The firepower equipped on the trench could hardly suppress the advancing Beast Nest!
They were like a moving fortress, with tough skin and thick flesh. Ordinary Machine Guns merely ricocheted off them, while the heavy energy Machine Gun's large-caliber bullets could explode chunks of flesh, yet they howled and healed their wounds in an instant!
As they drew closer to the front lines, the Mortar Squad in the rear began loading Energy Cannon shells without hesitation!
Boom! Boom! Boom! The shells whistled overhead, crashing outside and exploding with a thunderous roar. Shrapnel sliced through the Tentacles, causing the Beast Nest to emit sharp, terrifying screams of pain!
Behind the base, the Missile Vehicle finished reloading and launched a second wave of Ballistic Missiles!
But just as the Ballistic Missiles ascended, a swarm of blood-red, dark brown flat flying Insects suddenly burst forth from the dust clouds!
They charged fearlessly toward the newly launched Ballistic Missiles!
Boom! Boom! Boom—
The Ballistic Missiles exploded in mid-air!
Countless insect wings fluttered down, along with disgusting green goo, as their bodies burned and fell toward the base.
This was not the end; it was just the beginning. They emerged from the dust clouds, blotting out the sun. They had wings and heads with eyes on them, and on either side were five or six Tentacles. The robust left side had six, while the weaker right side had five!
Their wings vibrated with a hissing sound as they swarmed together in the air, twisting and turning like a massive black serpent—agile and terrifying—before finally coalescing into a single mass that dove down!
“Cockroach Beetles!”
“Damn it! Anti-aircraft guns, fire now!”
“Watch above!”
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
The ground-based anti-aircraft guns began to rotate, and countless surface-to-air machine guns and artillery hidden around the base unleashed their firepower without restraint, sending a barrage of ammunition screaming into the sky!
When the airborne Cockroach Beetles were hit, they exploded in a shower of viscous liquid that splattered down. As it rained down on the soldiers below, they screamed in agony as the corrosive substance burned through their skin!
“Watch out! Their liquid is corrosive!”
“Activate the energy shield! Quickly open the base's energy shield!”
Someone shouted urgently.
Suddenly, in the sky above, four or five massive Giant Cockroach Mothers appeared amidst the Sha Wu clouds! They flew through the air with reckless abandon, each as large as an airplane, continuously laying eggs behind them. No, to be precise, they were deploying combat units. Wave after wave of Cockroach Beetles emerged from behind them, growing into full-sized adults in mere seconds after dropping from the sky!
This scene filled many on the ground with despair; for the first time in their lives, they faced such a colossal swarm attack!
Even many who had spent their lives as mercenaries had never encountered such a terrifying situation.
In the trench where Lu Fei Fan was stationed, the pressure was even greater. Not only did they have to contend with the Beast Nests capable of withstanding artillery fire, but they also had to guard against aerial assaults from the Cockroach Beetles!
Lu Fei Fan raised his Energy Gun and fired rapidly, accurately severing one of the nearest Beast Nest's tentacles. The injured Beast Nest roared in pain and lashed out at the ground with its remaining tentacles, but it was met with even more artillery fire, collapsing under the onslaught and being trampled by other advancing Beast Nests.
A chill breeze swept past him as Lu Fei Fan drew his Zhan Dao and swung it down!
With a swish, Silver Sparrow's sharp blade cleaved a Cockroach Beetle that had lunged at his back in half. The splattering green acid fell to the ground with a hiss, rising into white smoke upon contact.
Lu Fei Fan paid no mind to this; Silver Sparrow's dazzling blade remained largely unaffected by the acid. He sheathed Silver Sparrow behind him and rushed over to Suma's side. With a rapid series of gunfire, he unleashed a torrent of bullets that exploded several Cockroach Beetles mid-air as they swooped down toward them. Boom! Boom! Boom! The sound echoed as they detonated in the sky.
The nearby trenches had suffered nearly half their combat strength, and with the addition of the Cockroach Beetles, some of the Ground's fighters began to retreat. The Military Police quickly turned their guns on those fleeing the trenches, turning them into a swarm of bees. These were members of the Skeleton Legion, and they showed no mercy in their enforcement.
Two of the trenches were on the brink of collapse, and the first to flee were the Mercenaries. They were seasoned soldiers who had no real incentive to fight for such meaningless stakes. Faced with this overwhelming and terrifying assault, their instinct was to turn and run. Many of their comrades had already become meals for monsters at the start of the battle, and naturally, they did not wish to share that fate. Most of them had families waiting for them, so risking their lives was not a decision made lightly.
However, a Second Lieutenant from the Free Federation fought valiantly. Upon witnessing the first trench collapse, he immediately stood up and drew his Zhan Dao with a clang.
"Class Two and Class Three still alive, follow me!"
With that, he charged ahead. The Second Lieutenant had considerable combat experience; as several Tentacles shot towards him, he rolled to evade them and managed to slice off two in the process. Midway through, a few Cockroach Beetles flew at him, but he dispatched them with his Zhan Dao or his pistol.
