The dental waiting room was as crowded as last time. Jiang Li sensed that Gu Nanfeng was angry and tried to lighten the mood. She cleared her throat and said casually, "Business is so good; it must be quite profitable, right?" Gu Nanfeng was nearly provoked to laugh by her comment, but he maintained a stern expression and coldly replied, "Come here!" With no choice, Jiang Li resigned herself to sitting in that familiar yet strange treatment chair. 0

Before Gu Nanfeng could ask anything, Jiang Li preemptively said, "I still haven't gotten my period this time." As Gu Nanfeng was putting on his mask, he couldn't help but let the corners of his mouth lift slightly at her words. Jiang Li couldn't see his smile and could only focus on his eyes. She noticed that Gu Nanfeng had long, distinct eyelashes—forty-three on the left and forty-seven on the right. There was a tiny mole under his right eyelid, and when he blinked, his upper lashes brushed against it. 0

"What are you looking at?" Gu Nanfeng suddenly asked. His hand was still in Jiang Li's mouth, and she wanted to respond but couldn't say a word, awkwardly shifting her gaze away. Gu Nanfeng chuckled softly and said, "I know you're looking at me; don't move!" Alarmed, Jiang Li almost protested but nearly forgot about the dental drill in her mouth. Fortunately, Gu Nanfeng reacted quickly and pressed the off switch just in time. 0

Once Jiang Li calmed down, Gu Nanfeng turned the drill back on and changed the subject. "You can't be careless this time. Come back next week, and I'll fill that cavity for you. After that..." He paused, his tone becoming somewhat complicated. "If you don't want to see me, then don’t." Jiang Li felt a sharp pain in her heart and instinctively clenched her fists tightly. She wanted to see him—she really did—but at that moment, it felt like her mouth was sealed shut; she couldn't utter a single word. 0

Gu Nanfeng picked up a small water spray to rinse Jiang Li's teeth. For some reason, tears suddenly welled up in her eyes. Thankfully, Gu Nanfeng was focused on her teeth and didn't notice her distress. He spent a long time writing up the case notes; perhaps because of the wait, the patients behind them grew impatient and gently pushed open the glass door to peek inside. Gu Nanfeng looked up and signaled for them to wait outside. 0

Just as the glass door was closing, Gu Nanfeng suddenly asked, "Why did you move five years ago?" Jiang Li was taken aback by his unexpected question and froze in place. After a long pause, she finally moved her lips slightly and tried to respond calmly, "It was just for school convenience." Gu Nanfeng closed the case file decisively and said, "You're lying." 0

Jiang Li's heart jolted; he was right—she had lied. But how could she bare her heart completely to him? Why should he be angry? He had chosen silence back then; her decision to leave was merely an attempt to preserve her last shred of dignity. 0

Outside the glass door, several people were already peering in. Not wanting to delay Gu Nanfeng's work any longer, Jiang Li turned to leave. However, Gu Nanfeng opened the door first and said, "Wait for me in the waiting room; I still need to talk to you about something. Don't leave! If you dare walk out, I'll pull your tooth next time." 0

Jiang Li didn't leave—not because she feared him pulling her tooth but because a glimmer of hope lingered in her heart. Just like that decayed tooth, perhaps if she waited a little longer, everything would turn out fine… 0
