"Are you... uh... the Monkey King?"
After running for more than ten miles, Wild Monkey finally called Yue Keyan to stop, resting under an old tree.
Yue Keyan rubbed her sore feet and cautiously asked, her eyes filled with confusion.
"Monkey King?" Wild Monkey laughed at the title, doubling over with amusement. "Only fox spirits like to be called that. I don't."
"Then... you must be a monkey demon?" A wave of distress washed over Yue Keyan. What should she do? She had quite a few grievances with this monkey demon; ever since their first meeting, their interactions had not been pleasant.
She couldn't understand why this monkey demon suddenly changed its demeanor and even saved her life.
Wild Monkey remained silent, merely letting out a dismissive hum. "So, you just realized I'm a monkey demon?"
Before Yue Keyan could respond, it suddenly leaped beside her, moving as swiftly as lightning.
With a swift motion, its front paw hooked securely around her slender neck, its eyes filled with vigilance and scrutiny. "Tell me, what is your purpose in approaching me? Who sent you? Someone from the Demon Realm, or that bunch of stubborn old fools from the Tianshan Sect?"
What was going on now? Yue Keyan was completely paralyzed with fear, her legs trembling and barely able to support her weight.
What sins had her ancestors committed to deserve such relentless terror?
The seemingly honest Zhang Kui'an turned out to be a trickster, and now the monkey demon that had just saved her life was suddenly trying to kill her. Truly, it was a year of misfortune.

Before Yue Keyan could finish her sentence, a loud crash echoed through the air, shaking the ground and causing a painful ringing in their ears. She nervously grabbed Wild Monkey's arm, her palm slick with cold sweat. "What... what is happening?"
"Damn it, they've found us!" Wild Monkey glared at Yue Keyan in frustration, his eyes blazing with anger. If it weren't for him using magic to save her, the demons would never have been able to track his whereabouts.
He had endured humiliation and compromised himself by staying close to Zhang Kui'an all this time, and now he was exposing his location for some inexplicable woman. It was utterly absurd.
Was it really because this foolish woman had been searching for him tirelessly? — He couldn't quite explain it himself; it felt as if someone was whispering in his ear: Lan Xibai, you must save her, or you will regret it.
"Who are they? Is it Zhang Kui'an's group?" But that didn't make sense. Yue Keyan shook her head; such a large commotion couldn't possibly be caused by Zhang Kui'an's people.
Wild Monkey remained silent, his expression hesitant as he scrutinized Yue Keyan closely, as if trying to see through her. Finally, he released his grip on her throat and instead placed his hands on her chest. "Quickly, take me with you to escape."
Throughout her life, Yue Keyan had been chased and beaten many times for stealing, lying, or snatching buns. But never had she experienced anything as thrilling as this moment.
The entire mountain seemed on the verge of splitting apart; trees swayed violently, rocks flew everywhere, as if the end of the world had come.
She clutched the Wild Monkey tightly as she stumbled along the rugged forest path, her steps frantic and hurried.
Suddenly, the ground beneath her shook violently, and she could no longer maintain her balance. Just as she reached out to steady herself against an old pine tree nearby, she felt her feet slip. In an instant, she and the Wild Monkey tumbled backward.
Behind her, the once winding mountain road cracked open with a gap over three feet wide. With nothing left to obstruct their fall, she and the Wild Monkey embraced each other as they plunged into the deep trench below.
