Chapter 309: Bone Peak
The ancient artifact, emanating a faint energy, resembled two joyful fish swimming in a circular dance around each other.
They radiated different hues; one appeared resplendent like a phoenix engulfed in flames, while the other shimmered with a snowy brilliance, moving gracefully as if draped in silver.
As they watched this peculiar ancient artifact move like a living creature, glimmering like a pearl in the night, it was astonishing that no one had managed to seize it.
"The power emanating from it is quite enticing," Sebella said, closing her eyes and inhaling deeply as if entranced. "Shall we take a closer look? We might stumble upon something unexpected."
With that, she revealed a cryptic smile, leaving one to wonder whether it was anticipation or something else entirely.
Lu Fei Fan furrowed his brow, feeling that this girl was not as simple as she seemed. Especially when she smiled, she resembled a devil.
"Don't worry; I just sensed that the energy fluctuations earlier seemed to resonate with you," Sebella said earnestly, gazing at Lu Fei Fan. She had to admit that during their brief interaction, she had been unable to discern his true strength.
He appeared to be at the level of a Top War General, yet his displayed power was on par with that of a near demigod. If he were to advance to the level of a demigod, his strength would likely surpass that of an average demigod.
Sebella was inherently sensitive to power and had an innate ability to perceive the upper limits of an individual's strength.
Lu Fei Fan was slightly surprised; he indeed felt as if the glowing object was calling out to him from some unseen realm.
"Let's go," Sebella said boldly, striding forward without any concern for potential traps or mechanisms ahead.
The two approached the stairs at the base of the towering structure. The winding stairs were grand and disproportionate to human strides, appearing as though they were laid out with rough-hewn stones. The uneven steps were covered in dust, and their footsteps echoed throughout the circular hall as they climbed.
The two of them reached the top of the tower, and as they got closer, they could clearly see what the red and white lights were that danced around each other.
They were two circular blades!
Their designs were peculiar; the white one resembled a long dragon covered in thorns and scales. It appeared to be about a foot in diameter, with its outer edge gleaming with a sharp, cold light.
The red blade was equally striking, shaped like a fiery phoenix soaring with its Feathered Wings spread wide. The edges of its wings curved elegantly, forming a sharp blade at the tail.
"Dragon soaring, phoenix flying," Lu Fei Fan couldn't help but exclaim in admiration.
"Ah." Sebella, however, seemed uninterested in the two flying blades. Instead, her attention was drawn to the tall figure seated in a high-backed chair, clad in White Skeleton armor. It seemed she had noticed something.
Lu Fei Fan turned to see her reaching out toward the skeleton.
"Wait," he blurted out, but it was too late.
Suddenly, a powerful force surged from the center, and a whirlwind swept up dust around them.
The howling wind sliced through the air like a blade. In an instant, Lu Fei Fan found himself on a snowy mountain peak, surrounded by white-capped valleys. Blinding snow swirled from the chaotic space around him.
"Who dares to intrude upon my domain?" A cold voice echoed, and the howling winds paused momentarily at its sound.
Lu Fei Fan drew his Whale Devouring Sword and stepped forward. Before him lay an expansive mountaintop shrouded in thick mist. As he approached, he discovered two rows of inverted objects emerging from the fog—massive beast carcasses frozen in ice!
And those towering structures? Were they the ribs of giant beasts?
Lu Fei Fan was uncertain, but he felt as if his ribs formed a grand hall, at the end of which sat a shadowy figure.
"Is it you?" The voice echoed through the snow and mist.
Lu Fei Fan walked up to Bone Peak and stopped. He could see clearly now; seated within the Skeleton Beast's frame was a tall man in a white robe, sitting on an imposing ice-carved throne.
It seemed that the man understood Lu Fei Fan would not advance further, as he waved his hand from the back of the ice chair.
In an instant, a massive invisible force field enveloped the two of them, dispersing the frost and mist, allowing Lu Fei Fan to see the man before him.
The man was ethereal in appearance, with a handsome face. His fair complexion and exquisitely sculpted features were so perfect that he could easily be mistaken for a woman—if not for his earlier words that had reminded Lu Fei Fan he was indeed a man.
"Who are you?" Lu Fei Fan asked warily, keeping his gaze fixed on him.
The handsome man in the white robe remained indifferent, his expression as cold as the air around them. He supported his chin with one hand, seemingly intrigued by Lu Fei Fan.
"Intruder, die." The White Man raised his hand indifferently. Suddenly, Lu Fei Fan sprang into action as the ground erupted violently beneath him, sharp ice spikes bursting forth from below.
But Lu Fei Fan's Whale Devouring Sword unleashed a sharp blade that descended like a raging dragon!
"Hmm?" The man seemed to sense something and abruptly stood up, raising his hand!
Clang!
His hand transformed into a scaled beast's claw!
Lu Fei Fan was shocked to find that the beast claw conjured by his opponent easily grasped his Whale Devouring Sword!
Moreover, the Pulse Energy of the Whale Devouring Sword was completely extinguished!
The Whale Devouring Sword trembled slightly in his grip before it was suddenly snatched away by the White-Robed Man. With a flick of his wrist, the sword shot off like a living fish, racing around the peak of the snow-capped mountain before finally stopping right in front of him, aimed directly at Lu Fei Fan!
"How could this be!" Lu Fei Fan found it hard to believe that his Whale Devouring Sword had been controlled by the opponent's Pulse Energy!
At that moment, the White-Robed Man took a step forward. Just one step unleashed an overwhelming chill, causing the surrounding buildings and even the air to crackle with freezing sounds.
