Time serves as both the criterion for the arrival of life and the decree of death for all things in the world.
Waiting is like a sharp sword, constantly swinging to cut away the exceedingly long moments, making them feel fleeting. When they finally wear away, the things awaited with reverence may also be met with an unfortunate beginning.
Hua Jun Tang had been bound to the flagpole for two hours, yet there was still no sign of being untied. The Police Officer had repeatedly communicated with the young man in a suit, but in the end, he still refused to release him. The Police Officer even drew his gun, attempting to force his way in, but to his surprise, the young man showed no fear.
The security personnel of the district were the first to approach and advised the Police Officer against violating regulations in this area. The Emerald District was home to the families of Fusers, and any use of force required approval from both the Disciplinary Committee and the Armed Committee of the Free Federation.
Although these two applications were not difficult to file and could potentially be resolved in half an hour, for Hua Jun Tang, Da Wen, and Supervisor Wang—those who had just been beaten—it felt like a torturous punishment of time.
The young man in the suit was named Li Qing. His parents were well-known merchants in the Emerald District, and most residents were aware of this arrogant young master who had offended many people in the area. However, they dared not voice their anger because everyone knew that Li Qing was notorious for holding grudges and retaliating against those who crossed him.
Moreover, his grandfather was a retired general. Although retired, within the complex web of relationships in the Free Federation Army, such influential figures were not to be trifled with. This was especially true for those living in the Emerald District, where many sought to curry favor with Li Qing's family.
This background fostered Li Qing's unique arrogance; anyone who dared to oppose him faced dire consequences. Naturally, conflicts led to longstanding feuds. Both Li Qing's father and grandfather had made numerous enemies, resulting in many attempts on his life that ultimately failed. His grandfather had used connections to hire several retired Fu Elite warriors who eliminated those assassins and even uprooted the forces behind them that sought to kill the Li Family.
Since then, Li Qing had been surrounded by a dozen bodyguards. With his grandfather’s influence backing him, he showed no respect for the Police Officer. The Police Officer named Uncle Lei had already called for backup; it was uncertain how long this would take, but it was better than watching things escalate.
After waiting for a long time, Li Qing seemed somewhat impatient as he stood up and began pacing. Initially calm, he eventually looked at Hua Jun Tang and recalled his newly customized limited edition golden VIP head-mounted device that had just been smashed by two poor workers. More importantly, he hadn’t insured it; there were only twenty units across the entire Free Federation—this wasn’t just a matter of money.
Li Qing walked up to Hua Jun Tang, looking down from his elevated position at the young man kneeling on the ground with his hands bound behind him.
“It’s not that I’m unwilling to give you a chance,” Li Qing said with a playful smile creeping onto his lips. “I’m in a good mood today, but you’ve all stirred things up. However, I’m not unreasonable.”
“There’s always room for negotiation; just let us go and we can discuss anything,” Supervisor Wang quickly interjected.
Li Qing raised his foot and kicked Supervisor Wang squarely in the face with a loud thud. Wang tilted his head back as blood sprayed from his nose, accompanied by a tooth that flew out of his mouth.
This kick sent Supervisor Wang reeling back, blood dripping from his head; it was unclear whether he had lost consciousness or worse.
Da Wen was startled by the kick, but Hua Jun Tang, observing the scene unfold with the Playboy, noted that despite his clean white attire and neatly tailored suit, there lurked a devil with a heart as cruel as poison.
"What do you want?" Hua Jun Tang asked him calmly, lifting his head.
In that moment, their eyes met. Unfortunately for Li Qing, what he saw was not fear or terror, but anger and sharp hatred. This caught him off guard and filled him with rage. With a heavy heart, he crouched down and casually patted Hua Jun Tang on the shoulder.
"I don't want much; I just want your whole family to kneel and apologize to me! And then compensate me for my VIP golden headgear brain device," Li Qing said, his tone aggressive and unyielding.
Hua Jun Tang spat, accurately hitting that clean face with saliva. The latter instinctively turned his head to avoid it, but the spit still landed on his face, leaving him pale and distressed.
The bodyguard who had been standing nearby immediately pulled out a tissue and handed it over. Li Qing, trembling with anger, took the tissue to wipe his face clean before raising his polished shoe to kick Hua Jun Tang squarely in the face.
Hua Jun Tang let out a muffled groan but endured the blow. Blood continued to seep from his split lip, and eventually, he couldn't help but spit again, this time directly onto Li Qing's white suit pants, staining them with bright red spots. This act only fueled Li Qing's fury further.
"I just bought this suit!!!" Li Qing shouted in frustration, lifting his foot again to prepare for another kick.
With half of his cheek swollen, Hua Jun Tang looked up at the raised foot casting a shadow over his face. Yet that shadow could not conceal the mocking smile on his lips; even with a bruised face, he refused to show weakness or admit fault.
