He was completely naked!
Where were his clothes?
Feeling a bit of a headache, as he pondered this predicament, countless fine threads began to seep from his back. In an instant, a white robe made of silk formed behind him, along with a pair of pants.
Lu Fei Fan turned around to gaze at this miraculous scene, momentarily stunned. Was there silk within him? What on earth was happening?
Not wanting to dwell on it too much, Lu Fei Fan donned the refreshing and flexible attire. Although the temperature in the cave was extremely low, he didn’t feel much cold; after all, he couldn’t just run around naked.
Once dressed, Lu Fei Fan took a closer look at his surroundings. A crystalline white light enveloped the cave, and a towering Ice Tree, reaching several dozen meters high, thrived magnificently. However, nearly a quarter of its leaves had fallen off—what could have caused this?
Could it be because of him? Lu Fei Fan instinctively touched his belly. He reached out and plucked a piece of ice leaf, biting into it. It was cool and sweet, melting instantly in his mouth. Threads of energy flowed through his taste buds and spread throughout his body.
This tree had such remarkable effects!
The fruits must be even better, he thought, and he picked several Ice Mulberry Spirit Fruits to eat. He couldn’t help but feel a bit dazed!
What a windfall!
Lu Fei Fan immediately got to work, harvesting the spirit fruits from the Ice Mulberry Spirit Tree. However, as he picked more than half of them, he sensed a resonance coming from the Ice Mulberry Silkworms.
He stopped his reckless harvesting as he clearly felt the tree's mournful tremor and heard the silkworms' cries of protest. It was evident that these two species had formed a biological contract through history.
Lu Fei Fan could distinctly sense the tree's sorrow and the silkworms' struggle; if he continued to harvest excessively, it would lead to mass death among the silkworms. After all, without sufficient food reserves, this species would face extinction.
No longer greedy, Lu Fei Fan jumped down to the base of the tree and pressed against the trunk. He connected with its energy flow; the cyclical energy emanated from the Ice Spirit Tree into him and back into the tree again. The leaves he had plucked began to regenerate rapidly, and countless Ice Mulberry Silkworms started to emit another kind of call—a joyful cheer that seemed like a hope for survival.
In an instant, another batch of Yun Can transformed into butterflies. Colorful Light Butterflies danced in swarms around the Ice Mulberry Spirit Tree and even around Lu Fei Fan in celebration of their newfound life.
Lu Fei Fan extended his hand, allowing several Clouded Sulphur Butterflies to land on his fingertips.
At that moment, Lu Fei Fan experienced a profound realization: the end of death is also a beginning of life.
The Clouded Sulphur Butterflies began to circle around the Ice Mulberry Spirit Tree that had nurtured them, as if bidding a final farewell. Eventually, they all flew out of the cave, heading towards the vast world outside, where danger or greater unknowns awaited them. Lu Fei Fan did not wish to speculate on what lay ahead.
He was unsure how he had arrived here, but one thing was certain: he had been revived by this Ice Mulberry Spirit Tree and granted a new lease on life.
With his hands clasped together in reverence, he bowed deeply to the Ice Spirit Tree that had saved him, filled with sincere gratitude.
To express gratitude to all things in this world was a reflection of the beauty of the king, and it would surely lead to the discovery of vast lands.
The night in the wilderness was as thick as the cloak of death, with cold winds blowing in from the ocean beyond the borders, carrying with them a stench of decay that swept across the island, amplifying its desolation.
A few solitary hills stood tall, enduring years of harsh winds and rain.
But on this night, they all proclaimed their collapse and shattering.
In the air, two figures intertwined and collided, occasionally bursting forth with intense energy flashes. The figures that were knocked away crashed down onto the hills like cannonballs, causing them to crumble with a thunderous sound.
One figure quickly soared up from the ruins, closely followed by another figure crashing down onto the ground.
More often than not, the two engaged in a fierce struggle that brought them crashing back down to earth; this was a life-and-death contest, a duel between Top War Generals.
Shui Que and Yu Lao faced each other. Yu Lao's eyes twitched slightly; he bore four or five wounds across his body and looked disheveled and weary. Initially, he had managed to gain an advantage thanks to his abilities, but trading injuries blow for blow had left him at a disadvantage. What infuriated him further was that he had expended too much Pulse Energy battling that scoundrel earlier.
Now, facing Shui Que felt beyond his capabilities; he could only rely on close combat and skillful maneuvers against her. However, his prized black Tie Sha had been bent after several heavy strikes from Shui Que.
Shui Que was not faring much better; her Qipao appeared tattered, revealing glimpses of her snow-white skin. Her long legs could have been enchanting, but a gruesome wound marred her thigh, bleeding profusely and staining much of her Qipao red. Her delicate feet stepped on the uneven stones with an air of vulnerability that tugged at one’s heartstrings.
Yu Lao glanced at the bloodstains on Shui Que's thigh and couldn't help but sneer.
"Hmph! At this rate, you won't need me to lift a finger; you will undoubtedly die!" Yu Lao seized the opportunity to undermine her morale as part of his psychological warfare.
