The man had thick eyebrows and large eyes, a high nose and broad mouth, with a square face weathered by time. His features, reminiscent of someone in their thirties, exuded an air of authority and boldness.
He was tall and robust, with muscles on his bare torso that bulged like stones, covered in scars that only added to his fierce appearance. His tattered trousers were worn and torn in several places, giving him a somewhat destitute look, yet he seemed completely unconcerned about it.
What was even more astonishing was that he had a wild boar slung over his shoulder, its long black tusks dripping with blood. Several of its teeth were broken, suggesting it had encountered something it shouldn't have and had been thoroughly beaten.
He strode over to the fire pit with the boar on his shoulder and tossed it down with a thud!
The boar, roughly the same size as him, lay next to the fire, rolling its eyes back in a comical display of indifference as if it were already dead.
“Do you have any water?” he asked Lian Qingzong.
For some reason, Lu Fei Fan felt a flicker of goodwill towards this man from Great Fox Manor and tossed him his water flask.
“Thank you.” He accepted it without hesitation and took a long swig. After quenching his thirst, he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and remarked, “Good wine!”
The flask had originally contained wine, but Fu Qinqin had filled it with something else. Where the drink came from was beyond Lu Fei Fan; all he remembered was that this woman had some wine in the Tropical Rainforest to warm up against the cold and keep dampness at bay.
Lian Qingzong continued to add firewood, knowing full well that this man would be a troublesome headache for him.
Great Fox Manor tossed the flask back to Lu Fei Fan and plopped down by the fire. He rubbed his rough hands together, shaking off clumps of mud and blood—none of which belonged to him. Ignoring Lian Qingzong's furrowed brow, he pulled his feet out of his tattered boots and placed them near the fire to warm up, feigning ignorance of the salty fish odor wafting from them.
“Ah, this feels good,” he said as he warmed his hands by the fire. However, his stomach growled loudly in protest, echoing like a roar. “Hey, does anyone know how to cook?”
Lian Qingzong remained silent and glanced at Lu Fei Fan.
Great Fox Manor naturally turned to look at him as well, stroking his chin with an expectant expression.
Lu Fei Fan stood there, feeling somewhat at a loss under the gaze of the two individuals. It seemed that he wouldn't be leaving anytime soon. The Great Fox Manor felt unfathomable to him; if Lian Qingzong was like a rushing river, then the person before him felt like a majestic mountain.
At that moment, Lu Fei Fan suddenly halted, for he saw another person emerge from the woods.
It was none other than Hei Yan Luo Jing, who had entered earlier. He strolled out leisurely, carrying a hooked spear adorned with several furry creatures. Approaching the campfire, he flicked the spear, shaking off the animals onto the ground in front of Lu Fei Fan.
The implication was unmistakable. Lu Fei Fan looked at the unfortunate creatures that were about to become a meal for these fellows and felt it was quite unjust. However, he dared not voice his anger. Lowering his head, he drew out a dagger and swiftly dispatched the animals.
Lian Qingzong regarded this returning fellow with evident confusion on his face.
"That way... the path is blocked. I came back to take a look," Luo Jing said as he planted his spear beside him and sat down by the fire, clearly intending to join in on the meal.
The Great Fox Manor was filled with comfort as he remarked, "How delightful it is that we can sit here together today; it must be fate. It's a pity there's no wine; otherwise, we could truly indulge ourselves."
"Hey, there's no grill!" Lu Fei Fan exclaimed in frustration from the side.
"Alright," Great Fox Manor replied, putting on his boots and quickly heading into the woods. Before long, he returned carrying an entire tree trunk over his shoulder after seemingly using some method to bring it down.
"Which of you two will handle this?" Great Fox Manor squinted at Luo Jing and Lian Qingzong sitting by the fire.
"I'll do it," Luo Jing said, clapping his hands but showing no intention of getting up.
"Oh, then it's yours." With that, Great Fox Manor tossed the massive trunk—too thick for one person to embrace—over to him.