Li Qing's anger intensified at the sight of that mocking expression. With a roar that echoed like thunder, he summoned all his strength and kicked down hard, determined to smash the face that dared to mock him in order to quell the raging fire of fury within.
But just as his foot was about to land firmly, a hand clamped down on it like an iron pincer. The grip tightened around his leg as if it were an unyielding vice. He distinctly heard the sound of his ankle snapping under the pressure!
"Ow!" Li Qing howled in agony as he cradled his foot, tears streaming down his face while he screamed in pain. Snot and tears flew from him as his expression twisted in torment.
Only then did the bodyguards react, glancing at their injured master in disbelief—had someone actually harmed him?
They turned their gaze toward the assailant: a person dressed in a plain jacket that looked somewhat tattered and worn. His combat camouflage pants were obviously cheap and showed no signs of nobility. The only thing that stood out was his relatively handsome face and disheveled appearance that exuded an air of defiance.
"Who dares to kick my brother in the face in front of me? I'll make sure he breaks a leg!" Lu Fei Fan glared fiercely at the bodyguards who were stunned and staring at him, his gaze finally landing on Li Qing, who was curled up in a bodyguard's arms, crying and wailing. This warning was clearly directed at him.
But Li Qing was too distraught to heed such threats; he couldn't even comprehend how this young man, who seemed only a few years older than himself, had suddenly appeared here.
"Kill him! Kill him!" Li Qing screamed through his tears, clutching his broken foot. "My foot! My foot!"
In an instant, a dozen bodyguards surged forward, surrounding Lu Fei Fan.
"Brother." Hua Jun Tang shook his head a couple of times, regaining some clarity. He looked at the person standing before him and then at the bodyguards surrounding them. These bodyguards were pulling out sharp daggers from their jackets, legs, and waists. They were no rookies; they had seen blood and knew that Lu Fei Fan was not someone to be trifled with. Thus, they all drew their weapons more cautiously.
"It's okay. Mom is waiting for you to come home for dinner tonight," Lu Fei Fan said as he turned to look at his younger brother, who had lost quite a bit of weight. He would never allow anyone to bully his brother, just as he had always protected him during fights.
Suddenly!
One of the bodyguards shouted angrily and charged forward with a dagger raised. Three or four of them attacked simultaneously from all directions, daggers aimed at Lu Fei Fan.
Lu Fei Fan glanced down at the feet exposed on the ground. He stepped on them one by one with a swift motion, crushing them underfoot. A sudden urge to laugh struck him because this move resembled something out of the movie "Kung Fu" he had seen in his past life. Following that, those attackers were met with fists that struck them like precision cannonballs, landing squarely on their faces.
The attackers grunted and fell backward, while more bodyguards who had been waiting in the wings rushed in. In the chaos of the fight, Lu Fei Fan moved with ease. Initially worried were Hua Jun Tang and his colleague Da Wen, but as they watched Lu Fei Fan land each punch cleanly and directly hit vital points—taking out those bodyguards with a single blow—they finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Li Qing never imagined he had kicked a steel plate; things were far from over. Lu Fei Fan was still dealing with the onlookers when those bodyguards blocking the crowd also pulled out electric batons and charged forward. But two figures burst through the crowd like gods of destruction.
With great strength, they grabbed two bodyguards like human sandbags and began to pummel them mercilessly against each other and even slammed them into walls until they were nearly incapacitated.
A Teng was even more ruthless; wielding a steel pipe, he darted behind the bodyguards with incredible speed. One by one, he struck them down as if playing whack-a-mole, showing no mercy whatsoever.
In just a short moment, the twenty or so bodyguards that Li Qing had summoned lay scattered on the ground. The crowd around them watched in fascination; no one intervened. Many were eager to see Li Qing's humiliation after kicking against an iron wall—after all, it was rare to witness this Young Master getting his comeuppance.
Li Qing lay in the arms of one of the bodyguards, leaving the two bodyguards stunned.
Suppressing the pain, Li Qing hurriedly instructed, "Quick, call Li Shu."
One of the bodyguards quickly pulled out his communication device and dialed a number.
Lu Fei Fan ignored him and turned to untie his brother. Da Li also came over to help free the others. Meanwhile, A Teng wielded a metal pipe, striking down on those bodyguards who had just managed to get up, causing them to cry out in pain. He cursed under his breath.
"Look at you acting all tough! You're so impressive!"
With a thud, he swung again.
In the crowd, Police Officer Uncle Lei squeezed in with two other officers, quickly working to maintain order. Seeing the bodyguards groaning in pain on the ground brought him a sense of satisfaction, but for the sake of fairness, he symbolically warned Lu Fei Fan.
"Now, hitting people is not right. You all need to come back with me to the station to give statements!"
"Who dares to leave!"
At that moment, a deep voice boomed from above like a drumbeat.