The Federal Soldiers behind him were greatly encouraged. Although these soldiers were part of an Expeditionary Force, their discipline in battle was far superior to that of the Mercenaries.
Seeing their commander charge forward, they all jumped out of the trenches and rushed towards the first trench!
But the Beast Nest was already at the front of that trench. Several diving Cockroach Beetles swooped down, slashing with their blades. The sheer number overwhelmed any attempts by humans to block them; more Cockroach Beetles surged forward!
The soldiers opened fire, but several were pierced by the Beast Nest's Tentacles and dragged away. In those fleeting moments, they pulled off their Hand Grenades just before being sucked into the Beast Nest. As it consumed them from within, it exploded outward with a thunderous boom, engulfing one of the Beast Nests in flames.
The Second Lieutenant executed a series of tactical rolls until he reached the trench's edge. Several Cockroach Beetles charged down; explosions erupted mid-air as two made it into the trench. After a fierce struggle, silence fell.
After a moment, the Second Lieutenant stood up with smoke rising from one shoulder. He crawled in front of a Machine Gun and roared as he moved it to fire at the Beast Nests standing before him!
In the end, two Tentacles pierced him. Soldiers rushed forward and swung their blades to sever the Tentacles just in time to prevent him from being dragged away.
Quickly, another soldier took over the Machine Gun and continued firing while those who reached the trench began to establish a defensive position. When his comrades turned him over to complete their mission, half of his face had been burned away by Cockroach Beetles. As his friends called out to him, he closed his eyes forever.
Just as those Fortress Beast Nests approached the trench, an ironclad squad burst forth!
This is the Armor unit of the base! It is also the last Trump Card reserve force in Ren Dongchuan's hands, numbering only twenty.
Once they entered the battlefield, their high mobility allowed them to easily eliminate the Cockroach Beetle. They showed no fear of the Fortress Beast Nest's attacks, and even when a few armored warriors were grabbed by a Tentacle, they managed to break free unscathed from within the Beast Nest!
Equipped with Energy Blades, they could effortlessly slice through the thick Carapace and even the Tentacles!
However, five or six of them were still corroded by the acidic fluid of the Cockroach Beetle, ultimately pierced by the Tentacles of the Beast Nest, falling on the battlefield.
The Fortress Beast Nest began to retreat, with fewer than ten remaining. As the sandstorm subsided, a terrifying new wave of beasts surged forth from the distance!
They swept over the remaining Armored Warriors like a tsunami.
Among them was one that resembled a Bulldozer, sporting massive Pincer Antennae, its elongated body moving like an armored vehicle!
The two Pincer Antennae on its head could easily crush an Armored Warrior. Even more frightening were the Massive Beetles following closely behind, which gave Lu Fei Fan a sense of dread, being even more terrifying than the Cockroach Beetle, possessing formidable combat strength!
They had dark gray bodies, their limbs supporting them like a mantis, and their arms bore powerful Death Scythes!
Indeed, those were Death Scythes. Two of them could easily shred a person into pieces, and several warriors found themselves utterly defenseless against these Scythe Beetles.
Moreover, their numbers were overwhelming. However, their Carapace was quite fragile; bullets could easily break or wipe them out.
Yet, under the harassment of the Cockroach Beetle, the defensive firepower on the front lines had lost its initial impenetrable advantage. Now facing a massive assault from the Scythe Beetles, they charged forward without fear of death. Those who fell in front were trampled by their comrades as they pressed on, quickly overwhelming the first trench in less than ten minutes.
The soldiers in the second trench retreated to the fourth and fifth lines for defense. Beyond that point, they could only retreat into buildings to begin urban combat.
Lu Fei Fan maneuvered along the front lines, his Silver Sparrow striking out at intervals. His precise use of the Zhan Dao showcased his mastery of Military Combat Technique. Some warriors even witnessed how he boldly faced off against four or five Scythe Beetles at once!
Suma fired a few shots before changing her position, and she couldn't help but be amazed by Lu Fei Fan's superb knife skills.
"This guy... Ma Youcai has struck gold again this time!"
The trench was like a leaking dam, and Lu Fei Fan, along with several officers skilled in close combat, formed a coordinated assault team. They maneuvered through the most challenging gaps, using their Knife Technique in conjunction with the Lie Hound to take down the Scythe Beetles!
This scene did not escape the notice of Berg in the command room. Ren Dongchuan felt a pang of regret because his Trump Card Armor team had already been deployed. Even if they managed to withstand this attack, it would likely take a year or two for this base to recover.
Currently, the main force supporting the other three directions was Berg's elite troops. Although they were few in number, none of Berg's soldiers had acted as deserters so far, which was entirely different from Ren Dongchuan's gathered Mercenary forces.
"Who is this fellow?" Berg asked, turning his back to Ren Dongchuan.
"This is a newcomer from the Fei Hu Battle Team!" Ren Dongchuan replied calmly, lifting his head.
"A newcomer?" Berg raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Is he a Federal Soldier?"
"Well... I'm not sure," Ren Dongchuan said, puzzled by Berg's sudden question.
