Suma stormed up to the door of the Base Command Center, but the dutiful guard blocked her way. 0

"Step aside!" 0

"Sorry, but the Commander has ordered that no one can enter right now; there’s a meeting in progress." 0

"If you don’t let me through, I swear I’ll start shooting!" 0

"Apologies..." 0

Bang! Bang! 0

The sound of gunfire echoed outside, causing everyone inside the command center to stop. Ren Dongchuan, Berg, Tang Kede, and several other high-ranking officers were present, along with a few returning captains from the Special Operations Team. 0

With a loud crash, the door was kicked open. 0

Suma burst in, gun in hand, and slammed her pistol down onto the table where the sand table was set up. 0

"Ren Dongchuan!" 0

"Suma, what are you doing? Don’t you know the discipline of this base?" 0

Suma roared back, "To hell with discipline!" 0

Ren Dongchuan stared at the irrational woman before him, bewildered by why she was so furious after just returning to the base. 0

Lu Fei Fan quietly entered the command room amidst the crowd. He spotted a woman in the corner wearing a Hat Hood, who had been standing silently with her head down. 0

“If you have any objections to me, you can file a complaint with Military Law. If there’s nothing urgent, please leave immediately! We are conducting a military meeting,” Ren Dongchuan said coldly, staring at her. 0

“A military meeting? Hmph.” Suma looked at the sand table. “Are you planning to send another Special Operations Team out to carry out your so-called mission? No, it should be more accurately described as sending them to their deaths!” 0

“I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” Ren Dongchuan replied, his impatience growing as he looked at the woman. 0

“You know exactly what I’m talking about!” Suma roared. “Our team consists of seven people! Two are dead, and two are seriously injured! Yet you still expect us to undertake a Special Mission! We believed it, but this is undoubtedly a trap designed to lead us to our deaths!” 0

Ren Dongchuan furrowed his brow, about to respond when 6 Berg spoke up. 0

“Who is this?” 0

“I’m the Bauhinia Team Leader, sir,” Suma said, noticing that 6 Berg held a higher rank than Ren Dongchuan, which gave her a glimmer of hope. 0

“What’s your situation? Please explain in detail,” 6 Berg asked, tightening his brow as he pressed for answers. 0

Suma shot a glare at Ren Dongchuan before stepping up to the sand table and pointing at it. “My team received a Special Mission from Ren Dongchuan. We spent two days reaching the designated location, initially thinking it would be simple. We encountered some monster resistance along the way, but that was manageable. However, when we arrived at the mission intel location, we found ourselves surrounded by ferocious beasts. We had no choice but to retreat in disarray, and our team paid a heavy price for it!” 0

“Are you saying that Ren Dongchuan provided you with incorrect intel?” 6 Berg discerned the implication in Suma’s words. 0

“Yes! Those beasts seemed to have set a trap for us humans on purpose,” Suma said, her emotions flaring. “This isn’t a mission; it’s simply a slaughter!” 0

6 Berg nodded thoughtfully while Tang Kede listened intently, his eyes darting around as if deep in thought. 0

“How many combat teams have you dispatched for the mission?” Berg suddenly asked Ren Dongchuan. 0

“A total of thirteen teams, four of which have already been recalled,” Ren Dongchuan replied. 0

“Immediately issue an order to recall all those Special Operations Teams currently on missions,” Berg commanded. 0

“Yes,” Ren Dongchuan responded without any hesitation and promptly sent someone to carry out the order. 0

“The operational plan has changed. The base defense is now in Special Class readiness status! No personnel from the Special Operations Teams are allowed to leave without authorization!” Berg issued the command, then called out Suma, “You come with me to the office and give me a detailed report on the situation your Special Operations Team encountered.” 0

“Yes.” Suma finally regained some composure. She glanced at Ren Dongchuan but said nothing more. 0

The orders were quickly disseminated, and the entire base entered the highest level of Special Class readiness. All defensive weapons and detection instruments were activated, and those missile vehicles and ballistic missiles that had been stored in the warehouse were brought out and positioned in corners of the base, aimed at the sky or the ground. 0

After reporting to Berg’s office, Suma stepped out, appearing much calmer. However, just as she exited, a team member delivered some bad news: one of the two critically injured personnel being treated at the Battlefield Hospital had died despite efforts to save him. 0

This was a heavy blow for Suma’s Special Operations Team. It takes extensive training and experience in battle to cultivate a single team member; each one shares a bond forged in combat, and the loss of any one of them is a significant tragedy. 0

Suma then noticed Lu Fei Fan and walked over with a furrowed brow. 0

“Did your Special Operations Team also fall into an ambush? How is Lao Ma?” 0

“Sort of, but we had someone injured, so I was sent back to get help,” Lu Fei Fan replied. 0

“So you lost contact with them?” Suma frowned. 0

“Yes, when the sandstorm hit, we couldn’t reach them via radio,” Lu Fei Fan said helplessly. “I thought you would have received their communication.” 0

