At some unknown point in time, Lu Fei Fan discovered that all advanced electronic devices were completely ineffective here. After dealing with a few people in the cave, he had managed to scavenge some communication devices and navigation instruments from them. However, as he ventured further up the mountain, he found that these devices had lost all signal; even the simplest positioning Data Analysis System had failed.
The roaring sound from the mountain peak seemed to have ceased. With the Whale Devouring Sword strapped to his back, Lu Fei Fan dashed through the forest like a Thunder Leopard. The dense trees resembled Giant Trees, their tall trunks exuding a peculiar resinous fragrance. Lu Fei Fan looked up and noticed that the thick canopy was lush and green. As a gentle breeze swayed the branches, dappled sunlight filtered through, casting slanted beams of light onto the ground, creating a beautiful sight.
Lu Fei Fan also observed that operating the Pulse Breathing Technique within Bai Di Cheng was significantly faster than outside. The Pulse Energy in this otherworldly realm was evidently more abundant than outside. To his surprise, he discovered that he could operate two types of Fu Mai Xi Shu: one was the most basic and rudimentary form used in the military.
The other type was generated autonomously within him after entering the Tomb of the Giant Whale. This Pulse Breathing Technique differed from his previous training; it refined Pulse Energy at the cellular level, akin to extracting a drop of Pulse Energy from a leaf or from the air, gathering it into a bowl of water, then into a pool, a river, and finally an ocean. It followed a conventional path of cultivation—long and arduous—where many succumbed to the passage of time before reaching their peak or accumulating enough to form something substantial.
Despite being able to envision what growth and achievements lay ahead on this path, many had lost to time during the lengthy process. Few could reach the pinnacle or gather sand into towers or water into seas.
This path was indeed fraught with difficulty and distance.
Yet now, Lu Fei Fan felt a vortex within him resembling growth rings. This vortex absorbed his excess Pulse Energy automatically during each run, drawing in any Pulse Energy around him and storing it up. However, during this seemingly endless absorption process, Lu Fei Fan attempted to record when it would reach saturation but felt no signs of fullness since emerging from the Tomb of the Giant Whale.
Could it be that his cultivation in this Giant Whale sea was merely limited by his own abilities? Was he forever unable to match its absorption speed?
As these thoughts crossed his mind, Lu Fei Fan suddenly recalled the Azure Feather Spirit Fruit in his Nano Ring. His current strength level was General; he had yet to reach Special Class. However, after killing that person in the cave, he was already close to Top War General level.
He had nearly attained Special-Class General status and even caught a glimpse of Top War General's threshold.
If he consumed the Azure Feather Spirit Fruit, perhaps he could reach Top War General level; however, crossing into War God territory would likely still pose significant challenges.
Lu Fei Fan had considered consuming both Azure Feather Spirit Fruits but wanted to save one for his father in exchange for a Jinwu Holy Blood Pill. He had a habit of overeating in his past life; unless absolutely necessary, he would refrain from such behavior.
Previously, after starting to consume Blood Spirit Fruit, Lu Fei Fan began attempting to crush its Pulse Energy effects with his vortex Pulse Energy. To his surprise, this method proved remarkably effective; the Blood Spirit transformed into warm streams of Pulse Energy that poured into the vortex-like grinder, causing it to operate at an astonishing speed.
Moreover, Blood Spirit Fruit actually catalyzed Lu Fei Fan's Pulse Energy extraction even faster, guiding it along the Pulse Energy bloodline toward greater purity. He even raised his hand and noticed that his Pulse Energy seemed to show faint signs of crystallization.
Was this a good sign or not?
Boom!
Suddenly, vibrations erupted ahead as Lu Fei Fan's attention was drawn by an explosion sound coming from the front.
Lu Fei Fan moved forward, suddenly stopping in his tracks as he noticed a thick layer of lead-colored fog ahead. His keen senses detected that this fog was unusual.
The fog drifted out from the trees in front, when suddenly, gunshots rang out—da da da. Lu Fei Fan recognized that the shots were coming from within the lead-colored fog; something must have been happening inside.
“Help!” someone shouted from within.
The cry abruptly ceased, followed by a loud bang!
