Six men wearing masks confronted her, their murderous intent palpable as they surrounded her. Each held a different weapon. 0

Some wielded military daggers, others brandished knives or axes, but all wore distinctive black masks that revealed only their eyes, dressed in deep gray attire. 0

It was clear they were well-prepared. 0

These desperate men were evidently waiting to assassinate Xia Qi, an officer of the Free Federation, effectively blocking her escape routes. 0

In truth, ever since she had taken control of the situation with the big dog, she had sensed that this moment might come. However, she never expected to be betrayed so completely by her informant and underestimated how quickly these shadows would strike. 0

Ultimately, it was her own carelessness; she had always harbored a sense of luck. 0

After all, those who walk by the river for years are bound to get their shoes wet. In this line of work, the possibility of bloodshed and sacrifice was inevitable. 0

"Kill!" A commanding voice rang out behind Xia Qi, decisively issuing orders. 0

The masked assassins sprang into action from all directions, their military daggers aimed at Xia Qi's vital points. 0

Xia Qi skillfully blocked their attacks with her military knife. An axe swung toward her face; she bent low to evade it and thrust her knife into one of the assailant's chest, pushing him back two steps. As she withdrew the blade, blood splattered before she turned and plunged her knife into another assassin's neck, burying it to the hilt. But behind her, a sharp sword sliced through the air with a whoosh! 0

It tore into her back, blood spraying forth as she spun around to parry with her military knife. She clashed blades with her opponent twice in mid-air before her knife was knocked from her hand, leaving her arm numb. 0

An axe descended from behind; she stepped back and elbowed the attacker in the throat. But at the same moment, a military dagger and a knife lunged at her from both sides. 0

She was doomed! 0

The thought flashed through her consciousness as she attempted to grasp the sharp weapons coming at her. 0

Most threatening was the assassin wearing a black and white mask; his longsword was something she could not contend with. He lunged directly at her face—if he struck true, it would mean certain death. 0

Whoosh! 0

A flying dagger accurately struck the long sword! 0

Clang! 0

The long sword was forcefully knocked aside, and the impact was so strong that the person wielding it spun around in surprise before realizing someone had leaped down from the rooftop. 0

Bang! Bang! 0

Two flying kicks sent the assassins on either side of Xia Qi, who were trying to land a finishing blow, sprawling backward, blood spewing from their mouths. 0

Xia Qi looked at the newcomer, momentarily stunned. Although half of their face was obscured by a scarf, she still recognized them from their attire and demeanor. It was him? 0

"Kill!" The assassin wielding the long sword shouted at this unexpected visitor who had interrupted their plans, showing no mercy. 0

Several assassins turned and charged at Lu Fei Fan, weapons glinting menacingly in their hands. Anyone would feel fear and retreat in the face of such a display, especially since they were outnumbered. The leader whistled, and four or five more similarly dressed assassins climbed in from outside. 0

Thus, these masked assassins surrounded Lu Fei Fan. He sidestepped to avoid an attack from one wielding a machete, but as he maneuvered away, his knee shot up, striking the attacker squarely in the face! 0

With a crunch, the assassin's mask shattered upon impact with Lu Fei Fan's knee, blood mixing with fragments of bone as he collapsed to the ground. 0

The others surged forward to join the fray. 0

Meanwhile, Xia Qi found her courage and engaged two assassins in hand-to-hand combat. Her fighting skills held their own against both attackers; however, there was still one lurking on the outskirts waiting for an opportunity to strike. 0

Crash! Bang! Clatter! 0

Fists met flesh, bones cracked, and the sound of bodies colliding against the wall echoed sharply in the courtyard. 0

As the Assassin Leader and several assassins focused on dealing with Xia Qi, in less than half a minute, four or five assassins had already fallen around Lu Fei Fan. 0

Only then did the Leader become aware of Lu Fei Fan's impressive skills. The other assassins exchanged glances, some looking at Lu Fei Fan with fear, realizing he was not an easy opponent. 0

"Not a single capable one among you." Lu Fei Fan stepped on the corpse of a nearby assassin and pointed directly at the Assassin Leader, saying, "You come!" 0

The remaining assassins looked at their boss, who was visibly annoyed by their scrutiny. 0

