The dawn broke like a sharp blade of light, effortlessly slicing through the night and beginning to radiate its brilliance.
As the darkness faded, the world welcomed a new harbinger—white.
The bustling base still felt somewhat lifeless. Ren Dongchuan ordered the fallen soldiers to be buried in the resting ground behind the base. In that sandy, wind-swept camp, countless nameless warriors had already been laid to rest, forever fallen on this land.
Since Da Biao was able to get out of bed, he had been hobbling around the barracks with a cane. Although still a bit weak, most of the toxins in his body had been cleared away. However, the doctor advised him to rest. Due to the limited space in the Battlefield Hospital, he could only stay at the empty base camp, and others in similar situations were doing the same.
After yesterday's battle, he hadn’t slept well last night—his dreams were fragmented, often haunted by visions of his captain and comrades surrounded by countless ferocious beasts. Early in the morning, after having breakfast at the camp, he planned to find Lu Fei Fan for a chat and brought along a portion of breakfast for him. Although military rations weren’t particularly tasty, for soldiers who spent their lives on the move, it was already considered a delicacy.
Along the way, many people greeted Da Biao, indicating that he was well-liked among those in the barracks.
When he arrived at Lu Fei Fan's camp, he noticed an unusual silence; it made him worry. Could something have happened?
He slipped into the camp and found Lu Fei Fan sitting cross-legged on his bed, completely motionless—like a statue!
Feeling anxious, Da Biao quickly set down the breakfast and cautiously approached Lu Fei Fan with his cane. He reached out to check for breath near Lu Fei Fan's nose and swiftly pulled back!
The situation wasn’t as dire as he had feared; there was still a faint breath. But what could have caused this?
He hesitated about going outside but then turned back towards Lu Fei Fan. Raising his hand to shake him awake, he wondered if it might cause harm.
But there was no time for second-guessing; he decided to take the plunge!
Just as he reached out to wake him, a hand shot out and grasped his wrist!
Turning his head, Da Biao saw Suma, the captain of Bauhinia!
Da Biao was lost in thought when Suma raised a finger to signal for silence. Then Suma leaned in to look at Lu Fei Fan. After a moment's hesitation, he reached out and gently lifted Lu Fei Fan's eyelid with his thumb. What he saw next left both Suma and Da Biao in shock!
In Lu Fei Fan's eyes, which should have been black, there was instead an emptiness that resembled the vastness of the universe!
The two exchanged astonished glances before quickly retreating outside the Camp.
They had never encountered such a situation before; what on earth was happening?
After some discussion, Suma went to fetch the Military Doctor. The Military Doctor examined Lu Fei Fan thoroughly, checking him multiple times but finding nothing wrong. He shook his head in frustration, feeling helpless.
With no other options, Suma had to invite the Deputy Director of the Battlefield Hospital over. The Deputy Director also conducted an examination but arrived at the same conclusion as the Military Doctor.
Neither doctor could find any significant symptoms in Lu Fei Fan. In fact, even when someone tapped Lu Fei Fan on the shoulder, he did not wake up.
As news spread through the Camp about Lu Fei Fan falling into an unresponsive state, many soldiers who had fought alongside him felt a strong sense of concern. Those whom Lu Fei Fan had saved came to visit him without being invited.
Lu Fei Fan remained motionless like a clay statue, sitting there completely unaware of what was happening around him, as if he were an old monk in deep meditation.
The doctors discussed whether they should employ any methods to wake Lu Fei Fan up but ultimately concluded that it was best to maintain the status quo. His symptoms did not resemble those of someone injured in battle; if it were a matter of mental or spiritual damage, it was beyond their expertise to resolve.
And so time passed. Da Biao and Suma had no choice but to stay at the Camp, anxiously waiting.
In the night, after finishing his tasks, Ren Dongchuan even brought his aide to visit Lu Fei Fan. Throughout the visit, Ren Dongchuan said not a word, his brow furrowed in worry. Only his aide asked questions, and in the end, after instructing Da Biao and Suma to take good care of Lu Fei Fan, he had no further suggestions to offer.
Meanwhile, Tang Kede, having heard about Lu Fei Fan's strange condition, brought along a few researchers under the pretense of conducting a health check. However, Da Biao and Suma held no fondness for the lecherous Dr. Baldy, as many rumors surrounding Ren Dongchuan's aide's suicide pointed to this very man.
Thus, Da Biao and Suma declined Tang Kede's well-meaning offer, leaving him to shrug and depart with his companions.
Interestingly, Berg had not come to see Lu Fei Fan; perhaps it was because he had no connection with him or perhaps he simply lacked interest.
However, with the reduction in visitors, one particular guest surprised Suma greatly.
This person was the current commander of the base, General Niu Han.
He arrived with two disciples to check on Lu Fei Fan. After examining Lu Fei Fan's condition and channeling Pulse Energy into him for a test, he looked at Lu Fei Fan in shock, momentarily speechless.
