The sudden drop caught Lu Fei Fan off guard.
At that moment, a Tree Vine quickly wrapped around his wrist, pulling him and the girl out of the mud pit!
Lu Fei Fan landed safely on the shore, holding the girl tightly. She broke free from his embrace and ran frantically toward her mother, but what awaited her was a battlefield. Bullets had already riddled her mother’s body with holes, blood gushing from her abdomen.
The girl reached her mother’s lifeless body, weeping uncontrollably as she shook her dead mother, crying out, “Mom! Mom…”
Lu Fei Fan hurriedly scooped her up and dashed to the side of a tree, handing her over to a villager. The villager glanced at Lu Fei Fan, still trembling with fear, but took the girl nonetheless.
At that moment, a figure swung from one tree to another, gripping a vine and stopping to press a hand against a thick trunk.
Lu Fei Fan then noticed it was the girl standing on the tree branch who had saved him. She glanced at him before turning away to channel green energy into the Tree Body.
The Ancient Tree's patterns activated; it loosened and began to thump as roots emerged from beneath the Ground.
The roots swung around, striking one of the Mercenaries. The Mercenary flew far away, crashing into a tree like a cannonball before collapsing on the ground, struggling to get up while coughing up blood. Eventually, he fell back onto the Ground, lifeless.
Li Tiezui finally became aware of the Forest Child and suddenly turned to shout, “Madman, take them out!”
A half-disfigured man charged forward with a Combat Knife toward the ancient tree that was continuously throwing its roots into the air, sweeping at the Mercenaries who were shooting at it. Several Tree Vines lashed out at him, but he nimbly dodged them. However, as a few more Tree Vines blocked his path, he had no choice but to raise his Combat Knife to defend himself!
Clang!
The Combat Knife clashed against a Tree Vine with a loud noise, sending the madman flying to the ground. He skidded along with both feet and one hand bracing against the earth until he finally stopped himself from being thrown off balance.
He looked at the fully activated ancient tree; energy flowed down from its Energy Source in continuous streams. Clinging tightly to the Tree Trunk was a slender figure—the very one causing this ancient tree to move. Below, the Tree Vines writhed like giant pythons with bared fangs, wildly striking at the surrounding Mercenaries.
Many villagers hurriedly evacuated from the area, while those conscious Tree Vines attacked the mercenaries.
Among them, a mercenary hefted a Rocket Launcher and swiftly fired an Energy Rocket at a Tree Vine. The Rocket Artillery struck a Tree Vine, causing it to sway awkwardly as the explosion landed outside the Fei Hu Battle Team's position. Da Biao quickly pressed down with his colored pen.
Boom!
The explosion kicked up a cloud of dust and splintered wood, with some of the flying debris transforming into darts that embedded themselves into the Tree Trunk.
Suddenly, a madman shot forward from his position, his explosive power creating a crater in the ground. He flew out like a cannonball, his Combat Knife aimed at the fallen Tree Vines, unleashing an astonishing light as he severed several roots in one sweep.
However, more roots from the ground lashed out towards him. He remained agile, wielding his Combat Knife as he charged forward.
He was certain that if he could eliminate the Forest Child on the Tree Trunk, this activated ancient tree would surely perish!
The person on the Tree Trunk also noticed this approaching adversary. The roots transformed into countless sharp spikes or giant serpents, attempting to ensnare him. Yet, the fierce madman swung his Combat Knife, roaring as he dodged and continuously severed those Tree Vines. He underestimated the Forest Child's power; not only was it that tree, but the surrounding trees and their roots also surged from underground to attack him. Still, this man's ferocity left Lu Fei Fan dumbfounded.
Single-handedly armed with what appeared to be an unremarkable Combat Knife, he navigated around the activated ancient tree, searching for opportunities while cutting down the surrounding disruptive Tree Trunks and Vines. Large sections of roots fell away as the trees trembled in pain.
His tank-like advance was simply unmatched; this was the madman's strength. Lu Fei Fan assessed his own capabilities against this man and realized he had less than a fifty percent chance of winning.
At this rate, the madman wielding the Combat Knife would eventually breach the Tree Trunk and chop down the entire tree.
In just two fleeting moments, his Blade energy swept through, sending struggling roots cascading down. He charged toward the trunk but barely had time to swing his blade before sharp spikes erupted from it, forcing him back.
The madman had grown accustomed to this rhythm of attack and moved with increasing ease.
On the Tree Trunk, Yun Kui, who controlled all of this, had no choice but to summon his loyal guardians.
“Gui Luo! Go and restrain that person!” Yun Kui's voice echoed in Gui Luo's mind.
At that moment, he was engaged in a duel with Li Tiezui, who was continuously firing at him with his weapon. Gui Luo wielded his wooden spear, creating a flurry of spear shadows. Li Tiezui swiftly drew a dagger, clashing against him with a sharp clang!
The impact sent him staggering backward, and he rolled away to escape the Tree Sentinel that was trying to engage him in close combat.
