As the days passed, Emerald Flower waited eagerly, finally reaching the day when the elixirs were completed.
Looking at the nine golden pills, she could hardly resist the urge to swallow one immediately.
However, Green-Robed Taoist informed her that taking the pills had its rules: The First Day would take one pill, Second Day would take two... and the final ninth pill could only be consumed on the fifteenth day, when the moon was fullest.
"How troublesome!" Emerald Flower muttered under her breath.
After much anticipation, she finally counted to Third Day and couldn't wait to swallow the third pill.
She thought to herself that she was at least half a celestial being now; although she couldn't turn stone into gold, lifting a few small stones should be within her grasp.
She walked into the courtyard, steadied herself, held her breath, and rooted her stance. Then she extended her finger and pointed at a small stone, shouting loudly, "Rise!"
To her delight, the small stone obediently floated into the air.
"Fool." At that moment, Emerald Flower heard a familiar voice.
She immediately abandoned her spell, a radiant smile blossoming on her face as she rushed toward the sound.
"Qing Huai, look at me! I can lift small stones now. It won't be long before I become an immortal!"
Like a spoiled little girl, she nestled into Leng Qinghuai's embrace, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist.
Leng Qinghuai smiled helplessly, fully aware that there was no such thing as celestial magic; it was merely him secretly casting a spell. Otherwise, with her cultivation level, she would likely spend her entire life staring blankly at that small stone.
“Why do you want to become an immortal, Your Majesty?” Leng Qinghuai asked softly.
Emerald Flower blinked her eyes and pointed her tiny finger at him, saying earnestly, “Because I want to ascend to immortality together with you.”
Upon hearing this, Leng Qinghuai felt an urge to mock her as he usually did, to laugh at her naivety and call her a foolish ruler.
But at that moment, his heart was in turmoil, filled with memories from the past decade. Those recollections surged like a tide, making his heart ache intensely.
He could only clench his teeth tightly, forcing himself not to look at Emerald Flower or consider how much she truly cared for him.
“What about Dongliang Kingdom? What about your subjects? Can you abandon them?” he asked again.
Emerald Flower sighed softly, her small hand gently climbing up to his chest. “Qing Huai, don’t you know? You can’t have both fish and bear’s paw. Compared to the kingdom, I can’t bear to part with you more. I can’t imagine how lonely I would be without you.”
With that faint sigh, an unknown wind swept into Leng Qinghuai’s heart, stirring up a whirlwind of emotions that left him unable to find peace.
The person in his arms pressed against his clothing, lightly tapping his chest with her fingers while murmuring, “Celestial magic, celestial magic, I want Qing Huai to love only me for a lifetime. Is that possible...?”
Finally, he smiled, a warmth radiating from him like polished jade.
“Such an unreasonable demand is something even immortals cannot fulfill.”
Emerald Flower listened, her face falling as she looked up at Leng Qinghuai, disappointment etched across her features. "I don't want it for a lifetime, just a little moment—can't I have even that?"
Leng Qinghuai gazed at the rosy hue that spread across Emerald Flower's cheeks. She looked both adorable and gentle, stirring something within him. Without thinking, he leaned down and pressed a kiss on her cheek.
Perhaps... it was possible.