After a long silence, he left without saying anything further.
He returned directly to the low lighthouse within the base, where Ren Dongchuan had already prepared tea and was waiting for him.
"How did it go?" Ren Dongchuan asked straightforwardly.
Niu Han shook his head. "I've never encountered anything like this in decades; it's too bizarre—truly too bizarre."
"Bizarre?" Ren Dongchuan couldn't help but feel curious.
“Hmm, I injected my Pulse Energy into his body to investigate what was happening inside him,” Niu Han said, downing a cup of tea in one gulp. After a moment of thought, he continued, “But as soon as my Pulse Energy entered his body, it felt like it had fallen into an abyss.”
“What do you mean?” Ren Dongchuan, who was not well-versed in cultivation matters, naturally did not understand what Niu Han was referring to.
“Let me put it this way,” Niu Han organized his thoughts and chose the simplest analogy. “Imagine I have a pebble in my hand, and I throw this pebble into a well—not a well, but rather a vast sea. The pebble sinks down and never reaches the bottom.”
“So his body is like a stagnant pool?” Ren Dongchuan grasped the key point.
“Yes, and no matter how much Pulse Energy I inject, it feels like it's being absorbed into an abyss,” Niu Han nodded, conveying the essence of his meaning.
“How could this happen? He seemed fine just yesterday…” Ren Dongchuan couldn’t hide his disappointment and felt a sense of loss.
“What? Are you…” Niu Han saw through Ren Dongchuan’s thoughts.
“It’s such a shame…” Ren Dongchuan could only lament.
“There’s nothing to be ashamed of. The Free Federation has many talented individuals; someone as ordinary as him isn’t worth much,” Niu Han said, moistening his dry lips as he prepared himself another cup of tea.
Ren Dongchuan refrained from commenting; he merely thought that if Lu Fei Fan worked under him, he might achieve greater things.
Suma and Da Biao were equally unsure of what to do; they had no choice but to wait.
In reality, outsiders were unaware of what had happened to Lu Fei Fan. That night during meditation, he naturally activated the Fu Mai Xi Shu. Unfortunately, a subtle and ethereal energy gradually led him into a strange state of consciousness without his awareness.
It was a world surrounded by water, where the underwater realm was as colorful as a fairy tale. Vibrant corals shone in brilliant hues, and schools of dazzling fish darted by. As he walked forward, he spotted someone meditating there. Lu Fei Fan pushed aside the coral that resembled bushes and approached, only to realize that he recognized this person!
“It’s you?”
The person opened her eyes after meditating and looked at Lu Fei Fan with a hint of surprise. “You…”
“I don’t know either,” Lu Fei Fan interrupted her, spreading his hands in explanation before sitting cross-legged in front of her.
“Where is this?” Lu Fei Fan asked.
She didn’t answer him but instead seemed curious. “Were you here last time too?”
“Last time?” Lu Fei Fan pondered. “I think I’ve been here before, but I didn’t come inside.”
“Then that whale must have been you,” she said confidently, looking at Lu Fei Fan.
“Whale?” Lu Fei Fan recalled for a moment and then nodded. “I really like those large marine mammals. Every time I see them in the vast ocean, I feel a sense of security.”
“And what else?” she asked.
“They can take us home,” Lu Fei Fan shrugged in response. “But there’s one place I can never return to. The people and the things there are something I can never reach again in this lifetime.”
“Why…” she said softly, “do you have reasons beyond your control as well?”
"Perhaps..." Lu Fei Fan recalled some memories from long ago, yet they remained as vivid as if they had happened yesterday. Time, however, had not been able to wash them away.
"Are you a Mind Weaver too?" she suddenly asked Lu Fei Fan.
"No," Lu Fei Fan denied.
"I think you are," she said, her gaze fixed firmly on him.
"Why do you think that?" Lu Fei Fan inquired.
"Because here, I can see it," she explained.
"What is your name?" Lu Fei Fan asked, looking at her seriously for the first time.
"Shui Que," she replied.
"Lu Fei Fan."
"What a strange name."
"That's not important."
"What is important?"
“Are you the Mind Weaver?”
“Yes.”
“Teach me.”
“Why should I teach you?”
“Because I will take you home.”
The two extended their hands, palms touching.
In the fairy tale world of flowing water surrounding them, a whirlpool of water began to swirl. Within the watery curtain, a massive whale glided gracefully alongside a group of variously shaped Water Spirits. Both the whale and the Water Spirits were composed entirely of pure Energy Form.
Lu Fei Fan and the Water Spirit sat facing each other, as the currents of water around them gradually stirred up an astonishing whirlpool in the dark void of their world. It was as if two windows had suddenly connected, unleashing an invisible force that coalesced into an incredible torrent, wrapping around everything it could reach.
This was an unprecedented Mind Storm.
