After a while, the wind and snow returned to their original state.
On the mountaintop, where the energy shock had caused an explosion, a gully was carved from shallow to deep, with gray-black soil showing signs of having been scorched by Pulse Energy.
A figure slowly descended from the air, their clothes fluttering in the cold wind.
"Sister!" someone called out anxiously from behind. Dongfang Jun hurried after the Soul Devouring Duo, worried about his sister's condition. After all, such a massive disturbance could easily injure anyone; even his sister, no matter how strong she was, would likely be affected.
Dongfang Hui raised her hand, her expression calm. The Soul Devouring Duo took half a step back, sensing no chaotic energy from Dongfang Hui; instead, she exuded a domineering aura.
Dongfang Hui practiced the Wuxiang Divine Fist, which focused on breaking through everything with sheer force. The Soul Devouring Duo believed they were no match for her technique, but they had no way of knowing just how far Dongfang Hui had mastered it.
Both Dongfang Hui and Dongfang Qiubai were pillars of the Dongfang Family's future and were destined to be among the top figures of the Free Federation's new generation.
However, Dongfang Jun could only look up to his brother and sister. He had little emotional connection with his elder brother; since childhood, only Sister Two had shown him any real affection, albeit sometimes sternly.
Naturally, Dongfang Jun did not want anything to happen to his sister.
Before Dongfang Hui lay a monstrous corpse resembling a Sand Scorpion. Its body stood several meters tall and looked as large as a truck. It bore the shell of a Sand Scorpion and had a tail covered in azure scales like ice crystals. Its head was terrifyingly fierce, with a gaping maw full of sharp fangs. Anyone bitten by it would surely meet their demise, yet many of its teeth were broken.
The fatal wound was on its back—a scarred area where thick azure plates were cracked as if struck by an incredibly powerful force. Imprints of a fist remained on its surface.
Dongfang Jun gazed at the colossal creature, feeling his face pale. This thing was indeed frightening; just looking at it was enough to terrify someone like him with limited cultivation—encountering such a beast would likely mean certain death.
"Sister, what level is this creature? How can it be so powerful?" Dongfang Jun couldn't help but ask.
"Ancient," Dongfang Hui replied coolly, her gaze fixed ahead. There, a figure darted out like a bolt of black lightning, sliding down the snow-covered slope with feet as light as wings and an astonishing speed.
It was Che. As he ran back from the mountaintop, he glanced up at Dongfang Hui and Dongfang Jun but hadn’t yet called out when—
A blue light shot out from behind him in the valley with a loud bang!
The snow waves stirred by Da Peng surged forth, emanating a terrifying power charged with the crackling energy of lightning.
Boom—
From behind Che, a number of exotic beasts that had just been slain by Dongfang Hui surged out rapidly.
Dongfang Hui's expression changed dramatically as she frowned and said, "Run!"
Before Dongfang Jun could respond, the Soul Devouring Duo simultaneously reached out and swiftly lifted him up, turning to flee without a moment's hesitation. The others followed suit, showing no signs of dragging their feet.
In a life-and-death situation, no one wanted to face these ancient beasts left over from the era of Bai Di Cheng. Moreover, after Dongfang Hui had expended so much effort to kill one, seeing more than ten emerge at once shattered any confidence they might have had in confronting them directly.
Dongfang Hui paused briefly, waiting for Che to rush past her. She raised her hand and gathered a soft, rain-like Azure Light. Once she had formed it into a compact sphere, she suddenly unleashed a powerful punch.
The Azure Light shot forth from her fist, transforming into a misty blue fist that roared with thunderous energy. The overwhelming force surged forward with an astonishingly domineering aura, booming like thunder—bang bang bang—
The ground shook violently as snow and dust flew everywhere.
This strike of the Wuxiang Divine Fist swept toward the dozen or so Ancient Giant Scorpions that were crowding in to attack them, sending waves of snow and explosive energy into the air.
The first two Sand Scorpions at the front could not withstand the incredible impact of the Pulse Energy; their legs shattered with loud cracks as their armored shells splintered under the force of the blue light.
Having thrown just one punch, Dongfang Hui turned decisively to follow Che after he passed by her. She knew that more Ancient Giant Scorpions were still charging down after her punch had struck.
However, both Dongfang Hui and Che quickly took advantage of the steep mountain walls and the howling wind and snow to escape. The pursuing Ancient Giant Scorpions failed to halt their massive bodies in time against the cliffside; some managed to stop on the icy ground with great difficulty, but those behind them—unaware of what lay ahead—charged down madly. In their frantic cries, three or four of the frontmost Ancient Giant Scorpions were violently collided into by their companions and tumbled down the steep cliff.
As they fell, they let out unwilling screeches beneath the cliff. As for whether they survived or perished after their fall, Dongfang Hui and her companions had no intention of sticking around to check.
