After Lu Fei Fan led Da Fu Ge and the others out of the base, they arrived outside.
“Vice Captain, I’m going back to find the Captain. You all wait for us at the dock; Da Biao should be waiting for us there. I sent him a telegram earlier,” Lu Fei Fan said.
“I’ll go back with you,” Jiu Ye stepped forward.
“Me too,” Fu Qinqin also volunteered.
“I want to go back as well!” Jia Jia chimed in.
“No, I’ll go back alone,” Lu Fei Fan refused them.
“With so many people, it’ll be hard to slip away. It’s easier for me to go back by myself,” Lu Fei Fan said confidently. “Just give me your extra Energy Grenades.”
The others exchanged glances.
“Wait, are you saying we’re a burden?” Fu Qinqin asked, somewhat annoyed.
“Yes, having too many people is a burden. I’m not afraid of them alone, and my Sniper Rifle skills are better than yours,” Lu Fei Fan replied without giving her any face. “Besides, if things go wrong, I can fly away. With more people, if an emergency arises, I won’t be able to take you all with me.”
“Who needs you to take us?” Suma waved her hand dismissively.
“Haha. Sister Suma, you still have to take care of the families of those fallen teammates; you definitely can’t go! If something happens to you, they’ll be left completely helpless,” Lu Fei Fan seized on Suma’s vulnerability.
“You…” Suma found herself momentarily speechless. This fellow appeared carefree but was actually quite bold and meticulous.
“Just trust me this once, I will definitely bring the Captain back,” Lu Fei Fan assured everyone as he looked at them.
“Alright then,” Da Fu stepped forward, patting Lu Fei Fan on the shoulder and advising, “If something happens to the Captain… you need to prioritize your own safety.”
“Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing. If the Captain is in trouble, I’ll bring back his body even if it costs me my life.”
“Don’t be too reckless,” Jiu Ye said as he handed over his Hand Grenade, tossing two Landmines to Lu Fei Fan. He then grumbled, “Damn it, just because he can fly doesn’t make him special.”
Jia Jia handed over a well-wrapped package made of sheepskin.
Lu Fei Fan opened it to find twelve sharp silver throwing knives inserted inside. This was likely a gift from Jia Jia for him, but unfortunately, he hadn’t had many opportunities to use his throwing knives on this journey.
“Thanks,” Lu Fei Fan said gratefully as he accepted the package and placed it in his backpack. He then handed the bag of treasures to Da Fu Ge, who passed it on to Jiu Ye to carry.
Lu Fei Fan collected the Hand Grenades from everyone and secured the ‘You She’ sniper rifle and the ‘Silver Sparrow’ Zhan Dao on his back.
Once everything was organized, he looked at his comrades who had fought alongside him several times. Those simple moments of life and death had already forged a bond like that of brothers and sisters.
“Alright, I’m heading back!” Lu Fei Fan surveyed the group. Fu Qinqin seemed to be sulking with her back turned to him, but Lu Fei Fan didn’t dwell on it. He turned and made his way back toward the evacuation base.
As Lu Fei Fan disappeared into the darkness, Fu Qinqin finally turned to look at the distant base.
“Let’s go,” Da Fu Ge called out to everyone as they began to leave on foot. They couldn’t stay here for long; otherwise, if Lancer and his crew sensed something was off, they would send someone after them. The mobile unit would have no advantage against a group of people traveling on foot.
“Qin Qin, hurry up and catch up!”
In the cold wind of the night, the last remaining Fu Qinqin struggled against the gusts that obscured her vision. Finally, she had no choice but to retract her gaze and turn to run after the team ahead.
Lu Fei Fan, with his back to his teammates, hunched over like a nimble mole hidden in the darkness, weaving through the rocky expanse of the Gobi Desert.
Before long, he followed the gap that the Special Operations Team had used to exit and slipped into the base.
