Lu Fei Fan noticed that the underground structure beneath the tower spiraled outward, with numerous passages branching off as one descended deeper, winding and twisting in all directions.
Moreover, this labyrinthine construction was tall and spacious; it was unclear who had excavated it.
Just as Lu Fei Fan turned into a wide avenue, a loud explosion echoed ahead.
The sound of a blast reverberated through the thick smoke, and he could hear the explosion in the distance.
Lu Fei Fan quietly approached the front and discovered a group of over ten people gathered at the passageway. They were likely the same individuals who had been outside the tower.
“Captain, this stone door has been blown up three times already, but it seems it won’t budge!” someone called out from within the haze.
“Hmph, double the charge! I refuse to believe we can’t break it down,” commanded the Mercenary Leader at the forefront.
“Understood.” The subordinates did not argue further; they quickly prepared to double the amount of Energy Bombs. One by one, they pulled out blocks of Energy Bombs from their bags and stacked them in front of the wide stone door. The door stood four to five meters tall and appeared to be made of stone, but Lu Fei Fan could clearly sense a faint surge of Chaos Pulse Energy emanating from it.
A cold smile crept across Lu Fei Fan’s face; it was evident that Energy Bombs would not be able to breach this door.
Boom!
Another deafening explosion shook the cavern, causing it to tremble as if it were about to collapse. However, it soon settled down. In front of the towering stone door, there was only a small crater left behind; the door remained firmly shut.
Seeing that the door had not budged an inch, the Captain seemed to be growing increasingly frustrated. He grabbed the collar of the person responsible for the demolition and roared, “Didn’t I tell you to double it?”
The individual looked extremely aggrieved and replied, “I… I really did double it! It’s nearly three times more than before.”
“Give me more explosives,” he said, pushing aside the subordinate with evident anger, feeling as if he had been humiliated by a door. “I want all the hand grenades and explosives thrown in. I refuse to believe this won't work.”
“Yes, sir.” The subordinate dared not argue and went to carry out the order.
Before long, dozens of mercenaries piled hand grenades and explosives at the door. The quantity was indeed enough to topple a sturdy fortress. The Captain saw this and clearly felt that victory was within reach.
Everyone retreated to the sides of the doorway, and then a loud explosion echoed.
Boom!
Debris rained down from the ceiling as the ground shook violently, lasting longer than expected. In the thick smoke, some were even choked by the acrid fumes.
The Captain, unable to contain his curiosity, rushed forward to the door, only to be stunned into silence. His subordinates behind him shared the same expression.
“Captain… there’s definitely something strange about this door!” exclaimed the demolition expert, staring incredulously at the door that remained unscathed.
“The harder it is to open, the more likely there’s something extraordinary inside,” the Captain mused, stroking his chin, his earlier fury dissipating as he decided to look for a switch nearby.
Creak.
A sound echoed through the air.
Instantly, all the mercenaries drew their weapons and turned their attention toward the passage behind them. Beyond this door were seven or eight entrances leading in.
Lu Fei Fan was among those entrances, but he hadn’t stepped on anything that made noise; clearly, it was someone else approaching, so he planned to remain hidden.
Sure enough, from one of the openings emerged a dark figure slowly stepping forward, carrying a black long rifle on his back.
“Luo Jing?” The Captain recognized the newcomer immediately.
Luo Jing stopped about ten meters away from the group of mercenaries, surveying them with a cold gaze. “Those who know their place should leave.”
The mercenaries were taken aback by his audacity, and their irritation quickly turned to action as the sound of bullets being chambered echoed in the cave, clearly a response to Luo Jing's arrogance.
The Mercenary Leader was undeterred. “Do you think the Tiger Viper Mercenary Corps is afraid of you?”
“Afraid?” Luo Jing seemed to scoff, his black rifle suddenly unleashing a barrage like a black Poison Dragon piercing through the air.
Seeing the gun's muzzle flash approaching with deadly precision, the Mercenary Leader felt a surge of fear. If hit, he couldn't even imagine whether his armored vest would withstand such a shot—
Without a moment's hesitation, he drew his Zhan Dao and unleashed all his Pulse Energy. Clang! Clang! Clang!
He slashed three times in quick succession, deflecting three fierce and cunning gunshots. The explosive black flames erupted where the gun and blade met, but he was utterly unprepared for the relentless onslaught that followed; the shadows of Luo Jing's gunfire came crashing down like an unending tide.
Cold sweat broke out on the mercenaries as they realized why Luo Jing was known as the Yan Luo Spear. He found no openings amidst the continuous barrage, forcing them to defend themselves desperately. Yet, Luo Jing’s strikes were too swift and dazzling, making it seem as if dozens of Yan Luo Spears were being wielded by his two hands.
Moreover, his figure moved like a ghost, showing no signs of holding back.
“Wait… wait!” The mercenaries called out in panic as they tried to block his attacks.
But Luo Jing showed no intention of stopping. His Yan Luo Spear erupted with waves of Pulse Energy flames. Bang! Bang! Bang! The Mercenary Leader swung his long knife to intercept the Yan Luo Spear, but clang!
