In the Holy Scriptures of the Alliance Empire, a widely circulated passage from the Revelation provides a detailed description of winged beings.
They are tall, extraordinary, and divine, even immortal, wielding spears of light and swords of holy fire. They possess remarkable wisdom and bodies as light as air. When they take on human form, they have one or three pairs of sacred Feathered Wings that allow them to soar freely, symbolizing their elevated status.
To the faithful on Earth, these winged beings represent righteousness, kindness, bravery, and loyalty.
They are also the messengers of the Supreme Deity's will, sent by the gods to protect believers from demonic disturbances. They serve as overseers of humanity and faithful recorders of all human actions. They are powerful warriors against the enemies of the Divine Kingdom and act as sharp spears and sturdy shields in the hands of the gods.
To enable them to spread the divine will swiftly and adaptively across every corner of the world while upholding divine authority, the gods bestowed upon them not only Feathered Wings for flight but also boundless strength.
However, their overwhelming power led some among them to develop an inflated sense of self-consciousness, believing they could replace the gods. This resulted in a monumental war between good and evil, culminating in the downfall of those with treacherous thoughts, who fell into hell and became part of the demons. They are referred to as Fallen Messengers or Fallen Ones.
Dr. Tu is not a pure believer in the holy teachings, but having read Revelation, he is familiar with that celebrated history and can imagine what a being with pure white Feathered Wings would look like. Yet, he has never seen a human with both black and white Feathered Wings until now!
Lu Fei Fan is blissfully unaware that behind him, Xiu Kui and Dr. Tu are staring at him in shock. He simply feels an overwhelming urge to soar into the sky! Ultimately, he suppresses that impulse and swiftly retracts his black and white wings.
When he turns around, he sees Dr. Tu and Xiu Kui looking at him as if he were a monster. It takes them a moment to regain their composure.
"Congratulations on passing the test," Dr. Tu says awkwardly while extending his hand in congratulations.
"Thank you." Lu Fei Fan ignores his outstretched hand because hidden beneath that sleeve is a retractable needle; if he grasps it, he would fall unconscious.
Not acknowledging Dr. Tu's awkwardness seems to make him realize his trick has been seen through. He turns his wheelchair around and sits beside Xiu Kui in the underground laboratory, watching Lu Fei Fan walk toward the elevator.
Lu Fei Fan pulls up the Gate and expressionlessly presses the up button. The elevator starts with a clank and ascends for several minutes before stopping at the ground level exit.
Stepping out of the empty maintenance shop, Lu Fei Fan finds himself bathed in golden sunlight as it descends towards the horizon, casting warm rays across the sea's surface that shimmer brilliantly.
Suddenly, for some reason, his Feathered Wings sprout from his back again. He crouches slightly and then leaps into the air with great force; his Black and White Wings flap vigorously as he ascends.
A neighbor uncle from next door steps out just in time to see a bird-man take flight. He is momentarily stunned before rushing back into his house in a panic, shouting frantically.
“Wife, wife, I saw a deity! I really saw a deity!”
“Look at you! Have you been drinking again? If you keep this up, I’ll have to teach you a lesson!”
“Oh come on, don’t twist my ear! I swear I haven’t had a drop! By the way, when did you change your slippers to wooden ones? Ouch, I’m sorry! I promise I won’t drink again…”
Meanwhile, Lu Fei Fan was soaring straight into the sky, completely oblivious to this little drama. He felt himself shooting up into the clouds, his wings eager to take him higher and higher until he could barely breathe before finally stopping.
He flapped his Feathered Wings gently and hovered momentarily in mid-air, gazing at the magnificent scenery before him.
The endless sky stretched out in a brilliant blue expanse, while beneath him, billowing clouds floated like a tapestry. Rays of sunlight pierced through from the Sea Surface, creating an incredibly divine atmosphere.
Taking a deep breath, Lu Fei Fan spun around and began to plummet. After free-falling for several hundred meters, he suddenly spread his Feathered Wings wide. The rush of air lifted him up as the buildings, factories, grassy fields, and wilderness below receded like a beautiful painting sliding past.
This was what it felt like to look down at the earth from above.
There was also the ocean. With a few swift maneuvers and powerful flaps of his Feathered Wings, he tried to gain altitude, not wanting anyone below to spot him. Soon enough, he flew beyond the island and glided over the Sea Surface. Flocks of birds soared past him, mistaking him for one of their own. He could even see schools of fish darting through the water below and massive sea beasts lurking beneath the waves.
In a playful mood, he skimmed just above the Sea Surface, creating long ripples that trailed behind him. Unfortunately, a gigantic creature suddenly lunged from the water in an attempt to snap at him. Thankfully, he dodged just in time, breaking out in a cold sweat. It seemed that the Sea Surface wasn’t entirely safe after all. So he ascended higher once more and flew erratically up and down until he finally figured out his direction and decided it was time to head home.
At least this trip had been worth it; his pair of Feathered Wings granted him the ability to fly. Even if he couldn’t defeat others in combat, he could always escape with confidence!
…
At that moment, Hua Jun Tang was rushing towards the city center in a sweat because he had arranged to meet Brother Liu, Da Wen, and Wang Shu (formerly Director Wang) at a restaurant for business discussions. In his pocket was a Federal Bank card loaded with one million dollars—money that Lu Fei Fan had given him earlier that morning to help register their company and handle all necessary paperwork.