He quietly made his way to the garage. When no one was watching, he buried a landmine at the exit of the driveway and planted two more in the passageway of the base's vehicle fleet. These were gifts from Jiu Ye, intended to delay the enemy's escape. If the enemy realized they had fled, they would undoubtedly drive out in pursuit.
At that moment, those two landmines would prove invaluable. To enhance their effectiveness, Lu Fei Fan had even buried several hand grenades around each pressure-triggered landmine.
He navigated through an alley, rolling past a few patrolling guards, and stealthily entered the hospital through a window. Inside, it was eerily quiet with no one around.
He moved through the hospital corridor until he reached an area near the office building, where guards were stationed below.
Clearly, a direct assault was not an option.
Lu Fei Fan observed for a while and noticed that Lancer had emerged from the office. However, he was always accompanied by numerous guards, making it impossible for Lu Fei Fan to act. He could only activate his Pulse Breathing Technique and hide in a corner.
If they had captured their captain or done something else, they certainly wouldn’t leave him in the office area.
After some consideration, Lu Fei Fan decided to head to the holding cell where Qiu Fang was kept and try his luck there.
The cell was located in the southwest corner of the base, with guards huddled around a burning oil drum, roasting meat that sizzled and dripped grease above the flames.
One guard suddenly felt the urge to relieve himself. He grabbed his standard-issue rifle and headed toward the restroom. However, as he reached a dark corner, someone pulled him into the shadows.
The other guards laughed, oblivious to what was happening.
Just as one of them began to realize something was amiss and looked up in that direction, they saw their comrade seemingly returning, wrapped in a scarf. They didn’t notice that he had come back with an extra backpack.
The comrade approached the four guards by the oil drum, who were busy discussing adult jokes while spending money on women for entertainment. But when they noticed their comrade was unusually quiet compared to his usual self, he suddenly sprang into action!
With a swift motion—
In an instant, the comrade revealed a sharp dagger that pierced the necks and chests of three nearby guards, creating two or three bloody holes that gushed crimson. They hadn’t even had time to scream before they collapsed lifelessly. The fourth guard, wide-eyed and about to shout, was silenced as the dagger flew through the air and struck him in the forehead, killing him instantly.
He dragged the bodies into the dark corner and then took the keys to the cell door, opening it quietly and slipping inside.
Upon entering the cell, he was met with an unexpected sight!
The cell was filled with many people!
Among them were numerous injured individuals. He recognized several of them; most shockingly, many were subordinates of Berg!
Further into the cell, he spotted one person who was none other than Berg's deputy!
“How could this happen?” Lu Fei Fan couldn’t fathom why Berg’s subordinates were imprisoned here. Could it be that Lancer was an enemy of Berg?
After surveying the area, Lu Fei Fan found no sign of the cavalry. If they weren’t here, where could they be?
“Ambush!” someone shouted from outside.
Suddenly, the area outside the cell erupted with noise as many footsteps approached.
It seemed that the guards he had taken down at the entrance had been discovered.
Since they had been found out, he might as well make a scene!
Lu Fei Fan raised his standard-issue rifle and aimed at the locked door. Bang! Bang! Bang—
The lock shattered.
“Anyone who doesn’t want to die, follow me out!” Lu Fei Fan shouted to those inside the cell.
The prisoners exchanged glances, then rushed out. They were soldiers of Berg, well-trained and certainly not mercenaries. One of them asked Lu Fei Fan who he was. Lu Fei Fan simply stated that he was a mercenary here to rescue them. A few of the officers recognized him and didn’t press for more details; instead, they directed their comrades to find weapons.
“The armory is in the western corner,” Lu Fei Fan said, tossing a bag of hand grenades to one of the leading officers.
The officer glanced at Lu Fei Fan but didn’t thank him. Perhaps he realized that Lu Fei Fan was also using them for his own purposes. However, they were all in this together, determined to fight against their captors to the end.
A circle of soldiers gathered at the entrance of the cell, quickly setting up defensive positions.