However, Shui Que looked at him coldly, seemingly unfazed by the injury on her thigh. Her face was pale and she appeared utterly exhausted, but she was not yet at the point of collapsing.
“Are you not worried that the Fellow you sent away might be taken and eaten by the wild wolf monster?” Yu Lao once again provoked her with the mention of the missing Lu Fei Fan.
Shui Que fell silent. If she were to retreat at this moment, she would undoubtedly fall victim to his relentless pursuit, and she would be doomed. Not only her, but even Lu Fei Fan would likely have no hope of survival. So, Lu Fei Fan could only wish for the best.
Seeing that he had failed to gain any advantage in their verbal sparring twice, Yu Lao sneered coldly. He noticed Shui Que’s exhausted expression and wondered if throwing another mental bomb at her would bring her to the brink of collapse.
The thought excited him as he looked at her, a wicked thought rising in his mind but quickly vanishing from his eyes.
“Don’t you want to hear about the final fate of Berg after your raid on the base?” Yu Lao said calmly.
Shui Que suddenly froze, her eyes narrowing into sharp Blades, fixated on Yu Lao, wishing she could place two knives against this old man's throat.
“Hmph, the ending is quite interesting. After all, it’s a long night; why don’t we talk about how he met his end? It would be much better,” Yu Lao said smugly.
“Not interested!” Shui Que coldly rejected him, gathering the surrounding water and launching a water ball toward Yu Lao.
Yu Lao met her attack with a scowl. With a sweep of Tie Sha, a faint black light shattered the water ball into vapor, and then he charged angrily toward the approaching Shui Que.
The sounds of their combat echoed like drums and metal clashing across the wasteland.
During their exchange, Yu Lao did not miss a single opportunity to strike at Shui Que on a psychological level, laughing maniacally as he spoke to himself.
“Ha ha! Berg was ultimately killed by his own subordinates!”
“He ruthlessly devoured two of his own subordinates in front of those who once served him, and was beaten to death!”
“Don’t you feel pain for why he became a monster that is neither human nor ghost?”
“Everything he did was for you, wasn’t it?”
“If he hadn’t gone mad, he wouldn’t have died so tragically because of you!”
Every word from Yu Lao struck like a poisoned needle, piercing deep into Shui Que's heart and mind. The pain surged not only from the wounds but also radiated from her heart and brain, overwhelming her to the point where she could hardly breathe.
Bang!
Seizing the opportunity, Yu Lao delivered a swift kick to her abdomen, causing her to stagger back several steps and spit out a mouthful of crimson blood.
Yu Lao watched with satisfaction as the situation returned to one under his control.
Shui Que lifted her head, her eyes slightly hazy as she gazed at Yu Lao. His words did not seem like lies.
"Is he dead?" she asked.
Yu Lao paused, a mocking smile crossing his face as he candidly replied, "Yes."
Shui Que clutched her chest, an inexplicable pain blossoming there. Bowing her head, she managed a sorrowful smile and murmured something that Yu Lao, too far away, could not quite catch.
"Since you've accepted your fate, surrender willingly, and I will ease your suffering," Yu Lao said with an air of false compassion. He relished the thought of playing with such a delicate and beautiful woman; the pleasure it would bring him was indescribable.
The more he thought about it, the more excited he became.
Yet, to his surprise, Shui Que lowered her head and unleashed all her Pulse Energy!
Yu Lao was taken aback; he had expected this woman to lose her fighting spirit and give up. Was she truly willing to fight to the death? He tightened his grip on his weapon and watched indifferently.
Shui Que raised her head to look at him, two trails of tears marking her cheeks. Clutching her chest, the corner of her blood-stained mouth twitched into a faint smile.
Feeling something was off, Yu Lao instinctively took half a step back but quickly regained his composure. How could a desperate struggle be any match for him?
However, he ultimately underestimated Shui Que.
The Pulse Energy surrounding Shui Que swirled like a protective barrier, lifting the debris around her into the air as she began to float.
"You are seeking death!" Yu Lao looked at Shui Que, his disdain unmistakable.
Shui Que did not respond with words; instead, she answered him with action.
The blood from the wound on her thigh surged forth, forming a crimson stream that swirled around her like a frenzied Energy Shield—wild and chaotic, yet entirely under her control within the limits of her energy manipulation.
Yu Lao took a half step back, compelled to reassess this woman.
"You've lost your mind!" he said, his heart racing as he witnessed the scene. Using her own blood... he could hardly fathom it. And to draw so much of it—this woman must truly be insane!
Shui Que guided the dark red flow of energy towards Yu Lao, who continued to retreat. He thought that by exchanging injuries, he could gain an advantage, but a life-for-a-life battle was beyond his expectations!
He began to retreat rapidly.
Shui Que did not grant him that opportunity. She shifted from slow to fast, charging straight at him like a blood-red arrow aimed at the light of the earth's horizon.
That light was dawn, and it was also the blazing sun.