He was sent staggering backward, but Luo Jing’s spear tip followed relentlessly, not giving him a moment to breathe.
The Mercenary Leader felt three bursts of blood erupt from his body as his strength waned. He staggered back, supported by two of his subordinates.
“Get up… now!” The Mercenary Leader shouted at his useless subordinates.
The mercenaries opened fire, bullets raining down and striking around the enemy's gun. Luo Jing calmly retracted his weapon, sweeping it in a wide arc to block the incoming fire, bang bang bang.
Amidst the gunfire, the sound of Energy Bullets constantly ringing out filled the air.
The mercenary group looked up and saw Luo Jing darting left and right. Suddenly, his gun pierced through one of his subordinates, who let out a muffled groan as he was pinned against the massive stone door. The others began firing wildly; Luo Jing dodged and weaved like the wind, his long gun sweeping through the mercenaries.
In the chaos, some began to flee in panic.
The Mercenary Leader glanced at the wound gushing blood from his body. Gritting his teeth, he pulled an energy stimulant from his backpack and injected it into himself, a surge of energy coursing through him.
But before he could even stand up, a long spear swept across and struck him squarely on the forehead. He collapsed instantly, lying there as blood continued to spread beneath him. It wouldn’t be long before he bled to death.
Luo Jing stood proudly, scanning the area until he found no one left standing. His gaze then turned toward Lu Fei Fan’s position, the tip of his gun pointing directly at him.
“Come out.”
Lu Fei Fan could clearly feel that Luo Jing was addressing him.
Slowly, Lu Fei Fan stepped forward with his hands raised.
“It’s you.”
Seeing Lu Fei Fan, Luo Jing lowered his Yan Luo Spear. After all, they had shared a meal in the woods where Lu Fei Fan had cooked for this Killer God.
“Don’t get me wrong; I’m not here to steal any treasures from you,” Lu Fei Fan explained.
Luo Jing did not respond but instead focused intently on the large door. The blood from the mercenary he had just killed began to flow and slowly activated the intricate array of the door. Waves of strange light flickered continuously, twisting and turning along the long-sealed pathways of the door, converging into a magnificent array that radiated brilliance. With a loud clang, the door started to rumble and activate.
The door slowly rose, shedding dust that had accumulated over time, revealing the interior space behind it. It was a vast area, and beyond the door lay a straight, suspended pathway!
Lu Fei Fan and Luo Jing were both taken aback. Luo Jing was the first to step forward with his weapon drawn, and Lu Fei Fan cautiously followed behind. Lu Fei Fan noticed that the suspended pathway beneath their feet was made of some kind of metallic composite material. It was solid and thick, several meters wide, likely impervious to even explosives.
The extended passageway stretched for hundreds of meters, connecting to a circular platform. Surrounding this platform were four additional metal-plated pathways leading in various directions.
Lu Fei Fan observed that the internal structure resembled a fully equipped laboratory, with heavy metal plating serving as protective barriers and various instruments scattered about. What astonished both Lu Fei Fan and Luo Jing even more were the suspended prototype Glass Slots connected by pipes beneath the metal plates.
Inside those Glass Slots were colorful Cultivation Fluids, soaking bizarrely shaped plants alongside some creatures they had never seen or heard of before. Some were nearly a meter long, while others approached ten meters in size. The Glass Slots remained still, and although it was unclear how much time had passed, the area still exuded an aura of advanced biological civilization.
If these experimental subjects fell into the hands of the Free Federation or Alliance Empire, it would likely trigger another technological explosion.
As they reached the circular platform, they noticed a console with a spherical device resting on it.
Luo Jing hesitated for a moment before using his gun to poke at the sphere. It responded by lighting up and emitting synthesized electronic sounds.
“Buzz. Beep beep.” It produced strange electronic noises.
“It sounds like it’s trying to communicate?” Lu Fei Fan observed the rhythmic patterns in its audio, clearly resembling language.
The device seemed to pause for a moment before adjusting its sound output to speak in human language.
“I am the control panel of Babel Tower's Lab 13, Five Control Device. How may I assist you?” The sphere suddenly levitated, emitting light and speech.
“How do you know our language?” Luo Jing asked as he pointed his weapon at the peculiar Metal Ball.
"I intercepted the audio of your conversation just now and identified that your language is in the database," said the Number Five Control Device.
Luo Jing glanced at Lu Fei Fan but did not speak further.
Babel Tower? Lu Fei Fan had heard this name in the biblical Genesis of his past life; it was the tower built by humanity to reach the heavens, but ultimately ended in failure.
"Who created the Babel Tower?" Lu Fei Fan couldn't help but ask, curiosity getting the better of him.
"It was created by the Creator," replied the Number Five Control Device, offering a rather obvious statement.
"Who is the Creator?" Lu Fei Fan pressed on, wondering if it could be those who had transported him to this place from the Giant Civilization.
If so, perhaps Lu Fei Fan could find a way back to Earth here, especially considering that the technology of the Giant Race was far more advanced than that of the Free Federation and Alliance Empire.
The device orbited for a moment, searching for an answer before finally providing one.
Lu Fei Fan waited with hopeful anticipation for its response, feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement.
