As Lu Fei Fan blended into the crowd, making his way towards one of the mountain cities, the teams that followed him began to pour through the gates of Bai Di Cheng.
Those who had arrived by ship were eager not to lag behind and quickly formed groups to head towards their chosen peaks, though the journey to those mountains stretched over several kilometers.
Suddenly, a thick fog descended upon Bai Di Cheng, revealing a more sinister side of the powerful individuals who had entered.
There were many rumors surrounding Bai Di Cheng, and Lu Fei Fan realized he knew far too little. Fortunately, within his mixed group, some individuals were quietly discussing the gossip related to Bai Di Cheng.
As they traveled, boredom set in among the team members, prompting some to strike up conversations. Although they all wore masks and clearly did not know each other, it was evident that they had come with a strong intent to seek treasure.
“Hey, brother.” One man placed a hand on Lu Fei Fan's shoulder as they walked. Lu Fei Fan glanced at the tall figure wearing a mask but chose not to draw attention to himself and pretended to continue on his way.
However, the man had no intention of letting him go and deliberately slowed his pace to keep up with Lu Fei Fan.
“Don’t be so gloomy! It’s boring on this journey. Let’s chat a bit. Before I came here, I bought quite a bit of insider information about Bai Di Cheng from the black market. Want to exchange some?” The tall man, with half his mask covering his face and a crooked grin revealing yellow teeth, nudged Lu Fei Fan with his elbow.
“Uh…” Lu Fei Fan pondered how he could extract information from this man when he himself had no insider knowledge about Bai Di Cheng to offer in return. How could he make an exchange?
As the saying goes, too much talk can lead to mistakes. So, while Lu Fei Fan remained silent, it seemed perfectly normal to the man. After all, in this strange land of treasure hunting, everyone harbored ulterior motives and dreams of wealth. Gaining more insider information was naturally seen as an added layer of security and hope.
Exchanging information required hesitation and caution; after all, everyone in this masked group was not only hidden behind their masks but also guarded about their own thoughts.
The man sensed Lu Fei Fan's hesitation as normal. To alleviate his wariness, he leaned closer, peering around at the people ahead before whispering into Lu Fei Fan's ear, “If you exchange information with me, I’ll tell you a secret for free! I paid a hefty sum for this info, heh.”
“Hey! Wait! I want to exchange too!” A short figure rushed up from behind and shouted at the tall man.
“Oh?” The man immediately withdrew his hand from Lu Fei Fan's shoulder, slowed his pace, and linked up with the brothers behind him.
“What information do you have?” the tall man asked the short, scruffy fellow wearing a mask.
The short guy pulled out a greasy, dark piece of beast skin from a pocket in his tactical vest and proudly said, “Half a map.”
“Wow, that's some good stuff!” The tall man quickly retracted his hand and reached for the half map, but the short guy pulled it back and raised his hand, making his intentions clear.
The tall guy grew impatient and pulled out a black envelope from his pocket, shoving it toward the short guy. They exchanged knowing smiles and then parted ways, continuing on their journey.
However, with these two leading the way, the group quickly split into two factions. One side began exchanging useful information seamlessly, while the other side remained cautious or uninterested in sharing—like Lu Fei Fan, who found himself pushed into the group that couldn’t exchange information.
But Lu Fei Fan was quick-witted. He devised a plan upon seeing the short guy tearing open the envelope while walking. Naturally, he approached the short boy.
“Hey there, brother! I want to exchange information with you. I have a super big scoop—are you interested?”
The short boy eyed Lu Fei Fan suspiciously. He intended to ignore him; after all that time observing, suddenly wanting to exchange seemed like a trick to him. He certainly didn’t want to fall for it.
“Forget it. Looks like you’re not interested. I was thinking of gathering a couple of reliable teammates to pull off something big,” Lu Fei Fan said as he let go of him and pretended to continue on his way, sighing in feigned disappointment.
The short guy stroked his chin, watching Lu Fei Fan with uncertainty—he couldn’t tell what was real and what was fake.
Just then, the tall guy who had first spoken to Lu Fei Fan approached again. “Oh? What’s this scoop?”
Lu Fei Fan put on an air of mystery, which piqued the tall guy’s interest. He scoffed mockingly, “You’re not trying to pull a fast one on us, are you?”
“Don’t think you can trick me into talking; just hand it over,” Lu Fei Fan said, unfazed by the provocation. The Tall Guy pondered for a moment before pulling an envelope from his pocket and handing it to him.
Lu Fei Fan glanced at the envelope, momentarily taken aback, but he still waved his hand, leaning in closer. He whispered something in the Tall Guy’s ear, and the shorter man observed the situation with keen interest.
“What!?” The Tall Guy exclaimed after hearing Lu Fei Fan's words, startled and drawing attention from those around them. Quickly, both men pretended nothing had happened, but the shorter Masked Man was even more curious.
What news could have caused such a reaction?
The Short Guy leaned closer to the Tall Guy and asked, “What’s the scoop?”
“Uh…” The Tall Masked Man, adhering to a professional code of integrity, glanced at Lu Fei Fan and pretended to cough, shifting his gaze away. This only piqued the Short Guy’s curiosity further.