"What are you staring at? Get him!" the Assassin Leader shouted furiously, shaking his longsword in frustration. 0

The other assassins immediately surged forward. 0

However, Lu Fei Fan moved with such agility that the four assassins couldn't even close the distance to him! 0

"Nine Palace Steps!" Xia Qi recognized Lu Fei Fan's footwork. 0

Only then did the Assassin Leader realize that his target was this woman. He lunged forward with his longsword, but Xia Qi dodged to the side and tried to grab his collar to throw him off balance. Yet, his lower body was as solid as a rock, making it impossible for her to budge him. 0

"Hmph." He let out a cold laugh. 0

In an instant, his longsword came slicing towards her throat. She grasped his arm tightly, and for a moment, they were locked in a stalemate. However, the man's strength was still greater than Xia Qi's. She held her ground fearlessly as he exerted all his force to try and pull his sword free. If he could just slice through this woman's throat, his mission would be complete! 0

He roared in anger and suddenly increased his strength. 0

But faster than that, an axe appeared before him, slicing upward from below. With a sickening crunch, his arm holding the longsword flew off completely, blood spraying like rain onto Xia Qi's stunned face. 0

The Assassin Leader staggered back several steps, staring at his severed arm gushing blood. Remarkably, he managed to suppress a scream. 0

He turned around and climbed over the wall to escape, but just as he stood on the edge of the courtyard wall, a loud gunshot rang out. 0

In the distance, a bullet whizzed through the air and pierced his body, which had just steadied itself against the wall. He fell backward, crashing down into the rubble below. 0

Lu Fei Fan grabbed Xia Qi and rushed into the house. Following closely behind were bullets raining down like a torrential storm, striking the ground of the courtyard and kicking up clouds of dirt, or embedding themselves in the walls with explosive force. 0

Clearly, several gunmen were lying in wait outside. With close combat proving ineffective, they naturally aimed to silence any witnesses. 0

Fortunately, Xia Qi was well-acquainted with this building. After catching her breath for a moment with Lu Fei Fan hidden behind a wall, she led him through the structure to a dark room at the back. She turned on the light, revealing a filthy room reeking of decay—presumably the lair of a large dog. She lifted the bedding off the bed and pulled open a hidden door beneath it, revealing a secret passageway. 0

She glanced back at Lu Fei Fan, saw nothing but determination in his eyes, and jumped into the passage first. 0

Lu Fei Fan took one last look at her retreating figure, then grabbed an unopened bottle of liquor from the table before following her into the darkness. 0

Whoosh! 0

An Energy Rocket screamed past them. 0

Boom! 0

The building was instantly engulfed by a fireball from the explosion. 0

Below in the passage was a tunnel, dry and filled with the scent of earth. Occasionally, rats scurried by. However, Xia Qi managed to locate an energy switch that illuminated several dim lights along the corridor leading to its end. 0

She let out a muffled groan and knelt on the ground, feeling blood on her hands from her back. 0

"Is there an exit ahead?" Lu Fei Fan caught up with her and supported Xia Qi, who was losing too much blood. 0

"Yes," Xia Qi replied through gritted teeth. She couldn't afford to think about anything else; she had to trust this man while forcing herself to stay conscious. 0

"Let's go." Lu Fei Fan helped her move forward as they walked through the narrow corridor. After about ten minutes, they reached an exit. He pushed it open, only to find that the exit was located beneath a wall. He stepped out first and then assisted Xia Qi in following him. 0

"Are you okay?" Lu Fei Fan looked at her, noticing her sweaty forehead and pale complexion. 0

"I'm... fine." She had just finished speaking when she suddenly stood up, only to feel the world spin around her before collapsing. Fortunately, he caught her just in time. Before she lost consciousness, she saw the fellow looking at her with a dreamy smile. Could it be... this fellow had feelings for her? 0

Oh no, she thought, before finally succumbing to unconsciousness. 0

As she drifted away, she felt someone removing her clothes. 0

"Don't... don't... stop... stop..." 0

She murmured in resistance, but those hands continued to deftly pull off her garments. 0

Lu Fei Fan watched the woman who lay there murmuring. He put down the scissors; if he didn’t use them to cut open her back, it would likely disturb the wound. He gazed at her flawless back, where a deep gash bled profusely. 0