Fortunately, the Free Federation had relatively loose regulations regarding entrepreneurship. As long as one paid the fees and wasn’t involved in illegal activities, they generally approved various processes without much hassle. The efficiency was also thanks to the current Virtual Network of the Free Federation; as long as your company registration information was correct, there wouldn’t be any significant obstacles.
When Hua Jun Tang stormed into the restaurant, Da Wen, Lao Liu, and Wang Shu had already been waiting for quite some time. Seeing Hua Jun Tang drenched in sweat, they quickly ushered him to sit down and poured two glasses of water. After gulping down his drink, Hua Jun Tang placed the registered company documents on the table for everyone to see—this was the result of his efforts and certainly good news.
A few people exchanged excited glances among themselves.
“It’s like this: my brother and I are currently in charge of the company, but since I don’t have much experience, we’ve decided to offer each of you ten percent of the shares,” Hua Jun Tang said, wiping the sweat from his forehead. He then pulled out a stack of contracts and distributed them for everyone to review.
The group was momentarily stunned.
For a company like this to offer ten percent of the shares was almost unbelievable to them.
“There’s no need for any objections. Just sign the contracts, and they’ll take effect. Future profits will be distributed according to your shares,” Hua Jun Tang explained simply.
Da Wen didn’t hesitate and signed right away, while Wang Shu and Lao Liu exchanged glances, hesitating a bit.
“Isn’t this… a bit unnecessary?” Lao Liu voiced what both of them were thinking.
“It’s not unnecessary; it’s essential. Many hands make light work. My individual strength is limited, but if several people work together in a startup, it will be much easier to succeed. Besides the shares, everyone will also receive a salary, which is detailed in the contract you just reviewed. Take a good look at it; if you’re not satisfied, I can adjust it next month,” Hua Jun Tang explained, noting that these were instructions given to him by Lu Fei Fan.
To bring a group together to accomplish something, it was crucial to stabilize their trust; a clenched fist packs more power than a single finger.
Wang Shu and Lao Liu carefully examined the contract again. Finally, Wang Shu sighed and said, “After working for so many years, this is the first time I’ve encountered such a boss. It would be foolish not to sign. However, since the company is still in its early stages, I’ll reduce my salary by one-third.” He crossed out the original figure on the contract and wrote in a new number reflecting the reduced salary before signing.
“Alright then. I’ll also reduce my salary by one-third,” Brother Liu said upon seeing Wang Shu’s willingness to compromise; he followed suit and adjusted his salary as well.
Hua Jun Tang didn’t stop them; once the company was up and running smoothly, he could always adjust their salaries back up.
After they signed the contracts, they were effectively on the same team. Importantly, Da Wen had found three storefronts in the city with decent foot traffic that afternoon. Coincidentally, one of them was vacated by a Car Beauty Company. The rent was slightly high at thirty-one thousand per month, but the location was excellent—right in a commercial area surrounded by upscale neighborhoods and numerous businesses—ensuring they wouldn’t lack customers.
After discussing with Lao Liu and Wang Shu, they decided to go ahead and rent it.
That evening, they went to negotiate with the property company for the storefront. Within half an hour, Hua Jun Tang had signed a six-month lease agreement with the property company that included an option for renewal at no increase in rent.
After the venue was confirmed, the three of them took advantage of the night to check it out. It was indeed excellent, and all four were very satisfied. They decided to wait for the car detailing service to move out before they could start. They even assigned tasks for the next day: Da Wen and Wang Shu would go to the used car market to find a few good cars, and Hua Jun Tang gave them three hundred thousand.
Hua Jun Tang planned to go with Lao Liu to the talent market to recruit four or five delivery personnel.
Everything was progressing in an orderly manner. Lu Fei Fan didn't expect his brother's entrepreneurial venture to go so smoothly. When Hua Jun Tang returned home after a busy day, Lu Fei Fan was already in an apron, bringing out several plates of food from the kitchen. Their mother was serving rice, waiting for him to eat.
He walked over to help with the dishes, eager to share his thoughts with his older brother. For the first time, Lu Fei Fan noticed how full of energy his younger brother was. While eating, he listened attentively and occasionally offered some constructive suggestions. Their mother shook her head, too lazy to pay attention to the two brothers. After dinner, she initially planned to go to the hospital to keep vigil for their father but was persuaded by Lu Fei Fan to rest at home instead.
Time flowed like water, and before they knew it, Lu Fei Fan spent his days accompanying his mother while shopping for groceries and cooking, helping his father in the hospital with body care, assisting doctors with examinations and massages, and offering many suggestions and plans to his busy and motivated younger brother.
A week passed, and their peaceful life came to an end when a group of Free Federation soldiers personally delivered the Fuser certification and access pass.
On the afternoon after receiving the Fuser certification, he welcomed two special guests.
One was Chang Wu, an officer from the Free Federation Army whom he had met before.
The other was a stranger he had never encountered before—the captain of the Fei Hu Battle Team, Ma Youcai.
Lu Fei Fan faced not just two unfamiliar guests but a vast journey that lay open before him.