On the ground lay several hand grenades with their safety rings removed. Gui Luo glanced at the dangerous human devices, still processing the situation.
Boom! Boom!
The earth shook violently as an explosion erupted, tossing him into the air. He flipped over, and a branch pierced through his chest cavity. He looked down at it nonchalantly and pulled it out without a second thought.
Just as he was about to charge forward and stab the human who had ambushed him with a few thrusts of his spear, Yun Kui's voice rang out in his mind again.
“Gui Luo, come save me!”
Gui Luo suddenly turned his gaze toward the Tree Trunk. The madman had already raised his combat knife and severed the largest Tree Vine. Countless other Tree Vines attempted to burst forth from the ground, but the madman, fueled by overwhelming energy, swung his combat knife down toward the earth!
Bang!
A massive surge of energy cascaded downwards, and with a thunderous crash, the ground erupted in two towering waves of dirt. Countless wood chips and soil flew into the air, leaving behind a huge impact crater where no Tree Vine roots remained.
The madman launched himself toward the person on the Tree Trunk, moving even faster as a swirling green whirlwind of spear shadows spiraled toward him like a dragon.
The madman's knife swung down once more!
Clang!
The two separated, and the madman remained unharmed, but Gui Luo was left with a gaping wound on his chest. He looked down at the injury.
Li Tiezui got up, spitting out the dirt from his mouth, and stared at the creature.
"Madman, kill it!" Li Tiezui shouted.
The madman didn’t respond, but his intention was clear: he wanted to eliminate this obstacle, whether it was a Tree Person or a Tree Puppet guard; he simply intended to kill it.
Gui Luo brandished his spear and charged at the madman without feeling any pain.
The madman met him head-on, his Combat Knife carving deep grooves into the ground. As they collided, the illusionary spear sprouted countless green leaves in a surreal display!
The force of their clash surged like a tidal wave, flattening the vegetation, trees, and stones in its path. Nothing could withstand the terrifying full-force strike; where the Blade passed, it was like breaking through bamboo!
The two forces collided with a thunderous explosion of energy. Tree trunks were sent flying, while Gui Luo continued to engage with the madman in fierce combat. The spear clashed against the Blade; clearly, no matter how sturdy and resilient the wooden weapon was, it would be worn down by the Combat Knife's Blade. When Gui Luo finally found his wooden spear reduced to a mere stick, he howled in rage.
With both hands plunged into the ground, the earth trembled as branches shot up like spears from below.
The madman leaped and dodged, aiming for one of its weak points before landing. His knife plunged straight into the ground!
Boom!
Gui Luo's arms shot up from where they had been buried underground, withered and ultimately snapping at the shoulders. He staggered back a few steps, bewildered as he looked at his shoulder where his arms had once been.
Once again leaping into the air, the madman swung his knife down fiercely. The radiant glow burst forth like a shadow that obscured Gui Luo's vision; behind that darkness was the person he desperately sought to protect.
It suddenly recalled the countless beautiful moments with that girl.
"You need to smile; you don't even know how to laugh, you wooden block!"
"Forget it, I'll tell a joke. If you understand, just respond; after all, you're just a wooden block and can't laugh!"
"Wooden block, I really want to see the outside world."
"Wooden block, I'm tired. Carry me home!"
It suddenly broke into a grin.
The madman swinging his cleaver in the air noticed this wooden creature smiling strangely at him. He was momentarily taken aback, but the cleaver in his hand showed no mercy.
What he didn't know was that Gui Luo wasn't smiling at him; it was bidding farewell to that person.
Just as the long knife was about to strike it, an astonishing green light burst forth from its body. A brilliant glow erupted from within, radiating like a green sun, unleashing the most dazzling and deadly Guanghua!
The madman widened his eyes and quickly raised his long knife in front of himself, channeling all his energy to construct an Energy Shield around him like a cicada's chrysalis!
Boom—
A thunderous explosion engulfed everything around it, leaving behind a massive semicircular crater!
The madman crashed into a tree and fell heavily, half-kneeling on the ground with his long knife propped up. He looked up toward the distance, where the activated Tree Trunk stood. The girl faced him, tears streaming down her face.
"Gui Luo..." she murmured this name, the best friend who accompanied her during lonely times, her greatest comrade-in-arms, and her loyal protector.
As long as I utter a plea for protection, it would charge forward without hesitation, even sacrificing everything, including its own life.
In the village's Azure Pond, the Bodhi Tree Demon howled as it rose from the depths of the pool, splashing green water everywhere.
Awooo—
Its lonely cry resonated with countless trees, which trembled as if mourning; they had lost yet another kin.
This was the swan song of the trees, a lament for their once-glorious race that had ruled this Rainforest now suffering another loss.
At this moment, Yura, injured and lying on the ground, was equally astonished, her expression complex.
Nearby, half-reclining on the ground with blood at the corner of his mouth, Hao also found it hard to believe. He got up and glanced at the distant forest. "It's Yun Kui..."
Before he could finish, a heavy boot came crashing down on his chest...
