Lu Fei Fan crouched down, sensing a faint trace of Pulse Energy among the pile of stones.
"This is the spot," Lu Fei Fan confirmed.
"Hmm?" Wu Lao looked at Lu Fei Fan with confusion.
With a swift kick, Lu Fei Fan smashed through the rubble, revealing an entrance. This opening was different from the others; it lacked the dazzling, chaotic surge of Pulse Energy.
It was clear that this pit could be entered.
"Since you think this is the place, you go down first," Wu Lao said, tossing Lu Fei Fan into the hole.
Lu Fei Fan didn’t resist much. He let himself fall down into the cold air of the pit. Just before hitting the ground, he suddenly used his energy to halt his descent, skillfully controlling his body to avoid a painful landing.
He landed softly and pretended to grunt as Wu Lao and the others floated down after him.
To their surprise, they found themselves in an enormous underground labyrinth. The maze of passages made it impossible to discern where Lian Chongtang and the others had gone.
Wu Lao grabbed Lu Fei Fan. "Find out where they went."
"Don't rush me; let me look around," Lu Fei Fan replied, feigning a search of the surrounding tunnels. He closed his eyes and expanded his senses like a spider's web. The residual airflow in his perception did not indicate Lian Chongtang's whereabouts, but Lu Fei Fan could vaguely sense a familiar surge of Pulse Energy coming from the passage on his right. Even though it was faint, he could feel it instinctively.
"They should be down that way," Lu Fei Fan pointed towards the passage.
"Are you sure?" Wu Lao asked skeptically. It seemed too quick for Lu Fei Fan to pinpoint where the missing people had gone after just closing his eyes for a moment.
Moreover, Lu Fei Fan's cultivation level appeared to be merely that of a Special-Class General; no matter how sharp his senses were, wouldn’t they only reach a few hundred meters?
"Lead the way," Wu Lao commanded, naturally taking control and making Lu Fei Fan walk in front.
Lu Fei Fan shrugged and walked ahead without a care.
The corridor pulsed with a dark red, scorching glow, and the walls were adorned with colorful stones that sparkled like stars, resembling a magnificent palace.
As Lu Fei Fan followed the trail of energy, he encountered several strange, limbless beasts sprawled across the cave. He couldn't identify these bizarre creatures; they were unlike anything he had ever seen.
However, in a place like Bai Di Cheng, it was normal not to recognize familiar beasts. Wu Lao crouched down to examine one but didn’t linger, as these odd creatures had all been killed.
"It seems this is the right place," Wu Lao concluded, certain that the Lian Family had gone this way.
As they moved deeper inside, they heard the clashing sounds of combat and felt waves of energy pulsating through the air.
Wu Lao gestured for everyone to suppress their energy and proceeded cautiously into the corridor. Lu Fei Fan quietly hid behind a rock and noticed Lian Qingzong fiercely battling a Rodent Monster with his Fire Cloud Broad Sword.
The Rodent Monster had sharp claws and was even wearing human armor. It wielded a machete that looked like it was forged from an unknown material, sporting two noticeable nicks. Yet, it managed to clash with the Fire Cloud Broad Sword, creating intense sparks, indicating it was no ordinary weapon.
What shocked Lu Fei Fan even more was that the combat techniques employed by the Rodent Monster were indistinguishable from those of humans.
"This Rodent Beast is using combat techniques from the Free Federation's army?" someone in the group whispered in astonishment.
"Shut up," Wu Lao quickly silenced them to avoid drawing attention.
The Rodent Beast's Zhan Dao sliced through the air with a remarkable pulse of energy—could this creature actually harness Pulse Energy?
In terms of strength, the Rodent Beast only possessed the power of a Special-Class General, yet it was holding its own against Lian Qingzong, a Top War General. The battle was evenly matched, but this Rodent Beast was one of the last of its kind.
Surrounding it were numerous corpses of its kin, clearly slain by members of the Lian Family. With a furious roar, it swung its Zhan Dao with all its might towards Lian Qingzong!
Clang!
Sparks erupted, mingling with the crackling energy of Pulse Energy.
"Die!" roared the Rodent Beast, surprisingly emitting a human-like voice.
Lian Qingzong was taken aback; it was the first time he had heard a beast speak. Although beasts evolved to the lord level possessed great power and intelligence, it was unexpected for a General-level beast to communicate in human language.
"Lian Qingzong, kill him!" shouted Lian Chongtang from the side.
A vibrant flame ignited along the sword's blade. Clang!
The sword, engulfed in roaring flames, swung down towards the Rodent Beast's blade with a resounding thud.
The overwhelming fiery energy reverberated throughout the vast cave, causing the Rodent Beast to stagger backward.
Whoosh!
A golden arrow shot out like lightning, and in that instant, the Rodent Beast could hardly believe its eyes. It looked down at the gaping hole in its chest and saw a human not far away, wielding a gleaming crossbow aimed directly at it.
Thud.
It collapsed, crimson blood seeping from its body.
Lian Qingzong sheathed his weapon and glanced at his father. Lian Chongtang gestured for Lian Shuzhou to lower the Teng She and then beckoned everyone to move deeper inside.
Outside, Wu Lao's wrist locator suddenly emitted a faint signal light. After the Lian Family members entered, he opened the Data Analysis System and quickly inputted a series of commands on the screen.
"Keep up," he called to his subordinates.