In an instant, Luo Jing vanished from his seated position. The Death Reaper's Scythe Spear erupted like a dragon, and with fierce precision, his spear technique transformed into a long dragon that coiled around the tree trunk!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The thick tree trunk exploded with splinters as the spear technique moved in an orderly fashion, weaving through the layers of the trunk. The interplay of light and shadow dazzled the eyes, leaving one breathless.
"Hmm. This 'Yan Luo' spear technique seems to have improved quite a bit since our last encounter," Great Fox Manor remarked, nodding in affirmation.
Lian Qingzong also observed Luo Jing's erratic yet sharp spearplay. The two fellows before him were formidable opponents, either destined to become powerful figures he could only look up to or lifelong rivals.
Lu Fei Fan, on the other hand, gleaned a lot from watching Luo Jing's spear technique. Although it was just a few moves, Pulse Energy was not the key element; rather, it was the illusory transitions of the spearplay that reached a level where reality and illusion were indistinguishable. The overwhelming Pulse Energy mixed in made even the feints capable of stunning and injuring the enemy.
More importantly, this person's hands were already far beyond what could be perceived; those hands were the foundation of the endless variations in his spear technique.
Before long, Luo Jing sheathed his spear and stood proudly. A few finely crafted skewers and wooden rods appeared before the three of them.
Having completed his task, Luo Jing seemed uninterested in helping Lu Fei Fan set up the grill. Lu Fei Fan found himself in a dilemma—how did he end up as a servant for these three gentlemen? He was hungry but wasn’t even allowed to lend a hand. This was quite frustrating.
Perhaps Lu Fei Fan's silent prayers had some effect.
A figure suddenly darted out from the forest.
"Young Master..."
It was Jiang Lao. The three by the fire turned to look at this unexpected visitor.
This situation felt off! Jiang Lao froze in place. Hei Yan Luo Jing?
Why was this fellow sitting nearby? Hadn't he left? Why was he still here, staring directly at him? Was he back for him and the young master? Or was it about the Tomb of the Giant Whale?
Should he make a run for it or pretend he hadn’t shown up?
“Wait a minute, who is that burly man sitting next to me, looking all rough and tattered? He seems a bit familiar.”
Could it be… Izumo Overlord? Great Fox Manor?
At that moment, Jiang Lao felt a headache coming on. How could he be here!
Hei Yan Luo, Izumo Overlord, Lie Sun Sword Demon… If the Free Federation knew that these three youngest Killer Gods were sitting together so peacefully, it would undoubtedly cause an uproar!
Jiang Lao felt awkward, unsure whether to approach or retreat.
Just as he hesitated, a voice called out to him.
“Hey, you over there, come lend a hand!”
The one calling was Lu Fei Fan. It was rare to have someone who wasn’t a weirdo intrude like this; he couldn’t let the opportunity slip by. Not daring to ask the three enigmatic figures by the fire for help, he naturally had to grab someone else to assist him, even if it was an old man.
Jiang Lao glanced at Lian Qingzong for approval. Lian Qingzong merely turned his head away, prompting Jiang Lao to reluctantly walk over to Lu Fei Fan’s side.
“What do you need help with?” Jiang Lao asked grumpily.
“Let’s go slaughter some pigs,” Lu Fei Fan replied with an answer that nearly drove him mad.
“You…” Jiang Lao looked at the three men by the fire who were laughing heartily, especially Great Fox Manor, whose boisterous laughter echoed around them as if they weren’t worried at all about attracting fearsome beasts.
“How do we do that?” Jiang Lao suppressed his anger; the bigger picture mattered. He had originally planned to return and report on matters but never expected to stumble into such a situation.
“Don’t you have a sword? Just use it to gut them…” Lu Fei Fan vaguely remembered that this old man had a decent sword.
"You... you don't have one?" Jiang Lao was not convinced. How could he allow this brat to treat him like a pig butcher? He cherished his precious sword and was reluctant to use it on a pig, let alone obey this kid's orders to do so.
