Roar!
A tremendous beastly roar erupted from the depths of the sea, deafening all who heard it.
Many ships had not yet managed to evade the danger when, in an instant, several massive tentacles crushed them into fragments.
A figure, radiant with golden light, soared upward like a beam of divine light, piercing through the thick, leaden clouds. It transformed into a dazzling point before descending once more, becoming a streak of brilliance that seemed to tear through the entire sky as it rushed downward!
Boom!
The figure moved at a speed too swift for the eye to follow, darting past the tentacle of the Deep Sea Behemoth. The tentacle trembled violently, and the ocean whirlpool shook fiercely, on the verge of collapsing.
Standing on the undulating deck of a ship, Rod sighed. With one hand cradling an ancient, weathered tome, he opened it. A beam of light burst forth from its pages, transforming into a surge of pure and sacred radiance that fell into the whirlpool, stabilizing it in an instant.
The figure hovering in midair stood proudly and imposing. Grasping a radiant staff, he charged downward once more, accompanied by the thunderous roar of crackling lightning that lingered in the air.
Boom!
The figure sped past another tentacle resembling a giant tree. When he halted again, he had returned to the ship. However, the brilliant glow of his Holy Armor had dimmed significantly; in the blink of an eye, it completely vanished, revealing his Papal Attire beneath.
With a rumble,
The two massive tentacles of the beast that had been raised in midair snapped simultaneously and plunged into the sea, sending up waves several meters high.
Roar!
The beast's roar echoed again, but unlike before, its voice had weakened considerably. After having its two tree-like tentacles severed by an unexpected human warrior, it understood this was a warning from humanity.
Recognizing the situation, it prudently retracted its dominating pulse energy and swiftly withdrew its remaining tentacles back into the water. Its entire body submerged slowly beneath the surface, disappearing into the depths of the whirlpool below.
The giant beast had retreated, but the strange Sand Scorpion in the whirlpool continued to battle against several humans, one of whom was a war god. The outcome of the fight was of no concern to those on the boat.
Rod closed the ancient book, which had thinned by a third, feeling somewhat helpless. He returned to his seat, while Treyzer took up the oars and resumed rowing the boat.
The only constant was the Loli girl sitting in the center of the boat. She maintained her posture with her chin resting on her hands, watching with an air of indifference, as if she were merely observing a play. Bored, she let out a big yawn.
"I thought it would be an evenly matched performance, but it turns out to be a coward. What a disappointment," the Loli remarked, looking quite bored as she gazed into the deep sea.
"Sebella, since you're bored, how about I tell you the story of Dante's Inferno?" Rod suggested with interest, adjusting his glasses as he looked at her.
"Whatever," she replied, showing little enthusiasm as she rested her chin and stared into the distance.
Meanwhile, a robust man skillfully maneuvered the boat into the whirlpool. The vessel tilted and followed the Pulse Flow into the eye of the whirlpool. Strangely enough, it moved neither too fast nor too slow, advancing steadily at a controllable speed.
Witnessing this scene prompted various thoughts among many onlookers. Those aboard the ship or those entering the Great Whirlpool Passage were not fools; they had seen the powerful figure who had severely wounded the Deep Sea Behemoth in just two moves. The radiant holy light displayed an ability that far exceeded that of a war god.
As for whether this individual was above the war god level—Master Fu or a storm-level powerhouse—no one could say for sure. However, some sharp-eyed observers noticed details about his attire.
"He’s wearing clothing from the Alliance Empire and the Holy See..."
"This power... could he be a Paladin?"
"What’s a Paladin?" someone asked.
"Rumor has it that they are part of a knightly order composed of Fusers, each possessing master-level strength. It is said that there are even storm-level powerhouses and Peak Powerhouses among them. No one knows exactly how many members are in the Holy Knights Order; it is said that this knightly order is under the control of the Pope."
"Isn’t that similar to the Lighthouse Guard of the Free Federation?"
“Indeed, our Lighthouse Guard of the Free Federation is the sharp blade of the nation, while the Holy Knights Order of the Alliance Empire serves as the shield of our homeland.”
“I couldn’t care less about the Lighthouse Guard or whatever that Holy Knights Order is. They don’t have the freedom I enjoy!”
“Tsk, sour grapes because you can’t reach the grapes.”
…
Lu Fei Fan entered the vortex and found himself passing through an entrance pulsating with blue light. Countless fragments of light danced around him, their origins unclear—whether they were refracted from the seawater or emitted from somewhere within.
Once submerged, many individuals activated Fish Breathing, while those who were weaker naturally relied on Pulse Shield to support themselves. The closed breathing method was ineffective in converting oxygen underwater, leading many powerful beings to abandon it. Naturally, those selected for this mysterious Masked team were all seasoned practitioners of Fish Breathing, which was evidently one of the criteria for selection.
Having inherited the power of the Giant Whale at the Tomb of the Giant Whale, Lu Fei Fan found underwater breathing easy. However, to avoid revealing his identity, he mimicked those strong individuals and skillfully utilized Fish Breathing to keep pace with the group. They traversed through the blue-lit passage and were drawn into the vortex by a warm current, only to experience a weightless fall!
Many noticed they had exited the water and entered a massive passageway. Those who had emerged from the vortex first were caught off guard and fell down with horrified screams, crashing heavily onto the ground. The sound of their impact echoed ominously, accompanied by the sickening crack of bones.
