"People are always changed by the currents of time, forgetting some things while remembering others," Mei San Shao said, pulling Lu Fei Fan back from his endless thoughts. 0

"Isn't that so?" Mei San Shao asked again. 0

Lu Fei Fan was still savoring the meaning of those words and did not respond. Mei San Shao did not press further; instead, he hummed a tune while adding more firewood to the already roaring flames, eager to make it burn even higher. 0

Before long, Mei San Shao's female companion, Hu Tian Er, returned from the woods. She was carrying three wild rabbits in her hands, along with two unknown wild birds and a bundle of leaves cradling some unfamiliar green fruits. 0

It seemed that Mei San Shao and the girl were quite hungry; she casually bit into a few of the wild fruits. With the swift movements of her two daggers, she effortlessly skinned and gutted the game they had brought back. Lu Fei Fan could see that this seemingly gentle girl, with her cheerful smile, would not hesitate to strike at vital points if necessary. 0

This was a skill honed through experience—Lu Fei Fan knew that this girl was certainly not as simple as she appeared. The same could be said for Mei San Shao; he likely did not know much about the history of human expeditions either. 0

As Lu Fei Fan accepted the game they handed over, he shrugged and skewered it on branches to roast over the fire. He had already eaten quite a bit; honey-roasted game was indeed delicious but too rich. A little salt would have made it a different experience altogether. 0

Just as he thought of this, Mei San Shao tossed him a bundle. Lu Fei Fan looked at his companion in surprise as he rummaged through the package to find a bottle of fine salt, white sugar, and spice powder... 0

Was this a hunting trip or a picnic? Lu Fei Fan thought to himself. 0

"Heh heh, you know if you spend too many nights under the stars, you'll start to have some standards," Mei San Shao seemed to sense Lu Fei Fan's disdainful attitude. 0

"Pfft." Lu Fei Fan couldn't be bothered with this fellow. "In the wild, nature provides everything you need." 0

Mei San Shao did not seem to have much of a rebuttal. Lying on the ground with his hands behind his head, chewing on a piece of wild grass, he said leisurely, "That's true, but what if you're on a deserted island all alone? Besides the mutated beasts, what can you do?" 0

Lu Fei Fan ignored him and began sprinkling various seasonings from the exquisite silver containers onto the golden-brown game roasting over the fire. With these spices, the flavor of the roasted meat would be entirely different from what Lu Fei Fan had just eaten. 0

After some time over the flames, the game gradually shrank as it dripped oil and moisture evaporated away. The enticing aroma began to waft through the air. 0

"You're roasting it so well; aren't you afraid of attracting others?" Mei San Shao was the first to reach out for a roasted rabbit, breaking off half and handing it to Hu Tian Er beside him. 0

"Yes, that's right, we just attracted two more," Lu Fei Fan said casually as he grabbed one of the roasted wild rabbits and took a bite. 0

Without needing to say much, the three of them devoured the roasted game by the fire. With salt and seasonings, the flavor was authentic barbecue. Lu Fei Fan's cooking skills truly amazed Mei San Shao; the taste was just right—not overly sweet or greasy, nor too salty. 0

With meat on the table, how could there be no wine? Hu Tian Er took a water pouch from her waist, took a swig herself, and then tossed it to Lu Fei Fan. He sniffed it; the strong aroma of potent liquor hit him. He glanced at the fiery girl, noting that both her figure and her drink were equally intense. 0

Lu Fei Fan hesitated for a moment, but Mei San Shao laughed heartily, "Haha, look at him! This fellow is too suspicious; he definitely won't drink your wine." 0

Hu Tian Er frowned and shot a glare at Mei San Shao before lowering her head to continue eating. Meanwhile, Mei San Shao reached over and snatched the wine pouch from Lu Fei Fan's hands. 0

"Give it to me! You're not fit to drink. You've already completed your mission. What if we slip something in your drink? That would be disastrous." After saying this, Mei San Shao took big gulps of the liquor and let out a loud belch. 0

"Good wine and good meat. This is fantastic." He patted his belly and then handed the pouch back to Lu Fei Fan. "If you're not afraid, give it a try. This wine has some kick." 0

Lu Fei Fan met Mei San Shao's challenging gaze and took the pouch again, drinking a few more swigs. The liquor burned like a ball of fire as it traveled down his throat to his stomach, invigorating him immensely. 0

"How does it feel? Pretty exhilarating, right?" Mei San Shao took back the pouch for another few gulps before handing it back to Lu Fei Fan. 0

This time, Lu Fei Fan didn't hesitate; he raised it again and drank several more mouthfuls. For some reason, after that first sip, he craved another. The intoxicating burn made him yearn for more. 0

By the time they finished drinking, Lu Fei Fan found himself lying by the fire, drifting into a heavy sleep. 0

In his dreams, he saw his mother feeding his father liquid food in a hospital. His mother's hair had turned grayer since he last saw her. His father lay in bed in a semi-conscious state, staring blankly at Hua Ban. In his dream, Lu Fei Fan desperately wanted to wake him up, but his father just continued to gaze at him without speaking... 0

Suddenly, there was a crash as his mother's bowl fell to the floor. She lunged at Lu Fei Fan with a terrifying expression, her hands gripping his throat. In an instant, he couldn't breathe and began to struggle. 0

When he jolted awake suddenly, all he saw was darkness; it felt as if something was wrapped tightly around his head! 0

With a surge of strength in his legs, Lu Fei Fan slammed his body to the right with all his might. An astonishing move—like a giant rock—sent the person holding him flying away. 0