What was worse was that as he removed the fabric from her back, he caught a glimpse of the alluring sight on her chest. Lu Fei Fan felt his blood rush to his head. Taking a deep breath, he tried to control himself and not lose focus. He turned around and grabbed a bottle of strong liquor from the table, then poured it over her back. 0

The woman let out a muffled groan. Lu Fei Fan then picked up a sterilized needle and thread and began to stitch up her wound with the precision of a skilled seamstress. As he sewed, she whimpered in pain and squirmed restlessly. 0

Lu Fei Fan had no choice but to frown and sit down on her hips to keep her still until he successfully closed the wound. 0

After finishing all of this, Lu Fei Fan finally took a deep breath, his body drenched in sweat. He discarded the bloody thread and slapped his hand against her shapely rear end beneath the skirt. 0

"That'll teach you not to be so unruly," he admonished. 0

The woman let out a soft sound, drifting into a deep sleep. 0

Lu Fei Fan picked up a syringe to extract antibiotics and administered an injection. Finally, it was over. 0

He decided to let her lie there, quietly falling asleep. Lu Fei Fan brought in hot water and gently wiped the bloodstains from her back. 0

Once everything was cleaned up, he softly covered her with a blanket. He took the bottle of strong liquor and gulped down several mouthfuls before stepping out of the room. He settled into the lounge area of the inn, propping his legs up on the coffee table, finding the most comfortable position, and then, aided by the alcohol, he dozed off, feeling somewhat weary. 0

In the darkness, a hand seized his throat, and a familiar figure emerged from the shadows. 0

Shui Que was smirking wickedly at him, her other hand suddenly rising to thrust toward his eye! 0

“Que!” 0

Lu Fei Fan shouted out and jolted awake. 0

When he came to his senses, he found Xia Qi standing before him in her pajamas, holding a delicate handgun aimed at him. This particular gun had only one bullet; it was likely something she had hidden away for herself—the Glory Bomb. 0

“If you’re going to shoot, please aim for my forehead. Don’t point that thing at my crotch.” 0

Xia Qi glared at him coldly. She had woken up to find her clothes changed. Even though this man had stitched up her wounds, she still felt humiliated by such a violation. Furious, she pointed the gun at this bastard, but he had the audacity to wake up and call out someone named “Que.” 0

Who on earth was Que? 0

What was worse was that he didn’t even beg for mercy under the threat of her gun! What a scoundrel. 0

“You… who are you?” Xia Qi managed to choke out after a long pause. 0

“A man,” Lu Fei Fan replied defiantly as he looked up at her. “A man who would have a normal reaction if your clothes were off.” 0

“You…” 0

Xia Qi felt an urge to pull the trigger but managed to hold herself back. 0

“Why do you want to save me?” she asked, struggling to maintain her composure. 0

“In this world, there is no love or hatred without reason. I might be saving you on a whim, or perhaps I have something to ask of you,” Lu Fei Fan replied, pulling a letter from his pocket and sliding it across the tea table towards her. 0

Xia Qi furrowed her brow as she looked at the name on the envelope, then asked suspiciously, “What makes you think I would help you?” 0

“You can read the contents of the letter before delivering it. I'm just tired and don’t want to meet the person mentioned in the letter myself. You’re a soldier; you should have the means to get it to them,” Lu Fei Fan said wearily. 0

Xia Qi holstered her gun, sat down, and opened the letter. She examined it for a while before putting it down and looking at Lu Fei Fan with surprise. 0

“Don’t ask me any questions; I won’t answer them. Those who know too much in this world often meet unfortunate ends. Also, I haven’t seen what’s written inside the envelope, so don’t tell me,” Lu Fei Fan explained. 0

“Aren’t you curious if the letter mentions you?” Xia Qi raised an eyebrow in response. 0

“All forms are illusions. If one sees that forms are not forms, they will see the truth. Does it really make a difference whether you know or not?” Lu Fei Fan turned to gaze out at the sunlight streaming through the window. Some people quietly fade away into darkness, while those who survive must continue to struggle in sunlight that no longer feels familiar. 0

“Alright, I’ll help you.” Xia Qi closed her eyes, her brows trembling slightly before she reached out to take the letter. For her, this letter might represent an opportunity. “But…” 0