A bright explosion erupted within the fog, shaking the ground and sending tremors through the area.
Lu Fei Fan quickly ducked behind a concealed thicket, activating his Pulse Breathing Technique to blend into the surroundings. If one didn’t look closely, they might easily overlook him, mistaking the thicket for just a pile of random branches.
Moments later, several figures burst out of the fog, stumbling as they ran. One of them tripped over a tree root and fell hard to the ground. The others ahead didn’t even glance back, ignoring their fallen companion completely.
“Wait for me…”
The fallen person reached out, but before he could finish his plea, a spear whistled through the air and struck him down, piercing through his back before he could get up. Blood sprayed forth as he collapsed at the edge of the lead-colored fog.
The remaining figures continued to flee, but arrows shot out from the forest—four or five bright projectiles—thud thud thud! One by one, they fell to the ground as each was struck.
After a moment, three or four individuals emerged from the lead-colored fog, each equipped with oxygen masks and independent breathing apparatuses.
One of them held a spear in hand and approached the body of the mercenary who had been killed. He pulled out the spear embedded in the corpse. It was an ordinary wooden spear at first glance, but as he lifted it, it shimmered with a faint glow.
Clearly, it had been infused with Pulse Energy. Lu Fei Fan noted that those who had been killed were all wearing Tactical Vests from the Free Federation; a single shot had taken them down instantly.
This person was not to be underestimated.
The others carried standard Zhan Daos and proceeded to deliver finishing blows to the corpses of those who had just fallen to the arrows.
Lu Fei Fan dared not move; his instincts warned him that the archer was still hidden somewhere in the lead-colored fog.
“Hmm? There's still a live one here!” someone suddenly shouted from the side.
As soon as the words were out, the man in the gas mask, known as the Tall Man, bent down and grabbed the hair of the person lying on the ground, lifting them into the air. The person being lifted appeared to be somewhat petite.
This individual struggled, attempting to kick the burly man with a sweeping leg strike, but that hand clamped down on their leg like an Iron Pincer.
“Oh, it’s a woman,” someone in the crowd chuckled.
“Strange, how did she survive being hit by Lao Zhu's High-Frequency Repeating Crossbow Bolts?” another person wondered aloud.
The burly man immediately released the leg he was holding and, with lightning speed, reached for the woman's clothing. With a ripping sound, he tore away her outer layer, revealing two layers of short armor underneath. The arrow lodged in her back had clearly not penetrated through both layers of armor. Of course, this rough action also exposed her alluring figure.
“High Defense Armor!” someone recognized the armor she was wearing.
“Oh?” The burly man was taken aback. “Looks like this girl has some connections with the military.”
The High Defense Armor was a protective Tactical Vest used by special forces of the Free Federation, far superior to those worn by regular troops. Only Special Operations Forces and the Lighthouse Guard were allowed to equip it within the Free Federation.
It was rumored that a piece of High Defense Armor could sell for millions, and the Free Federation prohibited its sale on the black market.
“Let me go, you bastards!” The woman kicked and punched, but the man simply tightened his grip around her neck.
At that moment, someone nearby spoke up to intervene.
“Lao Sha, this girl is quite spicy; why not…” The person laughed mischievously from behind their mask.
“She's all yours.” The burly man seemed uninterested and tossed her over to a group of others who quickly seized her.
“Let go! You…!” The woman struggled and shouted defiantly.
“Heh heh, keep yelling. If you don’t want to die here, you better behave and serve us well,” one of them sneered lewdly.
“Let go!”
Hiss—
The sound of fabric tearing echoed through the air.
“Haha! What a haul! We’re rich!”
A chorus of lewd voices filled the atmosphere.
Lu Fei Fan was no hero; he wouldn’t take unnecessary risks, especially not for a woman whose background was unknown.
At that moment, four Black Knights suddenly emerged from the edge of the forest.
The group halted, drawing their Zhan Dao weapons. The one wielding a spear raised it defensively, eyeing the four knights that had appeared before them with caution.
These knights, clad in armor from head to toe, wielded various weapons. Lu Fei Fan sensed that the aura emanating from these armored figures was anything but ordinary.