However, amidst the storm and snow, they lost sight of Dongfang Hui's figure. The scorpions continued to screech in frustration toward the direction where she had vanished into the vast blizzard, their cries sounding both mocking and resentful.
The reason why Dongfang Hui and his group encountered such a situation was due to the concession made by the Lian Family. It was only upon retreating that Dongfang Hui realized the Lian Family had clearly not taken the same path he had; instead, they had moved in a different direction.
After Dongfang Hui and his companions reached the mountain peak, they lost sight of the Lian Family. As the wind and snow intensified, staying in one place was not a wise choice, so Dongfang Hui decided to head towards the Shangu, which split through the mountains.
However, he did not expect that this area concealed great dangers. The Shangu was evidently the territory of the Ancient Giant Scorpions. Unintentionally intruding into their domain, Dongfang Hui and his group were bound to face a furious counterattack.
Dongfang Hui, along with Dongfang Jun and the Dongfang Family, found themselves in peril, something Lian Chongtang had anticipated to some extent.
At this moment, he stood on a ridge with the Lian Family. Beneath them were numerous cave entrances, each pulsating with violent energy. This chaotic Pulse Energy was not like anything found on land; it stemmed from the void, accumulated over years within these mountains.
The energies were all shades of deep red, azure blue, and dark green. If a person were to jump into one of these openings, they would undoubtedly become prey to this chaotic Pulse Energy, which could obliterate any physical body in an instant. Even if one’s own Pulse Energy had strengthened their body considerably, it would still be powerless against the long-accumulated chaotic Pulse Energy from the void.
The members of the Lian Family naturally did not dare to approach too closely; they stood at the edges of the cave entrances as if waiting for something, each one bowing their heads to observe the chaotic energy swirling within.
Lian Chongtang was among them. He had been standing here with his family for over an hour, hoping to discern a pattern in how this Pulse Energy behaved.
Unfortunately, these openings showed no discernible pattern at all, only reinforcing their belief that the chaotic Pulse Energy from the void was truly terrifying.
“Hmm?” Lian Chongtang noticed a slight change at one of the cave entrances. The violent Pulse Energy surged into those openings before rapidly spreading outward. The rocks beneath their feet began to crack slightly; however, these cracks were not immediately filled by the chaotic Pulse Energy from the void.
“This is it!” Lian Chongtang swung his massive molten magma gauntlet against the rocky barrier. The barrier shattered with a thunderous crash, revealing an opening large enough for two people. Inside, there was no Pulse Energy present, but chaotic energies from the void began to gather around it.
“Quick!” Lian Shuzhou urged as he and Lian Qingzong jumped into the opening created by their father. The others followed suit without hesitation because this opening lacked any concentrated chaotic Pulse Energy that could crush a human body into dust.
In the end, only Lian Chongtang remained on solid ground. He lifted a rock larger than himself and hurled it into the air before leaping into the opening he had just created. However, as he did so, a surge of fiery Pulse Energy erupted from within, striking at the rock he had thrown!
Boom!
The rock exploded into fragments that rained down and sealed off the very opening he had just made.
The rocky piles surrounding this pit area were quite common, blending into the landscape and hardly drawing attention.
However, Lian Chongtang, the Old Fox, had considered everything so thoroughly that if the Dongfang Family's people were to catch up, they would not easily discover their whereabouts.
What Lian Chongtang never expected was that the first to arrive was not Dongfang Hui or anyone from the Dongfang Family, but rather someone entirely unexpected.
A group of masked individuals approached, noticing that the pit was swirling with violent Void Pulse Energy. They cautiously navigated around it, as these openings continuously inhaled and exhaled the chaotic Pulse Energy. It erupted violently like a volcano, occasionally spewing sparks of lightning or sharp crystalline shards resembling fireworks.
One person inadvertently walked too close to the edge, and as the shards splattered onto his clothing, the scorching and turbulent Pulse Energy caused him to scream in agony. Unable to control himself, he rolled straight into a raging opening and was instantly shredded and consumed by the chaotic energy of the void.
Witnessing this scene, everyone was taken aback; this place resembled a series of volcanic craters, where one misstep could lead to disaster.
Wu Lao's expression was equally grim as he looked at Lu Fei Fan. Lu Fei Fan had just closed his eyes to search for any lingering traces of Lian Chongtang, but found nothing. The Old Fox had clearly concealed his presence completely to avoid being tracked by those who followed.
"Hmm?" Lu Fei Fan's consciousness swept over a pile of rubble. He suddenly noticed that this particular pile was different from the others; it still retained a faint trace of molten heat. Could it be that these stones held some secret?
Without hesitation, Lu Fei Fan moved toward the suspicious pile of rocks. Wu Lao and the others watched him closely, their expressions hidden beneath their masks but clearly tense. Their serious gazes indicated they understood everything; if Lu Fei Fan attempted any tricks, they would not hesitate to eliminate him at once.
But what could he possibly be planning with a pile of broken stones?
