"I knew something would go wrong," Nars thought anxiously, sighing repeatedly in Liu Xuan's mind.
With a loud roar! A few minutes later, the trunk of the off-road vehicle unlocked, and to everyone's astonishment on the road, a red and white armored figure actually soared out of the trunk, flying like a cruise missile towards the distant flames, curving rapidly!
"Please don't let anything happen," An Xiaotian prayed, but the closer he got, the clearer he saw that the base had been reduced to ruins and a sea of fire.
On the ground, his own allies were facing off against the internal Human army across the charred remnants of walls. The vanguard Shatterer stepped out from the Internal Troops, its massive form shielding against a hail of bullets, enduring gunfire and artillery as it rampaged through the human formation!
Seeing Shatterer leading the charge, the Internal Troops suddenly found the courage to rush out from their cover, following him into battle! The human soldiers began to panic; from above, it was clear that the Internal Troops were gradually forming an encirclement, and the situation was dire!
"This guy?" Remembering how close he had come to being crushed by Shatterer that day, Blue Face Hero was somewhat surprised—he truly turned the tide of the entire situation by himself.
"We have to take him down first!" Fierce Eagle had a clear target and flew directly towards Shatterer, unlocking box-type rockets while diving down to unleash them on the enemy troops in his path!
In an instant, flames shot up four meters high, lighting up the sky with fire and chaos!
Aside from its firepower advantage, Fierce Eagle's most notable ability was its timely support. This dive-bombing carpet strike instantly scattered the formation of Internal Troops. Seeing such powerful fire support from humans, they raised their guns to shoot at Fierce Eagle or simply took cover!
The result was that only Shatterer remained fighting on the front lines. Fierce Eagle's bombardment effectively pulled Shatterer and the soldiers behind him away!
Shatterer was completely unaware of the severity of the situation; when it swung a heavy fist downwards, it was firmly caught by Divine Fist!
As they fought fiercely, Fierce Eagle locked onto Shatterer with a laser beam directed at its back armor while dozens of "Heavenly Maiden" tracking missiles flew out from Fierce Eagle's armor, accurately striking Shatterer!
"Ah!"
In an instant, amidst the flames, fragments of Shatterer's armor scattered like rain!
After taking such a barrage from Fierce Eagle, how could Shatterer endure? Roaring in anger, it suddenly turned around and slapped down hard with one hand, knocking Fierce Eagle to the ground and creating a pit where he landed!
Taking advantage of Shatterer's distraction with Fierce Eagle, Divine Fist charged forward in a leap. The rapidly flashing gauntlet charged up fully as he shouted—
"Ugh!"
"Bang!"
A sound of bones cracking came from Shatterer's cheek! This two-meter-tall giant was sent flying five meters away by Divine Fist's explosive strength, dazed and collapsing to the ground!
Seeing that Shatterer was temporarily incapacitated, Divine Fist hurried over to help Fierce Eagle stand up.
"Hmm..." After all, being a first-tier warrior, it didn't take long for Shatterer to rise again, touching its cheekbone that had been broken by Divine Fist and g Luo Lin softly.
Despite enduring so many high-explosive blasts, Shatterer's armor was still barely functioning with its connection arcs; aside from some areas being blasted into craters, most parts just looked a bit dusty!
This defensive capability made both Fierce Eagle and Divine Fist feel a headache.
"Nars, how do we deal with that Big Guy?" An Xiaotian connected to the channel and asked Liu Xuan through the communicator.
"Big Guy?"
Knowing that a fierce battle had already begun, Nars immediately switched to his main persona and offered advice to both.
"All metals conduct electricity; you know that? If I remember correctly, Gad's armor has an insulating layer for protection inside. However, there is one area where very little insulation is installed for flexibility—that's his waist! If we can get an electric current through the metal into his body, we can directly paralyze him from there!"
"Ah!" Fierce Eagle suddenly realized and signaled Divine Fist with a glance.
After exchanging looks, Fierce Eagle immediately took off and landed behind Gad, approaching Shatterer from both sides!
"Flashy!" Shatterer didn't take these two seriously at all. As a first-tier leading warrior, which super civilization's general had ever truly defeated him? Let alone Earth.
Just as he was contemplating whom to take down first, Divine Fist unexpectedly extended a hook from his gauntlet, catching the gap in Shatterer's armor!
Drawing attention, Fierce Eagle behind Shatterer decisively launched two suction bomb devices that adhered to Shatterer's waist!
Suddenly, Shatterer found himself in a confusing situation—what was going on? But when he looked down at his waist, he began to sense something was off.
Just like before, Divine Fist leaped again, swinging the rope over Shatterer's head! Seizing the opportunity, Fierce Eagle spread his wings and took off, dodging Shatterer's outstretched hand while suddenly igniting his Thruster, diving towards the ground!
The immense brute force of Divine Fist, combined with the explosive launch of Fierce Eagle, instantly brought Shatterer crashing to the ground!
And just then! The bombs detonated; although they didn't blow him to pieces, they created a gaping hole in his waist, obliterating the insulating material!
"Xiaotian, hurry!" Divine Fist desperately held onto the rope, trying to prevent Shatterer from getting up. Fierce Eagle immediately flew up close to Shatterer and disabled all protective measures on his energy core. In an instant of intense heat, he summoned Variant Current in his palm and struck it against Shatterer's armor.
"Ah—"
It worked! Shatterer convulsed all over as he was stimulated by the Variant Current within Fierce Eagle for a full minute before finally tilting his head and passing out.
At that moment, Liu Xuan's vehicle had just arrived beside the base, and he was stunned. He quickly got out and rushed into the ruins.
"It seems we're behind Internal Troops," Nars observed.
"That's even better," Liu Xuan said to Nars. "Are you ready for an ambush?"
However, just as half of his deep blue scales were covered, their vehicle was suddenly struck by an electric current, exploding into flames. The shockwave nearly knocked Liu Xuan and Nars off their feet!
"I was wondering where you ran off to; turns out you were planning an ambush."
Xiu Sha floated in the air, his cloak billowing in the wind.
"Hmph."
Seeing his long-time rival again changed Nars's expression; he immediately summoned Tianchuang Gloves.
"Isn't it just running into you? How can it be called an ambush?"
In an instant, the two seemed to return to the battlefield where they first met years ago on the Moon—there, blood and flesh flew everywhere amidst blazing flames.