After hesitating for a moment, he decided to trade information with Lu Fei Fan using the map given to him by the Tall Guy. His eyes seemed to convey a warning: “If you dare to fool me, you’ll regret it.”
Lu Fei Fan was pleased to receive the map back and leaned in close to the Short Guy’s ear, relaying what he had just told the Tall Guy.
Upon hearing this, the Short Guy’s expression changed dramatically as he blurted out, “Holy Beast!”
Realizing he had let his surprise slip, he quickly shut his mouth. However, his outburst caught the attention of several people in their group. The words “Holy Beast” were clearly heard by everyone; they weren’t deaf after all. Before long, many began gathering around the Tall Guy and Short Masked Man, eager to exchange their own conditions or insider information.
Soon enough, the group learned about the shocking news that a Holy Beast had appeared in Bai Di Cheng! As this information circulated among them, it became embellished with legendary details—tales of treasures and a vast hidden vault guarded by this creature.
Lu Fei Fan found it amusing that his fabricated insider information was taken seriously by these fools. However, upon examining the map and information provided by those two, he couldn’t help but chuckle; it was filled with incomprehensible scribbles.
Clearly, these two were also peddling false information. Lu Fei Fan shook his head; it seemed that most of this group had no idea what was really going on. Only the elderly leader of their party likely knew the truth.
He did not restrain these people from exchanging information with each other. In fact, he cast a disdainful glance at the actions they were secretly engaged in, but he didn’t pay it much mind. Four or five subordinates accompanying him did not participate either.
Lu Fei Fan never expected that the treasure hunt would turn into a massacre.
His team was making their way toward a mountain peak when they encountered another group.
This group consisted of over a dozen individuals who were focused on picking a peculiar fruit, bright red and strange, from a patch of low plants in the basin.
One of them jumped down and picked an unripe red fruit, exclaiming, “Blood Spirit Fruit!”
Immediately, everyone reacted. The Blood Spirit Fruit was an excellent item for Generals to enhance their Pulse Energy. For those who had yet to advance to General or even for powerful Generals, just one fruit could rapidly increase their Pulse Energy, laying a solid foundation for future advancement to War God. The more, the better. Whether at an auction or in the black market, these Blood Spirit Fruits were rare and often sold for hundreds of thousands.
Before them lay a vast wild grove of Blood Spirit Fruits, appearing like a treasure trove between the two groups.
The dozen or so people in front raised their heads warily to observe the thirty or so newcomers suddenly appearing before them. Lu Fei Fan was mixed among them, hiding at the back. He naturally noticed that many in his team were stealthily reaching for their weapons.
“Kill!” an elder commanded sternly. Three beams of blue light shot out from his figure, instantly piercing through the bodies of three strong individuals who had just drawn their weapons. They fell to the ground in confusion, still clutching their Blood Spirit Fruits in their hands. They hadn’t even seen how their opponent had struck before they met their end.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The two sides clashed immediately, drawing out Energy Guns simultaneously.
Countless Energy Bullets whizzed back and forth like deadly sword lights, claiming lives.
In an instant of fierce combat, over a dozen people fell amidst the grove of Blood Spirit Fruits, most of them killed by random gunfire from both sides.
With their sheer numbers, only a few people managed to seize the fruit fields and escape in a hurry, with some even abandoning their bags filled to the brim with fruit, fleeing for their lives.
However, Lu Fei Fan noticed that none of these individuals were escaping towards the entrance; instead, they were all heading towards the undulating mountains of Bai Di Cheng.
In a rush to clean up the battlefield, the leading captain handed over the largest bag of Blood Spirit Fruits to the elder. The elder took a glance and casually tucked it away, clearly possessing some kind of nano-space equipment.
While they surrendered what they had looted, there were still many unpicked fruits in the wild bushes. Everyone was excitedly searching and picking in the thicket, and Lu Fei Fan was no exception. He gathered more than thirty fruits, and someone immediately began to eat one. Instantly, they felt their Pulse Energy increase significantly, prompting many others to follow suit.
Just as Lu Fei Fan hesitated, he caught the elder's disdainful gaze, clearly looking down on the chaotic scene of these wild bulls gnawing on peonies. Without any intention of intervening, the elder led the way forward.
Lu Fei Fan looked at this peculiar fruit, which was as large as a strawberry from his past life, radiating a strange red light that faintly revealed Pulse Energy. It made him feel a strong craving. After thinking for a moment, he decided to pop one into his mouth. Immediately, a cool and sweet liquid transformed into energy surging into his body. The Pulse Energy he had consumed outside was replenished like a refreshing spring.
This Blood Spirit Fruit was indeed remarkable. Lu Fei Fan sensed that if he ate a few more, he would quickly break through to the level of Special-Class General. However, recalling the elder's disdainful expression made him feel that perhaps his method of consuming the Blood Spirit Fruit was not appropriate; he decided to save it for later.
To save time, Lu Fei Fan and his group did not linger long in that area. A few minutes later, they swiftly departed. Shortly after they left this wild fruit field where bloodshed had occurred due to treasure hunting, another group arrived at the scene.
