It was the mysterious woman in the black Hat Hood beside Berg!
She had a slender figure, standing alone before the swarm, proud and unafraid.
The Cockroach Beetles seemed to think that this human was insane for daring to challenge their authority. They immediately dove down like a dark cloud rolling in.
"Not good!" Suma shouted, starting to drag Lu Fei Fan back. She felt that there was no one who could stop that swarm!
As Lu Fei Fan retreated, he turned his head to take in the scene in mid-air, utterly shocked.
In the air, the swarm surged down like a dark tide, wanting to swallow her whole in an instant. But at that moment, she gently raised her hand, her delicate, pale fingers pushing forward in the air.
A massive amount of Pulse Energy surged forth from her palm!
Boom!
A tremendous sound erupted as if something had exploded. In an instant, a brilliant explosion of light burst forth, scattering dazzling sparks like stars!
Countless Cockroach Beetles fell like rain, their bodies crushed as if struck by a black dragon's head. After a portion of the swarm was annihilated, they began to retreat. In the air, after a chaotic scattering, they reformed into a frenzied swarm again. But before they could organize another attack,
Shui Que's palm exploded with dazzling light once more. Pure Pulse Energy swirled rapidly around her figure, crushing those reckless Cockroach Beetles that dared to charge at her into powder.
"This... this is..." Suma had somehow found her way beside Lu Fei Fan. Seeing the terrifying scene outside, she was momentarily stunned and at a loss for words.
Lu Fei Fan had seen such powerful Pulse Energy from a Fuser before; Thunder Jun's formidable strength had left an indelible impression on him.
"Mind Weaver!" Suma finally calmed down and said with a serious expression.
"Mind Weaver?" This was the first time Lu Fei Fan had heard this term, and he was eager to learn what it meant.
"Such individuals are rare gems among Fusers. Unlike ordinary Fusers who enhance their strength through Empowerment cultivation, Mind Weavers only need to have strong mental power; the stronger their mental power, the more potent their awakened Empowerment! Their combat styles can be whimsical—summoning winds and rains or moving mountains and seas. As long as they are strong enough and have sufficient time to accumulate Pulse Energy and enhance their mental abilities, their power will continuously grow!" Suma explained gravely.
After a moment, Suma continued.
"I've seen this kind of person once before, many years ago, when I was younger. He was a boy from my neighboring house. At that time, the Coastal Monster wreaked havoc on our village, leaving destruction in its wake. That boy's parents were killed by the monster, and suddenly he unleashed a terrifying power that allowed him to slay those beasts! Later, he was taken away by the Federal Legion."
With that, Suma turned around and solemnly warned.
"I suggest that if you encounter someone like that, either befriend them or avoid them entirely. Never become their enemy, or else..." Suma's words trailed off as she continued to gaze outside.
Lu Fei Fan pondered Suma's words while the battle in the air escalated to a fever pitch.
Shui Que was surrounded by a swirling shield of Pulse Energy, and all the Cockroach Beetles attempting to attack her up close were shredded to pieces by the terrifying light beams!
Even more ferocious was Shui Que's hand as she struck out violently; a massive orb of Pulse Energy exploded in mid-air like an electric ball, unleashing a distorted wave of lethal force that shattered everything around it!
Clusters of Cockroach Beetles plummeted down like rain, appearing from a distance as black dust scattering through the air.
This was the fighting style of the Mind Weaver—simple and brutal, without any frills. Of course, this ethereal combat method was far superior to Lu Fei Fan and Suma, who were struggling on foot. With her powerful Pulse Energy, Shui Que wreaked havoc on the Cockroach Beetles in mid-air.
"Should we go out and help?" Lu Fei Fan found an ammunition pack inside the building and loaded a magazine into his submachine gun, preparing himself for battle once more.
Suma furrowed her brow and thought for a moment before finally agreeing. She also replenished her ammunition; there were plenty of Energy Bullet cartridges scattered all over the place in this base—ammunition was the least valuable resource here.
Lu Fei Fan kicked open the door and rolled outside, with Suma following closely behind. The two charged into the air, firing wildly at the Cockroach Beetles attacking the buildings.
The remaining soldiers who had taken refuge inside saw Lu Fei Fan and Suma rushing out to help and began shooting from their positions as well. However, the battlefield's defenses had already collapsed; several nests of moving fortresses shot out Tentacles that dragged people straight from their shelters.
One soldier who had been with Lu Fei Fan in a trench screamed as he was rolled away by a nest's Tentacle. Lu Fei Fan roared in anger as he emptied his machine gun, but despite his frantic fire, he failed to hit the monster's Tentacle!
"Ah!"
Lu Fei Fan let out a furious shout, tossing aside his empty machine gun and drawing his Silver Sparrow War Blade from his back. He sprinted after the creature and grabbed a long spear from the ground as he passed by a trench.
"Come back!" Suma shouted from behind as she began firing her machine gun wildly to cover Lu Fei Fan.
Lu Fei Fan disregarded everything around him. After witnessing Shui Que's fierce battle, he felt an overwhelming surge of inspiration; he could not allow himself to be outdone, especially since that warrior had fought alongside him in the trenches. It was unthinkable for him to stand by and do nothing.