Then, with a swift lift of his left knee, he collided with the man below him, causing the man to grunt in pain. Immediately after, Lu Fei Fan swept his right foot, and with a loud thud, the man seemed to kneel down as he was struck on the head by Lu Fei Fan's kick. 0

Lu Fei Fan quickly tore off the hood that had covered his head and saw that seven or eight people had surrounded him, each holding a dagger or hot weapon, watching him warily. 0

“Hey, kid, is the item on you?” shouted a man in his thirties with a scar running diagonally across his face. After he spoke, he spat on the ground and slowly stepped forward from the crowd. The energy pistol and a long knife at his waist indicated that he preferred close combat. 0

“What item? I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Lu Fei Fan replied coldly as he scanned the crowd. 0

Three of them were armed with energy pistols, four held daggers, and there was the scarred man. 0

“Boss, we just searched him; it’s not on him,” said the person who had been knocked away by Lu Fei Fan earlier as he returned. 0

“Most likely, he’s hidden it,” someone in the back immediately pointed at Lu Fei Fan. 0

“Hmph.” The Scarred Man snorted coldly, then spat again and warned, “Kid, I don’t care what relationship you have with Mei San Shao, but our monitor tracked the signal of that item right to you. Hand it over honestly, and we’ll let you go easy. Otherwise, you’ll regret it when my brothers get their hands on you; looking at your delicate skin, you won’t be able to withstand what they’ll do.” 0

His words instantly elicited lewd laughter from several people behind him. 0

Lu Fei Fan sighed; trouble always seemed to find him. 0

“Fine, since you don’t believe me, I won’t bother explaining further,” Lu Fei Fan shrugged. 0

“Pah! Kid, don’t refuse a toast only to be forced to drink a punishment. You think there’s nothing to discuss?” The Scarred Man threatened fiercely while pointing at Lu Fei Fan. 0

“It’s not that I don’t want to talk; it’s that you don’t believe me,” Lu Fei Fan replied just as he launched himself like a cannonball into the fray, directly knocking over two fellows wielding energy guns. 0

Bang! 0

One of them fired his weapon at Lu Fei Fan. He dodged just in time; however, the energy light bullet struck another person squarely in the chest, exploding into a spray of blood as the man screamed and fell backward. 0

With a swift kick, Lu Fei Fan sent two charging assailants flying. 0

"Die!" One of them pulled out an Energy Grenade, removed the Safety Ring, and hurled it towards Lu Fei Fan. 0

Lu Fei Fan raised his foot and kicked the falling Hand Grenade back. 0

Gasps filled the air as everyone ducked for cover. 0

Boom! 0

The deafening explosion sent rocks and debris flying behind them, striking two individuals and knocking them unconscious. The shockwave left the group, which had previously held the advantage in numbers, in disarray, with people and horses tumbling over one another. 0

As the Scarred Man got back on his feet, he scanned the area. Through the smoke, he saw that Lu Fei Fan had already grabbed a backpack and dashed a hundred meters away. 0

"Damn it, signal! Don’t let that bastard escape!" the Scarred Man ordered one of his subordinates who had just gotten up. 0

The subordinate quickly retrieved a signal flare and pulled the trigger, sending it soaring into the sky. 0

Lu Fei Fan, sprinting full speed towards Jin Shulin, felt a burst of fireworks erupt behind him. A glance revealed that it was not a rescue flare but a signal flare! 0

This group was definitely not just a ragtag bunch; they must have scattered to search for him… Wait, was it Mei San Shao? 0

Damn it, he must have passed out from that drink from Mei San Shao's flask. When he hurriedly ran earlier, he noticed that his Military Backpack was missing. So, Mei San Shao and that woman must have taken it… The thought made Lu Fei Fan want to curse. 0

Now, who were these people chasing him? What did they have left in his possession? Could it be that Mei San Shao's crew stole something from someone else and framed him for it? 0

Damn it! Once he got out of this mess and encountered Mei San Shao, he would make sure to take revenge to relieve this pent-up frustration! How dare he scheme against him… 0

But despite his thoughts, Lu Fei Fan didn’t dare to slow down. The pursuing group had already launched a signal flare; soon enough, a large number of pursuers would swarm in. This group was likely part of an organized hunt, similar to how the Jin Family brothers had besieged Bai Xu Chang. Why did he always find himself in such troublesome situations? 0

In the distance, beneath a large tree in the forest, Mei San Shao, carrying a magnificent bow, stood side by side with the alluring Hu Tian Er, who had a bulging military backpack slung over her shoulder. 0

"It seems our choice hasn't disappointed us," Mei San Shao remarked, raising an eyebrow as he watched Lu Fei Fan dart into the woods. 0

"Aren't you worried that he might come back to trouble you after you set him up like this?" Hu Tian Er replied calmly. 0

Mei San Shao sighed. "What can I do? It's not like I have a loving father or mother. I've had a rough life, and my health has never been great. I can't run like this fellow, so I have to make do with what I can." 0

Hu Tian Er chuckled teasingly. "I bet he's already thinking about killing you." 0

"I have a feeling," Mei San Shao suddenly became serious. 0

"What feeling?" Hu Tian Er asked, looking at him curiously. 0

"I think this fellow will bring us many interesting stories in the future." With that, he smiled and turned to leap into the forest, disappearing from sight. 0

Hu Tian Er glanced into the distance where a signal flare was rising, indicating that reinforcements were on their way. She could only wish Lu Fei Fan good luck from the bottom of her heart before she too turned and left the spot. 0