Lu Fei Fan stepped back, but countless icicles appeared in the air, swiftly forming around him, all aimed directly at him. The ice beneath his feet began to freeze solid, rendering him immobile. To make matters worse, his Whale's Breath seemed utterly ineffective.
Lu Fei Fan dared not move for the time being, knowing that his opponent could kill him with ease, yet he did not strike immediately.
"Let me take a look," the White-Robed Man said as he approached Lu Fei Fan, raising his hand and lightly poking Lu Fei Fan's forehead with his icy fingertips.
Countless memories surged forth like a tidal wave, flowing into the White-Robed Man's finger. His eyes turned into a chaotic white as he witnessed numerous memories of Lu Fei Fan—everything from when he encountered the Metal Ball to where he obtained Fu Mai Xi Shu, even his experiences with Shui Que in the desert. All of it unfolded before him like a rapid slideshow.
"Hmm?"
As he flipped through these memories, he suddenly halted at one particular scene.
It was when Lu Fei Fan had seen the spirit of a woman in a tomb excavated by Indigenous Crazy Horse.
She appeared like a hologram as Lu Fei Fan replayed that moment again, especially the final verse of poetry that echoed once more.
“Snow Covers Flower Mountain's Dangerous Tower,” the vision of snow scattered across the Yao River appeared. In dreams every night, I see the Monarch, a white-robed figure exuding a murderous aura, yet each time he comes, I see only the wind and snow, not his attire. Life may bring him back one day, but until then, my lord will return in another life to recognize me.
The White-Robed Man withdrew his finger, as if losing interest in an instant. Lu Fei Fan could clearly sense a shift in the other’s emotions.
When Lu Fei Fan regained consciousness, he found himself back in his seat. The White-Robed Man looked at him, seemingly unaffected by the earlier emotional turbulence.
“It seems she led you to me,” he said.
Lu Fei Fan did not respond; he was unsure who this “he” referred to, but it had undoubtedly lifted all restraints from him. The icy layers that had frozen half of his body and the ice spikes aimed at him had dissipated.
“Never mind, if it’s you, then so be it,” he said with a hint of resignation.
Suddenly, a void reached out and pulled Lu Fei Fan toward it. The claw that materialized pierced through Lu Fei Fan's body effortlessly. He stared in shock as the claw penetrated him, instinctively wanting to struggle.
“Stop resisting; this is my spiritual domain, and you cannot fight back,” the White-Robed Man said coldly, one hand passing through Lu Fei Fan while the other supported his chin calmly.
“You!” Lu Fei Fan refused to give up, twisting his body, but that hand seemed to absorb him like darkness.
“Are you sure you want to defy fate?” The long-haired man in white suddenly raised his head and frowned. “The Whale Devouring Sword you hold is mine; Whale's Breath also belongs to me. The woman whose soul you saw in the tomb is my woman. Your fate is destined to be intertwined with mine…”
“What?!” Lu Fei Fan was taken aback. The Whale Devouring Sword and Whale's Breath were his? Could it be that he was…
“The Three Kings’ expedition is nothing more than this.” As he finished speaking, the White-Robed Man’s arm trembled violently, an endless stream of Pulse Energy surged from his body into Lu Fei Fan.
Lu Fei Fan felt an overwhelming power flooding into him; he simply could not comprehend why this man would choose to pass on such strength.
Yet they seemed to be deliberately sealed within the body of Lu Fei Fan. Once he had input everything, he withdrew from Lu Fei Fan's body. As his hand pulled back, he sat in the chair, still calm and indifferent, as if nothing concerned him.
"Since fate has chosen you, then I will give you everything I have, including the Thorned Flying Wheel outside." As he finished speaking, the Surrounding Mountain Peaks began to rumble and collapse, and his beast-like Claw started to fall away and dissipate.
"Snow Covers Flower Mountain's Dangerous Tower, gazing at the snow in several places along the Yao River. In dreams every night, I see the Monarch, with a white robe and a murderous aura across the battlefield. Several times I have come as the Monarch, yet I see only wind and snow without a trace of clothing. Life may bring me back again without a set date; when you return, we shall meet once more." He rested his chin on his hand, appearing somewhat sorrowful. "Yao, I can’t believe I made you wait so long. At last, I can leave this place to see you."
With that, his body slowly faded from the chair, and everything around began to disintegrate. Lu Fei Fan soon plummeted into an abyss.
Suddenly awake.
Lu Fei Fan stood before the chair; the skeleton before him had long lost its eyeballs, its eye sockets staring blankly at him.
"So he is Bai Di, the White King!" Sebella said beside him.
At that moment, there was a loud rumble.
The ceiling of the grand hall was broken through as a mass of black beast-like creatures crawled out, standing on the rocks and glaring hungrily at Lu Fei Fan and Sebella.
Boom!
Other places also saw similar monstrous creatures with rotating spikes emerge; they were all avatars of Wei Chong Yi Shou. However, Lu Fei Fan noticed that their power had been enhanced.
Roar!
They surged forward simultaneously toward Lu Fei Fan.
“It’s bad, they’re coming!” Sebella’s face changed dramatically.
Lu Fei Fan remained calm, sheathing the Whale Devouring Sword and gesturing towards the two spinning discs of ice and fire in midair.
Whoosh.
They suddenly shot out, breaking free from the orbit around Lu Fei Fan and Sebella.
Sebella was left dumbfounded in shock.
But what Lu Fei Fan did next left her with her mouth agape, utterly astonished beyond measure.