In an instant, three or four Tentacles shot toward him. He wielded the Silver Sparrow, summoning a swirling orb of Pulse Energy. With a series of clangs, he severed two or three Tentacles with his Zhan Dao, the splattering Emerald Green fluid vibrating from the impact, while the Pulse Energy instantly vaporized the Venom.
He let out a furious roar and charged forward, leaping from the trench. His spear exploded forth with a thunderous blast—boom!
The ground erupted in dust as his spear struck one of the Tentacles. However, when he landed and swung his Zhan Dao to cut through that Tentacle, he found that the warrior had already succumbed, frothing at the mouth and lifeless. Clutched tightly in his hand was a Hand Grenade, but sadly, the pin had not been pulled. It seemed that warrior had been waiting for Lu Fei Fan to fall into the Beast Nest's jaws before detonating the grenade.
Unfortunately, he did not survive long enough for that moment. Lu Fei Fan slowly rose to his feet, gripping the Silver Sparrow as he gazed at the snarling Beast Nest ahead. The surrounding warriors continued to fire at him amidst their relentless assault. Behind him, two groups of soldiers had climbed onto rooftops, one on each side, shouldering Rocket Launchers in preparation to eliminate these formidable mobile fortresses.
Lu Fei Fan began to move. A Scythe Beetle lunged at him, but he danced across the battlefield with Nine Palace Steps, his Silver Sparrow expertly severing limbs and piercing bellies of the approaching Scythe Beetles.
It seemed that the nest on the battlefield had become aware of how troublesome this human was; swarms of Scythe Beetles rushed toward him. Suma, who was providing cover fire from behind, could no longer support him effectively. Seeing Lu Fei Fan surrounded by a horde of Scythe Beetles made her furious; she shouted as she hefted her Machine Gun and attempted to push forward. Yet, Cockroach Beetles continued to suppress the crowd within the buildings, forcing them to rely on their positions for cover fire.
Whoosh—whoosh—
Two rockets were launched into the air, but before they could reach their target, Cockroach Beetles swarmed in with deafening roars.
A massive explosion lit up the sky as they burned brightly; although many Cockroach Beetles perished in the blast, it hardly made a difference as more emerged from the dark clouds above.
The situation for humanity was dire. If it weren't for Shui Que fiercely holding back the Cockroach Beetles in midair, humanity's base would have likely fallen by now. Most defensive positions had already been breached or destroyed by self-detonation.
As Lu Fei Fan charged toward a Meat Nest, he swung his Silver Sparrow with ferocity, slicing through four or five Tentacles before tossing several Hand Grenades—grape-like in appearance—into the gaping maw of the roaring Meat Nest.
The mobile fortress-like Meat Nest erupted in a tremendous explosion!
Chunks of flesh and torrents of black blood scattered everywhere. But when Lu Fei Fan regained his composure, he realized he had become heavily surrounded.
Yet what did it matter? He shook off the blood from his Silver Sparrow; even faced with encroaching Scythe Beetles closing in on him from all sides, he remained proud and unafraid.
Countless insects charged at him, and he boldly met them head-on!
Suddenly, invisible waves of energy descended, crashing down around Lu Fei Fan. The swarm of insects surrounding him was instantly obliterated, as the twisted and terrifying force cleared a space around him. Seizing the opportunity, Lu Fei Fan broke through, wielding his Zhan Dao to slice through several beetles attempting to block his path. He charged onto a high ground trench where three or four soldiers were still fighting valiantly.
As Lu Fei Fan gasped for breath, he glanced up at the sky. The woman floating above, engaged in fierce combat with the swarm, was the one who had saved him!
She was still battling the Cockroach Beetles in mid-air, though her energy was no longer as abundant and overwhelming as it had been at the start. The six rotating light bands that protected her figure had dwindled to four, clearly indicating a decline in her Pulse Energy.
This was not a favorable development for their situation. He looked around and saw that more Cockroach Beetles were continuously pouring out from the dark clouds above; there was definitely something suspicious going on within those clouds!
Lu Fei Fan sheathed his Zhan Dao behind him and searched through the chaotic battlefield until he found a standard Red Wolf Sniper Rifle. The barrel was still warm to the touch. In this frontline melee combat scenario, a sniper rifle was understandably less practical than submachine guns or machine guns, which explained why it had been discarded.
He opened a nearby ammunition box and found rows of sniper ammunition lying inside—red, blue, and black—each type possessing different capabilities!
Lu Fei Fan quickly grabbed a magazine and loaded it with ammunition, his hands moving so swiftly they seemed to blur. In less than a blink of an eye, he had loaded four or five magazines. He then inserted one into the Red Wolf Sniper Rifle, and the satisfying click of bullets sliding into the chamber ignited his fighting spirit!
Embracing the sniper rifle, he took aim from the high ground at the battlefield below, firing precise shots that explosively dismantled difficult nests or colossal creatures on the field!
The morale of the four soldiers holding their ground surged instantly as they roared with renewed vigor, pouring their firepower onto their foes. Each Light Bullet they fired claimed more of the monstrous insects from the battlefield!
In an instant, this high ground surrounded by enemies became a solid bastion against the relentless tide of insects!