Fortunately, a majority quickly regained their composure and used Pulse Energy to stabilize themselves in mid-air. Gazing into the unfathomable depths of the passage, several felt relieved for a moment.
“Let’s go.” The Golden Masked Man glanced at the passageway while an elderly man and a woman beside him appeared lost in thought.
The group continued to follow a few individuals ahead as they ventured deeper into the vertical passage.
After traversing through it, they descended into a spacious area and found themselves in an entrance hall. The grand stone doors were intricately carved with complex animal totems, flanked by towering, menacing stone sculptures that reached several dozen meters high. The group stood at the entrance, dwarfed by this magnificent architectural marvel.
“This door…” The Golden Masked individual observed that much of the stone door appeared to have been torn apart by some force, with gaping holes still bearing chilling claw marks.
“Regardless, this place is isolated from seawater by Special Energy; it shouldn’t be those Deep Sea Behemoths that did this,” analyzed an elder wearing a Ferocious Mask.
The woman with a Mask was the first to glide over to examine the damaged Ju Men closely. Finally stopping to glance back at her cautious companions, she let out a series of eerie chuckles before teasingly asking, “Aren’t you all planning to go in?”
Everyone hesitated as the Golden Mask Man locked eyes with the old man. With a flap of his shoulders, the Golden Mask Man, resembling a divine eagle, soared into the air before quickly returning. Only then did he gesture for the group to follow, and they moved through the dilapidated entrance of Ju Men like a school of fish.
As Lu Fei Fan passed through the opening, he glanced back at the gap, sensing something within him stir, though he paid it no mind. Once everyone entered, they were greeted by a vast and magnificent sight. Rather than a palace, it was more accurate to describe it as a cluster of buildings, rising and falling like a celestial wonder nestled in the mountains. Structures adorned several peaks, seemingly floating among the clouds, exuding an awe-inspiring grandeur akin to a heavenly realm.
The architectural style was reminiscent of ancient towers and pavilions, shrouded in swirling white mist with streams flowing gently through the valleys. The ethereal ambiance evoked a sense of tranquility and wonder.
"This..."
"This is Bai Di Cheng!" someone exclaimed in disbelief at the almost otherworldly sight before them.
"Hmph. Bai Di Cheng is an ancient realm; what’s so surprising about that?" the old man retorted coldly.
"Indeed. I've heard that in the Ancient Sea, there are many such ancient realms like Bai Di Cheng. Who knows? If you encounter such an ancient realm in the future, you might find a treasure that could lead to great fortune," a woman chimed in, encouraging further discussion.
"The Ancient Sea..." Upon hearing this name, everyone exchanged glances and couldn't help but smile wryly.
It was well-known that the waters surrounding the Free Federation and Alliance Empire were relatively stable and peaceful. Yet, they still needed to construct the Juhai Great Wall and station heavy troops to fend off most attacks from external Sea Beasts. Even during its peak strength, the Expeditionary Force could only conquer what is now known as the Fallen Zone. Through their diligent efforts, they managed to expand the maritime territory for the Free Federation.
However, venturing beyond Fallen Zone led into the perilous Marginal Seas and then into the Abyssal Sea itself—an even more dangerous territory.
In the Abyssal Sea roamed colossal beasts under the command of powerful Ocean Lords. To this day, many human experts have ventured into both the Abyssal Sea and even further into the Ancient Sea, but few have returned. Over time, both regions became notorious as dangerous forbidden zones.
The world was vast, yet its unknowns represented danger. Lu Fei Fan naturally wished to see what lay within the Ancient Sea. Jiang Wannian, on the verge of breaking through to master-level as a Fuser, had deliberated for a long time before daring to prepare for an expedition into the Abyssal Sea.
He hoped that in his lifetime he could explore the outside world—whether it be Alliance Empire or Free Federation—both felt like cages built by humanity within two oceanic realms.
"Alright. Remember our mission for this trip," interrupted the Golden Mask Man, cutting through the ongoing discussions among them.
"Which one of these is Bai Di Cheng?" The old man suddenly gazed into the distance at the sprawling green scenery obscured by mist. The cloud-wreathed peaks were separated from each other by considerable distances; it would take quite some time to reach any of them from their current location at the entrance of the grand hall.
The words made the woman and the Golden Masked Man hesitate for a moment. None of the three had complete information, so they couldn't determine exactly which mountain peak or ravine Bai Di Cheng was located on.
For a time, they were at a loss.
"How about we split into three teams? Each person can lead a team, and whoever finds it can signal us," the elder suggested confidently, clearly having thought of this plan as soon as they entered.
The Golden Masked Man exchanged glances with the woman before agreeing, "That sounds good."
Soon, the group was divided into three teams, mostly consisting of their own people. The masked Lu Fei Fan was assigned to the woman's team.
As the three teams prepared to part ways, the elder with the mask spoke up, "I hope both of you will honor our cooperation agreement. If you find the treasure, don't keep it all to yourselves."
Treasure?
Lu Fei Fan's keen ears caught those two words, and he squinted his eyes. So these people had come in search of treasure; it seemed there was indeed profit to be made.
But what kind of treasure were they looking for that warranted such an elaborate effort?