"Alright, since you can't bear to use yours, I'll borrow your young master's two-handed sword. It seems quite suitable for pig slaughtering. You're the only one refusing to use a weapon," Lu Fei Fan said, appearing innocent and helpless.
"You..." Jiang Lao was momentarily speechless. He felt completely at the mercy of this fellow. Finally, he impatiently waved his hand, signaling Lu Fei Fan to step aside. He drew the sword from his waist, infusing it with vibrant Pulse Energy. Looking at the Gorgeous Sword in his hand, he truly felt reluctant to use it as a pig slaughtering tool.
"Hurry up! Those big shots are already hungry," Lu Fei Fan urged, though he was secretly delighted.
"Stop urging me! You go set up the roasting rack!" Jiang Lao said, shaking with anger. But when he glanced at the several Killer Gods behind him, any one of whom could easily crush him, he decided to just endure the pain.
With a swift motion, he brought down the sword, its light wrapped in Pulse Energy slicing through the wild boar with precision. Yet, his old face clearly showed signs of distress over the loss.
Meanwhile, Lu Fei Fan was unconcerned about how the old man slaughtered the pig. He set up the roasting rack over the fire and went to gather more firewood. Before long, Jiang Lao's face looked as if his 'wife' had been ravaged by that pig; he felt immense pain but still had to help Lu Fei Fan place the roasted pig on the fire to start cooking.
To make matters worse, Lu Fei Fan patted the shiny, clean pig and praised, "Nicely done! Your skills are impressive!"
Jiang Lao was furious and could only puff up his cheeks in frustration; he couldn't do anything to Lu Fei Fan. Instead, he was ordered to go into the woods to find various wild vegetables, mushrooms, and other ingredients.
Angry yet unable to act out, he reluctantly trudged into the forest to gather materials. To get back at Lu Fei Fan for this humiliation, he deliberately picked several colorless and tasteless poisonous mushrooms. When it came time for everyone to eat them and get sick, he would blame it on Lu Fei Fan for sending him out.
Thinking of this made his malicious heart feel much more balanced. Unable to resist, he gathered even more mushrooms. When he returned to camp with his bounty, he was shocked to see Lu Fei Fan feasting on delicious roasted pork with Luo Jing and Great Fox Manor.
"You... you..." Jiang Lao looked at Lu Fei Fan, whose mouth was greasy and fingers were being licked clean. He was instantly furious, trembling like a frightened chicken.
Wasn't this obviously a scheme to send him away while they indulged themselves? Just thinking about it made Jiang Lao feel even angrier. Like a child throwing a tantrum, he tossed all the wild vegetables and mushrooms he'd gathered onto the ground.
"Hmph!" He turned his head away, feeling that everything needed an explanation now.
Lu Fei Fan looked at the old man, whose temper was like that of a child, and approached him with a piece of roasted meat in hand, feeling quite apologetic.
"Ah, I'm really sorry! I didn’t mean to, I really didn’t! You must be hungry, Big Fellow. Here, have a bite, please!" Lu Fei Fan sincerely offered the piece of meat.
His words sounded genuine enough. Jiang Lao accepted the roasted meat, but when he looked down… what he saw was something blackened and unappetizing.
"What… what is this?" Jiang Lao's facial muscles twitched on the verge of exploding.
"It's… pig's testicle. You don’t recognize this, do you?" Lu Fei Fan explained nonchalantly while continuing to sprinkle spices on the roasted pig.
"You… you…" Jiang Lao was at a loss for what to do.
"Jiang Lao, don’t misunderstand! This is the most nutritious part! At your age, you should really have some. We young folks don’t need it, so of course we should honor our elders like you!"
"I’m going to kill you!" Jiang Lao threw away the piece of roasted meat and drew out the knife he had used to slaughter pigs, getting angrier by the second. "Just watch how I deal with you!"