As they traversed the cave passage littered with the bodies of Rodent Beasts, they finally reached the end, where the sound of a roaring waterfall echoed in their ears.
The noise of the waterfall was overwhelming, prompting Wu Lao and the others to approach its edge. Lu Fei Fan looked up and was astonished to find that this waterfall cascaded through layers of caves, resembling an underground structure. The area where Lu Fei Fan and his companions stood felt like it was on the fourth level.
"Hmm?" Wu Lao looked up, noticing the waterfall above them, illuminated by light. It was clear that something flowed down from above, likely a river cascading over the falls.
"They're down below," someone reported immediately.
Wu Lao and Lu Fei Fan observed that members of the Lian Family were at the very bottom. They followed suit and descended to the next level, where Wu Lao signaled for everyone to conceal themselves slightly.
"It’s real! It’s really real!" Lian Chongtang's voice echoed, intertwining with the vast sound of the waterfall.
Everyone looked up in response to the voice. At the end of the cave where the waterfall's gentle flow descended, what had once been a dark and lifeless cavern was now filled with sparkling lights, twinkling like colorful lanterns.
"Bai Di Xing Chen!" Wu Lao exclaimed in surprise.
"Bai Di Xing Chen?" Lu Fei Fan was unfamiliar with this term, but seeing Wu Lao and Lian Chongtang's changed expressions indicated that it must be a treasure!
Wu Lao certainly wouldn’t explain to these expendables what the Bai Di Lantern was.
However, Lu Fei Fan and the others were not blind; he noticed that as a gust of wind passed through, a wave of Pulse Energy flowed by, causing lights resembling lanterns to flash simultaneously throughout the upper caves extending in all directions.
"The quantity... Hahaha! Lian Qingzong, with this Bai Di Xing Chen, we can forge a war god-level army to expand our family’s territory in the Ancient Sea region without any issues!" Lian Chongtang declared boastfully.
Unable to contain his excitement at the sight of so many starry lights, Lian Chongtang leaped up and plucked several to consume. As he did so, his body floated in mid-air, radiating a vibrant red glow, which stirred awe in Wu Lao, Lu Fei Fan, and the others.
Bang bang—
Lian Chongtang's aura continued to rise; he was clearly breaking through to the War God Realm.
“This ‘White Emperor Star Fruit’ is indeed different; it instantly elevates one’s Pulse Energy to a whole new level!” Lian Chongtang looked at himself, feeling the changes within his body, as the surging Pulse Energy subtly mingled with mist.
“Pulse Energy has vaporized!” Lian Qingzong stared in astonishment at his grandfather. The purity of Pulse Energy had reached such an extent that it could vaporize, frost, or even crystallize, indicating an astonishing depth of power.
At this moment, Lian Chongtang’s Pulse Energy had been refined to a new tier after consuming the ‘White Emperor Star Fruit.’
“Good.” Lian Chongtang felt his body ablaze with boiling Pulse Energy. “Good, good, good.” He repeated the word three times before settling down.
He noticed the members of the Lian Family were all watching him and couldn’t help but remind them.
“Lian Qingzong, Shuzhou, Shuyang, why are you all still dazed? Hurry up and pick the fruit! Don’t let anyone else discover it!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Lian Shuzhou and several others from the Lian Family began to harvest the ‘White Emperor Star Fruit.’ However, during the process, someone was too anxious and struck the fruit on the wall with their weapon. As a result, those shimmering ‘White Emperor Star Fruits’ fell to the ground and extinguished their glow.
Seeing this scene, Lian Chongtang quickly called out a warning.
“Be careful! This ‘White Emperor Star Fruit’ is unlike ordinary fruits; it cannot touch the ground or soil, or it will lose its efficacy immediately!”
Lu Fei Fan silently took note of this.
The members of the Lian Family continued to pick the fruit. Before long, their area was completely cleared of ‘White Emperor Star Fruits.’ The originally brightly lit cave, illuminated by vibrant colors, fell into darkness, with only the distant untouched ‘White Emperor Star Fruits’ still radiating light.
Lu Fei Fan noticed that beneath the waterfall, a vine covered in sparkling fragments extended longer than the waterfall itself. It continuously branched out and climbed up the walls of the cave, reaching into other caverns and eventually producing such lush fruits. It was unimaginable how many years it took to cover nearly a thousand square feet of cave ceiling with these radiant fruits.
Each member of the Lian Family carried a bag filled with fruits that glimmered through the seams.
“Old Wu!” Someone couldn’t contain their impatience, fearing that if they delayed any longer, all the fruits would be picked by the Lian Family.
“What’s the rush…” Old Wu hadn’t finished speaking; he naturally wanted to wait for an opportunity to reap benefits after the Lian Family had done all the work.
But he overlooked one person amidst his meticulous planning.
"Hmm? Where's my supply pack?" someone at the back of the team noticed something was missing.
In the dim light, a bag was thrown out from a corner, rolling to the feet of a Bald Muscular Man. His strength was considerable, on par with a high-ranking General, but now, as he weighed the half-full bag of shimmering White Emperor Star Fruits in his hand, he had let his guard down.
When he saw the bag at his feet, he suddenly noticed the safety pin had been removed, and a dangerous glow was emanating from the fuse.
"Hand Grenade!"
He shouted in alarm.
Boom!
The deadly light that erupted from beneath him instantly swept over him like a ferocious beast, engulfing him completely!