But before they could finish, a dozen hand grenades were suddenly thrown out from the dark cell.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The soldiers surrounding the entrance were thrown into chaos, screaming as they were caught in the explosion.
Those who managed to react opened fire on the cell, a flurry of bullets lighting up the smoke like deadly beams of light, as people on both sides continued to fall under gunfire.
Before long, several figures burst out of the cell. They threw hand grenades toward the enemy positions but were also hit by bullets, sacrificing themselves to buy time for their comrades to break through.
The deafening explosions disrupted one corner of the cell.
The subsequent escapees picked up weapons from the fallen guards and began to fight their way out around the base, gunfire spreading throughout the area.
Boom!
The escaping personnel were seasoned soldiers. Armed with weapons, they matched the encircling troops in combat.
Under the command of several officers from the Skeleton Army, they quickly seized control of the arsenal.
Equipped with advanced firepower, these prisoners released by Lu Fei Fan transformed into a formidable fighting force, engaging in fierce urban warfare within the base.
Lu Fei Fan did not join them in the raid on Arsenal. After leading them to break out of the prison, everything was orchestrated by those few lieutenants. He had not expected that the commanding abilities of several lieutenants under Berg would be so impressive, matching those from Lancer, and even managing to break through towards the periphery of the base.
Taking advantage of the chaos engulfing the base, Lu Fei Fan slipped into the Experimental Building.
There were a few guards inside, whom he easily picked off with his Sniper Rifle. Amidst the sounds of gunfire and explosions throughout the base, who would notice that the guards in the laboratory had been taken out by a sniper?
With You She slung over his back, he drew out the Silver Sparrow War Blade and stealthily made his way into the laboratory.
However, upon entering, he found the lab eerily quiet under a greenish glow. Rows of Cultivation Liquid Tanks stood like upright duck eggs, each containing some experimental subjects—monsters and other entities that were hard to identify. What shocked Lu Fei Fan even more was that there were also human experimental subjects...
What kind of experiments were being conducted here?
He noticed a corner at the end of the laboratory still illuminated.
“Blood pressure?”
That was a man's voice Lu Fei Fan found very familiar!
“One hundred thirty!” a woman's voice replied.
“Heartbeat.”
“97.”
"Continue!"
Lu Fei Fan quietly approached, noticing several men and women in lab coats, wearing hoods and masks, gathered around a Surgical Table performing an operation.
Recognizing the lead surgeon among them, Lu Fei Fan stealthily moved closer, raising his large-caliber revolver, the Lie Hound, and pressing it against the back of the Chief Surgeon's head!
The Chief Surgeon froze for a moment, clearly sensing the gun pointed at him from behind.
The assistants on either side were startled by the masked Lu Fei Fan and instinctively stepped back.
"Don't move, or your brains will be splattered!"
Bang!
Lu Fei Fan fired a shot into the wall, creating a crater that sent the men and women assistants retreating in fear. The more malicious male assistants instantly lost their nerve.
Even the lead surgeon was momentarily stunned. He raised his head and put his hands up, still holding a bloody Syringe filled with an unknown orange liquid. Lu Fei Fan snatched the Syringe from him and tossed it aside.
"Get them out of here!"
He waved his hand, signaling the assistants to leave.
Those people fled as if granted a reprieve from death.
After everyone had left,
Lu Fei Fan raised his gun and said, "Tang Kede! I didn't expect you to still be alive!"
"Who are you?" Tang Kede couldn't remember who he was.
"Someone like me, how could Dr. Tang possibly remember?" Lu Fei Fan naturally wouldn't be foolish enough to reveal his name.
Tang Kede raised his hands, appearing quite honest.
"Since you know me, you should also recognize the person lying on the Surgical Table, right?"
With that, he suddenly yanked away the large white cloth covering the Surgical Table, exposing the person lying on it to Lu Fei Fan!
"This... this is!"
Lu Fei Fan's pupils dilated in shock, momentarily speechless!
