Fort Master Guan had no time to waste on words and shouted, "Brothers, charge!"
Seeing that they wouldn’t listen to reason, Shen Yuli had no choice but to unleash the Samadhi True Fire. As he began the incantation, the group of burly men froze in their tracks, fear evident on their faces.
Fort Master Guan was taken aback. " Luo Yan sect? I never expected the peaceful Luo Yan sect to collude with the evil sect Demon Star. Don’t blame us for being rude—charge!"
As the men prepared to rush forward again, Shen Yuli felt a mix of anger and helplessness. "Why are you still fighting?"
He didn’t want to engage them in battle, nor did he want Zhao Xin to be taken away. In a moment of desperation, he scooped up Zhao Xin and leaped away, finding a horse to gallop off on.
Zhao Xin, who had resigned herself to her fate, felt confused after escaping Fort Master Guan ’s clutches.
Behind her was Shen Yuli ’s solid chest, and the jolting motion caused her to bump against him. She squirmed slightly, but Shen Yuli tightened his embrace around her and softly reminded her, "Hold on tight; be careful not to fall."
Zhao Xin had faced many dangers in her adventures, but none felt as daunting as this moment.
The uncontrollable panic made her tremble slightly. Shen Yuli noticed her discomfort and gradually slowed down, asking with concern, "What’s wrong? Are you feeling cold?" He tightened his hold a little more.
Zhao Xin was almost beside herself. Goodness! Did this man truly not understand anything or was he deliberately teasing her?!
The next morning, Shen Yuli discovered that Zhao Xin had left a note saying she was going to meet him at the inn in town without specifying what she would be doing.
Zhao Xin returned two days later, weary from her journey. She arrived at the inn feeling parched and plopped down in a chair, grabbing the teapot to pour herself some water.
Shen Yuli was not smiling as she usually did; her face bore no expression. After she had enough to drink, she asked in a low voice, "Where have you been?"
Zhao Xin bit the rim of her cup, the delicate white porcelain contrasting beautifully with her crimson lips, creating a captivating image.
She set down the cup, smiled slightly, and said nonchalantly, "What, did you miss me?" Zhao Xin's gaze shifted mysteriously as she added, "I took care of something important."
"Is that so?" Shen Yuli stared at her in a daze and pondered aloud, "Did you know that all three hundred people in the Guan Family Fortress died from poisoning overnight, and the martial arts manual 'Shen Ying Sword Technique' has vanished?"
"Is that so?" Zhao Xin paused for a moment, then avoided his gaze and chuckled softly, "They had it coming."
"You..." The words rushed out but were swallowed back. Shen Yuli pressed his lips into a thin line, his fists tightening as he whispered painfully, "How could you be so cruel? We escaped unscathed, and while stealing the manual is one thing, why did so many have to die?"
His voice trembled; it sounded less like an accusation and more like deep remorse.
Zhao Xin slammed her cup onto the table with a loud bang and sneered, " Shen Yuli, do you think I did it?"
The eyes that had once sparkled with joy now clouded over. Zhao Xin fought back tears fiercely, opening her mouth but unable to say anything.
With a cold snort, she raised her chin arrogantly and laughed lightly, "It was me. So what?" With that, she pulled out a small box from her pocket and tossed it at Shen Yuli before turning and running away.
Shen Yuli stood there in bewilderment as he watched her leave until she vanished from sight.
