The vehicle drove through the bustling city for about half an hour before stopping in front of a four-story circular building in the East District.
As Lu Fei Fan stepped out of the car, he noticed that this uniquely shaped structure, resembling a gong, had an open plaza with a fountain, where pigeons occasionally fluttered about.
Surrounding the plaza were patrolling security teams. The trained bodyguards got out of the vehicle and followed Mo Guan Shi closely. One of the bodyguards opened the car door, and Lu Fei Fan, along with the horsemen and Fu Qinqin, was escorted out like honored guests.
A scarlet carpet stretched all the way to the entrance of the building. As the vehicle sped away, it felt as if they were attending a grand red carpet event.
Mo Guan Shi gestured for them to proceed and led the way.
They walked along the long red carpet towards the building adorned in crimson and white decorations. Lu Fei Fan speculated that this four-story structure resembled a special exhibition hall.
Upon reaching the entrance, everyone underwent security checks. When the alarm sounded due to a weapon detection, Mo Guan Shi cleared his throat and said, "Please cooperate, everyone. Weapons are not allowed in our auction venue. You can temporarily hand them over to our security personnel, and they will be returned to you intact when you leave."
After finishing his statement, he smiled apologetically, behaving as politely as a true gentleman.
Without hesitation, the horsemen removed their holstered pistols from their waists and tossed them into the security personnel's box.
Fu Qinqin hesitated for a moment but ultimately placed her two cherished long-barreled pistols into the box. Afterward, she stood aside, but two burly security guards with fish-like eyes continued to watch her intently, clearly believing she hadn’t finished.
The team leader gave her a knowing glance. Fu Qinqin felt a mix of anger and restraint as she approached the box again. She removed two daggers from her waist and thigh and then pulled out an exquisite Specialized Energy Revolver from under her arm before placing it into the box.
At this point, the security personnel turned their attention to Lu Fei Fan.
Lu Fei Fan took off his Lie Hound from his waist and placed it in the box. He hadn’t brought any daggers; however, upon seeing the large-caliber weapon, the security personnel couldn’t help but cast wary glances at him. Although its magazine capacity was small, its caliber indicated it could be deadly.
Even Mo Guan Shi glanced at Lu Fei Fan with interest. Lu Fei Fan met his gaze with a smile, and Mo Guan Shi returned it with an apologetic nod.
After the inspection, the group passed through two advanced scanning gates, where beams of metallic light swept over them. Only after confirming that there were no alarms or dangers were they led inside by Mo Guan Shi.
Inside was a large hall, with a reception desk at the center. Several elegantly dressed female staff members were diligently working at floating Light Screens.
Lu Fei Fan glanced around and noticed that on both sides of the building's lobby, there were two sets of stairs leading up and down, with a security personnel stationed at every location.
Mo Guan Shi brought them to the front desk, where the staff quickly processed temporary identity cards for the three of them.
Afterward, Mo Guan Shi led them to a single-story elevator on the left side. Once inside, he swiped his identity card, and the elevator chimed to signal it could operate. Lu Fei Fan realized that the elevator was not ascending but descending!
After descending about four or five floors, the elevator automatically stopped, and the doors opened to reveal a long corridor. On both sides of the corridor, several bodyguards watched them with vigilance and an air of danger.
As Lu Fei Fan stepped out of the elevator, he caught a whiff of a unique floral scent. Qin Qin also noticed it; they exchanged glances before following Mo Guan Shi down the corridor. Lu Fei Fan kept an eye on their surroundings and noted that expensive paintings adorned the walls on either side!
One painting titled "Field Woman and Sunset" he recognized from a newspaper article; it had reportedly sold for nearly ten million. Whether it was genuine remained uncertain. There were many other framed oil paintings whose prices Lu Fei Fan did not know, but he was sure that the owner of these artworks was either a wealthy nouveau riche or a connoisseur with more antiques than space to display them.
Reaching the end of the corridor, they found two security personnel guarding a large door.
"Is the President inside?" Mo Guan Shi asked.
"He just finished meditating," one of them replied before turning to open the door.
Mo Guan Shi pushed open the grand door, revealing a spacious martial arts hall before them.
In the center sat a figure on a mat in meditation, dressed in white training attire. However, his appearance was peculiar; they could not see his head as he seemed to be wearing an odd Metal Mask. Several Air Tubes connected from the helmet to his neck.
Suddenly, the eyes behind the Metal Mask opened wide as they locked onto Lu Fei Fan and the others.
“Please, have a seat!”
The voice, monotonous and mechanical, echoed from beneath the Metal Mask. He gestured invitingly, and three cushions appeared in mid-air, landing before the three of them, facing him.
“Mind Weaver…” Mr. Ma suddenly spoke up.
“It seems Mr. Ma is familiar with the Mind Weaver?” The masked figure looked at Mr. Ma with interest.
“I’ve heard a little about it. Only a Mind Weaver can summon objects out of thin air like you just did,” Mr. Ma replied, sitting cross-legged without hesitation.
“You're only half right.” The figure waved his hand after Mr. Ma and the others settled down, signaling Mo Guan Shi and the others to leave.
Mr. Ma felt puzzled, while Lu Fei Fan contemplated which half of Mr. Ma's statement was correct—could it be that he wasn’t a Mind Weaver?
The masked man raised his hand again, and a teapot materialized in the air. Then, strands of green Pulse Energy rose up before the three of them, twisting and transforming into tangible teacups!
He filled each cup one by one; the aroma of tea wafted through the air, steam curling upwards—it was not some trick or illusion.
Mr. Ma watched in astonishment as this display unfolded before him. He had clearly seen the special energy strands at work. Lu Fei Fan was even more impressed; being a practitioner of Fu Mai Xi Shu himself, he recognized that this was a manifestation of Pulse Energy!