“You—” the leader at the front began to speak.
Swish!
The Tall Knight at the forefront swung his massive sword, which had been dragging along the ground!
A wave of black Pulse Energy surged forth like a black whirlwind, sweeping through the area with a thunderous force. The bodies of those standing nearby were suddenly torn apart!
The previously towering man became alert, and the one with the spear quickly hurled it toward the knight wielding the giant sword. The spear shot forward, radiating brilliant light; it was his full-powered strike fueled by Pulse Energy!
Yet astonishingly, the spear seemed to freeze mid-air as if caught in some force field. Even more shocking was that it disintegrated into dust and fell away!
“Lao Zhu!” The spear-thrower immediately realized he was up against a formidable foe!
In the misty forest, a series of rapid-fire sounds erupted as seven high-frequency crossbow bolts were released in quick succession!
The air crackled with sharp whistling sounds as they sliced through the atmosphere!
The knight dragging the massive sword remained motionless as seven crossbow bolts crackling with lightning shot forth, clanging against the energy field surrounding him.
They collided violently with the visible force, their momentum abruptly halted by the invisible yet terrifying energy barrier.
Boom!
The force field suddenly expanded, sending the arrows flying chaotically in all directions.
“Retreat!” shouted the man with the spear, throwing it without looking back and decisively turning to flee.
But behind the massive sword stood a knight who raised an ancient-looking longbow, its surface resembling decayed bone. Without nocking an arrow, he gently drew back the bowstring, and in an instant, his armor transformed to a brilliant white, pulsating with incredible pulse energy!
A dazzling white arrow materialized on the longbow!
Crack!
With a thunderous roar, that extraordinary energy light arrow was released.
The immense energy field unleashed a cannon-like force, tearing through everything in its path. Surrounding plants and soil were uprooted and withered away. The burly man and the one who had thrown his spear were sprinting for their lives, but the arrow’s target was not them; it simply swept past like it was vaporizing all life around them.
As they ran, they found themselves bloodied and mangled, two of them staring in disbelief as their flesh melted away from their skeletons, ultimately crumbling into dry bones scattered on the ground.
The light arrow streaked through like a meteor, illuminating the entire misty forest. Boom!
A tremendous explosion erupted within the fog, sending trees and mist swirling as if struck by a hurricane. A torrent of wind howled forth, sweeping countless leaves and plants into a frenzy!
Lu Fei Fan widened his eyes at this scene; he instantly realized it was time to leave. If that arrow had been aimed at him, he would surely have suffered devastating injuries!
Who were these knights? Their abilities were terrifying beyond belief!
The knight with the greatsword continued to drag his massive weapon forward, followed silently by three others, including the one who had just shot the arrow, as they entered the misty woods.
Meanwhile, the woman whose clothes had been torn by mercenaries trembled as she clutched her chest and struggled to rise. Stumbling unsteadily, she fled desperately in the opposite direction of those knights.
Far on the other side, holding a thick, classical book in one hand, Pastor Rod of The Church was making his way to the mountain peak when he suddenly stopped.
The alluring Loli, Sebella, also halted in her tracks. She squinted her eyes seriously at the distance, while behind her, Treyzer stood tall and imposing like a hill, shouldering a long package. He resembled an emotionless statue as he gazed into the sky.
Suddenly, a beam of light shot through the air. Rod quickly opened the ancient book he was holding and began to chant a few lines. The light struck his sacred text with force, revealing a tangle of complex and obscure ancient characters.
It took Rod several seconds to read through it. Finally, he closed the book, his expression grave.
"Turn back, we’re heading to another peak!"
Sebella and Treyzer followed suit, but Sebella's earlier serious demeanor had shifted to one of yawning boredom. Clutching a dirty teddy bear, she patted her mouth as she yawned and said, "Gregory really is generous; he actually used the Finger of the Holy Grail to send you guys a warning. It seems someone out there is clearly preventing him from getting in!"
Rod ignored her.
However, Sebella tilted her head and continued to ponder aloud as they walked, pressing her lips together playfully. "I wonder which State Protector from the Free Federation will be sent to deal with that old man Gregory... hmm..."
