After several days of effort, Xiaomei gradually connected with more laid-off employees. Some were initially indifferent, but upon seeing the preliminary evidence Xiaomei had gathered, their attitudes softened, and they were willing to join her cause.
However, things were not that simple. One evening, Xiaomei received a message from Zhang Xiaohu, his tone tinged with anxiety: “Master, I’ve found out something. It seems the company has noticed someone is investigating their internal documents. They might take measures to stop us.”
“What do you mean? Are they planning to cover it up?” Xiaomei immediately became alert.
“Pretty much,” Zhang Xiaohu took a deep breath. “A friend of mine in the finance department said the company has recently restricted access to many key documents, fearing that outsiders would discover they’ve manipulated the compensation issues.”
Xiaomei frowned. “They reacted so quickly?”
“They must have been on guard,” Zhang Xiaohu explained. “But we’re not entirely without opportunities; there are still some traces left in the finance department. My friend said if we can find more documents from other laid-off employees, we might make a breakthrough.”
Xiaomei fell silent for a moment, realizing that this battle was far more challenging than she had imagined.
She was not someone who easily gave up, but this struggle against the company made her feel an invisible pressure. She knew the company had a vast legal team and resources, while she was just an ordinary programmer who had been laid off. No matter how clever she was, facing such an opponent left her feeling overwhelmed.
“We cannot back down,” Xiaomei lifted her head, her gaze resolute.
This time, she would not let the company escape responsibility easily. She had come this far; no matter how difficult it became, she would see it through to the end.
Time flew by, and the autumn wind had turned bitterly cold. At that moment, Xiaomei sat in her small apartment, her desk piled high with documents and chat records, all concerning compensation issues laid out before her. It felt like an invisible war, and she was the main force in this battle.
Zhang Xiaohu sent her a new message: “Master, I just received news that my friend in finance got hold of some internal documents from the company. It clearly states that the compensation standard should be N+2; it seems they intentionally lowered the compensation.”
"I knew it!" Xiaomei quickly opened the file, her eyes scanning the computer screen rapidly. The document was an internal financial record of the company, detailing the distribution of severance compensation. Sure enough, every clause clearly stated that the compensation standard was N+2, while she and the other laid-off employees had only received N+1. This document became a sword in her hand, finally giving her the confidence to confront the company head-on.
"This is the key evidence." Xiaomei felt a wave of relief wash over her; she had finally grasped a legal foothold against the company's wrongdoing. She picked up her phone and dialed Zhang Xiaohu's number. "With this, we have a chance to win."
Zhang Xiaohu's voice was excited on the other end of the line. "That's great, Master! What's our next step? Should we go for labor arbitration?"
"Not so fast," Xiaomei pondered for a moment. "Direct arbitration takes too long; the company can easily drag it out without resolution. We need to force them to address this issue proactively."
She understood that while this document might be sufficient on its own, true victory would require a more cunning strategy. Against a large corporation, Xiaomei knew she couldn't rely solely on a piece of paper to win a lawsuit. She needed to harness the power of public opinion in this struggle.
The next day, Xiaomei reached out to several of her laid-off colleagues, explaining in detail the evidence she held and the company's illegal actions. Although many were initially hesitant, their attitudes shifted significantly upon seeing the internal document.
"We can't just let this go," Li Li, the first colleague to support Xiaomei, said angrily. "The company should be compensating us N+2, and now they dare to exploit us! If we don't stand up, they'll keep doing this!"
"Exactly!" others chimed in agreement. "We must unite and demand an explanation from the company."