Transforming Pulse Energy into internal energy was one level of mastery, but materializing internal Pulse Energy into physical objects represented an even higher realm!
Individuals like this Empowered Individual could wield combat skills manifested from Pulse Energy that were undoubtedly formidable. Such individuals were exceedingly rare; many ordinary Fusers spent their lives practicing the Pulse Breathing Technique to enhance their combat abilities, while a Mind Weaver could effortlessly conjure combat skills at will—truly favored by fate.
“Pulse Energy manifestation!” Lu Fei Fan remarked, somewhat dazed.
Both Mr. Ma and the masked figure were taken aback and turned to look at Lu Fei Fan in unison.
“It seems that Mr. Ma's team members are quite discerning,” the other party complimented, glancing at Lu Fei Fan. Being young and knowledgeable was not a bad thing, but whether one's abilities matched their insight was another matter entirely.
“Oh, he’s just called Fei Fan,” Team Ma politely introduced him to the other person.
“Fei Fan?” The other party repeated the name with apparent interest. “Hmm, nice name. I’m Bai Qi…”
Pfft—
Lu Fei Fan spat out his tea.
Team Ma and Fu Qinqin quickly stopped, looking at the teacup and then at Bai Qi.
“Does Mr. Fei Fan find the tea too bitter and tough?” Bai Qi asked, looking puzzled at Fei Fan.
Lu Fei Fan awkwardly wiped his mouth, putting down the teacup as he hurriedly explained, “It’s not the tea; it’s your name that reminded me of someone.”
“Oh?” The other party immediately became interested. “What does my name have to do with the person you’re thinking of?”
“Ahem.” Lu Fei Fan gathered his thoughts. He couldn’t say that Bai Qi was named after the military god who had slaughtered hundreds of thousands during the Changping Campaign; he could only concoct a story. “His name is also Bai Qi.”
“Oh? Hahaha.” Bai Qi found it amusing. “It seems my name is quite common if I can meet someone with the same name so easily.”
Team Ma and Lu Fei Fan chuckled along, while Qin Qin looked at the three men, completely unaware of what was funny, and could only sip her tea delicately.
“Alright, back to business.” Bai Qi stopped laughing. “The reason I invited you here is that I need your help. Recently, the reputation of the Fei Hu Battle Team has been outstanding.”
“I’m flattered; we haven’t done much,” Team Ma said sheepishly, feeling unworthy of such praise. In reality, what had happened on Desert Island was unknown to others, and he couldn’t understand how these people had found him.
"I would like to commission you all to go to the Green Mist Rainforest to retrieve something very important!" Bai Qi finished speaking and carefully observed the expressions of the three.
"The West Sea Forbidden Zone, known as the No-Till Graveyard, is a forest graveyard..." Fu Qinqin muttered, recalling this place she had heard of.
The horse team frowned; this location was in the Fallen Zone, filled with even more dangers and mutated beasts. Moreover, there were rumored to be unheard-of mutated plants there, which specifically targeted animals and humans!
Many mercenaries and powerful individuals had perished there, with not even their remains found.
"What’s the reward?" Lu Fei Fan knew that high risks often came with high returns.
"One hundred million!" Bai Qi replied without blinking an eye, stating the figure.
This response was akin to a thunderclap in the silence for the three!
The horse team, Fu Qinqin, and Lu Fei Fan were instantly stirred.
"Can we take a look at the mission details?" The horse team naturally felt some concern; if it involved crossing his moral line with acts of murder or arson, he would never accept such a job.
Bai Qi raised his hand and snapped his fingers. Immediately, a subordinate brought over a folder. Bai Qi opened it in front of the horse team and others. Inside was a prominent colored photograph of a plant resembling a green pod, or perhaps it was just a pod containing several rows of green peas. However, the exterior of this pod was covered in a liquid that resembled water but was an Emerald Green!
The horse team glanced at the label next to the photo and couldn't help but exclaim, "This is... the Source of Life?!"
"Exactly," Bai Qi nodded in acknowledgment without any hint of concealment.
"The Bodhi Tree Demon has been declared extinct, hasn't it?" The horse team asked while looking at the photo.
"It is merely endangered," Bai Qi explained with a smile. "Someone has seen blooming Bodhi Tree Demons again in the Green Mist Rainforest! What you need to do is find it and bring back the Source of Life for me! Then the one hundred million reward will be yours!"
Bai Qi pressed the photo of the 'Source of Life' with his finger and gently pushed it towards the Horse Team, waiting for his response.
The Horse Team hesitated for a moment before finally looking up and saying, "I need to go back and discuss it with my team!"
"That's fine. Once you've made up your mind, just contact Mo Guan Shi," Bai Qi said, making a gesture to see him off.
The Horse Team nodded, then stood up, followed by Lu Fei Fan and Qin Qin, who also got up to leave. Mo Guan Shi was waiting for them at the door.
After they left, Bai Qi glanced at the folder; the photo was gone. A playful smile lingered at the corners of his mouth. Just then, the door opened again, and a steward dressed similarly to Mo Guan Shi entered.
"President, the other ten or so Special Operations Teams have nearly finished their discussions..."
"Good," Bai Qi waved his hand, and the steward respectfully exited.
Then he removed several tubes from the Metal Mask, and a spray of air burst forth from them. Finally, he took off the blood-stained Metal Mask and tossed it to the ground. He turned and walked to another side where he casually drew a circle. An exit led to a laboratory filled with various Advanced Instruments. In the dim green light, he stripped off his training outfit and opened a Cultivation Tank. He stepped inside and slowly lay back as the hatch closed automatically. The Cultivation Tank filled with green liquid that surged like a tide, quickly engulfing his battered and decaying body...