“We did make contact. In the midst of the ambush that our Special Operations Team encountered, we called for their support, but they never arrived. Later, when the sandstorm hit, we found a cave to take shelter in and didn’t return to base until the second day,” Suma explained. 0

“Don’t worry too much; your team will be fine. Lao Ma has extensive battlefield command experience and has faced worse situations than this. They’ll be okay,” Suma reassured Lu Fei Fan. 0

“That’s all I can do,” Lu Fei Fan shrugged. “But I plan to go look for them.” 0

“The situation outside is quite dangerous right now. I advise you not to go out alone,” Suma cautioned. “From the very beginning, I felt something was off about this mission. I didn’t expect it to turn out like this. It seems things are not as simple as we thought. The beasts that ambushed us have become very intelligent; they’ve even evolved overnight to develop blast-resistant Carapace against our ammunition and grenades. This is something I’ve never seen before!” 0

“You mean… these mutated beasts have an intelligent population?” Lu Fei Fan was taken aback. 0

“There’s nothing unusual about that; intelligent populations have always existed. It’s just that I feel this time the evolution of these beasts has deviated from natural norms, as if… it’s caused by some external factor,” Suma speculated. “Anyway, I need to check on my team members now. We can talk more later if anything comes up.” 0

With that, Suma left with his team. 0

Lu Fei Fan pondered for a moment but decided to head to the communications department to continue contacting their captain. The situation outside was perilous, and aimlessly searching for them wouldn’t help. 0

In Berg's office, Tang Kede had set up a detailed topographical sand table, marking the monster groups in this island region. 0

“According to what that captain just said, it seems these creatures are growing!” Berg remarked as he studied the sand table. 0

“Yeah, this is a bit unexpected for me. However, the territorial divisions among several groups are still too far apart; it’s hard to predict what kind of chemical reactions might occur between them,” Tang Kede said with an air of anticipation. “Let them deal with their own kind; I’m quite curious about the outcome.” 0

“But based on the current situation, we haven’t seen the expected results yet,” Berg replied impatiently. 0

“Scientific experiments always require time and patience. At least our progress is much faster than the other two teams,” Tang Kede said confidently. “Also, tonight we can deploy the sixth generation ‘seeds’ externally!” 0

“No, let’s observe the situation outside for a while longer before deciding. Alright, you can go back to your work now,” Berg waved his hand dismissively, signaling Tang Kede to get back to his tasks. 0

Tang Kede turned and walked out, encountering the hooded Shui Que in the corridor. Even though this person was completely shrouded in the Hat Hood robe, Tang Kede felt no desire whatsoever; he was deeply wary of Shui Que. Thus, he brushed past without a glance, while Shui Que deliberately turned to take a look at the lecherous doctor known as the Bald Man before entering 6 Berg's office. 0

"Hmm? What brings you here?" 6 Berg was somewhat surprised by Shui Que's visit. 0

"Just came to check things out," Shui Que said, glancing at the layout on the map. "Has anything happened?" 0

"Not for now," 6 Berg replied. 0

"I don't quite trust that Tang Kede," Shui Que stated bluntly. 0

"This mission is beyond our control; we have no choice," 6 Berg said with a hint of resignation. "If I complete this mission, I might get recommended for a position in the Main Force Corps next year." 0

"Power can blind you," Shui Que said wearily. 0

"I'm doing this for you," 6 Berg insisted. "If I can't meet your father's expectations next year, our marriage won't stand a chance with him." 0

"I don't like this side of you, Berg. Even if you were to elope with me, I would go with you, but this..." Shui Que hesitated, wanting to say more. 0

"I know, but I can't bear the thought of you being exiled with me. I just want to work hard to give you a better life," 6 Berg explained. 0

"What I want isn't that. If this continues, we'll both become something else entirely, just like the world outside," Shui Que thought to herself but kept it buried deep inside. 0

6 Berg sighed and knelt before Shui Que, taking her delicate hand in his and kissing it gently with his eyes closed before looking up at her. 0

"I'm sorry; it's my fault for bringing you here. But I can't leave you; every moment I'm away from you makes me miss you even more," 6 Berg said earnestly. 0

Shui Que gazed at the handsome man before her and withdrew her hand with a sigh. 0

"I’m tired. I’m going back to my room to rest." With that, Shui Que turned and left the room, her face showing signs of exhaustion. 0

Berg knelt on the ground, watching her leave. After a long while, he finally stood up and gazed out at the world outside, his jaw clenched tightly, a sudden tension evident on his face. He then rang a bell to summon his aide and instructed him to bring Tang Kede back. 0

After a little over ten minutes, Tang Kede arrived, wearing glasses and gloves, clearly in work mode. He looked at Berg with a puzzled expression. 0

"What’s wrong?" 0

"Your seeds... let’s deploy them tonight!" Berg replied, turning his head away from him to look outside. 0

"Ah?" Tang Kede was taken aback for a moment before realizing what was happening. "Great! I’ll go execute it right away." 0

Berg waved his hand dismissively, slumping onto the sofa, not wanting to speak any further. 0

After a long silence, he murmured softly to himself, "The outside world is cruel; what does it matter to me? I only want my own world." 0
