Lu Fei Fan was brought to a secluded tent by the young man who had invited him. Surrounding the tent were several guards standing watch.
"Brother, I've brought him," the young man said to a team leader in his thirties who was standing at the entrance.
The team leader nodded and was about to say something when the tent flap was lifted, revealing a stern-looking young man. As he stepped out, he happened to glance up and caught sight of Lu Fei Fan, shooting him a hostile look before walking towards the team leader.
"I'm leaving now. I'll treat you to drinks next time," the young man said irritably.
"Ha ha, sure. Take care," the team leader replied with a knowing smile.
Without sparing Lu Fei Fan another glance, the young man walked past him but suddenly stopped after a couple of steps. It seemed he remembered something and turned back to scrutinize Lu Fei Fan closely, then muttered to himself.
"So you're the one that Chairperson wants to sign? Hmph, not that impressive. I really can't understand why Chairperson would be interested in someone with such mediocre talent."
With that, he turned and walked away, seemingly dismissing Lu Fei Fan entirely. Lu Fei Fan took note of this arrogant young man.
"Don't mind him. He treats every newcomer like this," the team leader said, patting Lu Fei Fan's shoulder in reassurance.
"Who is he?" Lu Fei Fan asked, stroking his chin with curiosity. In reality, he was wondering just who this person thought he was.
"Oh, that's Xie Yuanbai, the one who loves to bully others because of his connections. He calls himself 'Jifeng Blade,' claiming his dual knives can cut through water and metal. If it weren't for his sister, General Xie Yuanhong, he would have been dead countless times by now," the team leader explained, sounding as if he shared some disdain for Xie Yuanbai as well.
"Let's go inside. Chairperson has been waiting for you," the team leader reminded him.
"Thank you," Lu Fei Fan nodded, appreciating the team leader's warmth. He knew that most people wouldn't be so accommodating.
Upon entering the tent, Lu Fei Fan noticed several people already present. Sitting in the Main Seat was an elderly man with bright eyes and hair completely white. Behind him stood a woman dressed in a stylish outfit, her demeanor cheerful and confident. Beside her sat a young man in a White Samurai Outfit, elegantly waving a fan, his handsome features striking.
Behind this young man stood a stunning woman clad in fiery red battle leathers, with an Energy Gun hanging at her waist, her figure undeniably alluring.
“Chairman Luo, I, Mei Xuefeng, am a straightforward person. As long as this matter is successful, I will certainly not forget your kindness,” Mei Xuefeng said as he dramatically folded his fan adorned with the character ‘Mei’, eagerly awaiting the Chairman's response.
“Hmm…” The Chairman appeared to hesitate for a moment. “Since it’s the Third Young Master of the Mei Family personally making the request, how could I, Luo Lao, refuse to help? The items you seek will be sent to your camp shortly.”
Hearing the Chairman's agreement, Mei Xuefeng seemed calm and unhurried as he rose from his seat and swiftly opened his fan again.
“Thank you so much, Chairman Luo. I will return the favor double. Additionally, I owe you or the Xing Luo Chamber of Commerce a favor,” Mei Xuefeng said gracefully.
“The Third Young Master is too kind. Regardless of our Chamber’s relationship with your father, we must assist with this small request,” the Chairman replied before summoning one of his subordinates.
“Zhou.”
A composed young man entered in response.
“Take a few people and deliver the fifty bottles of Brilliant Soft Gold Liquid and ten Purple Smoke Cod that the Third Young Master requested,” the Chairman instructed.
“Yes,” Zhou replied before turning to lead others out promptly.
Seeing that the Chairman was following through on his promise, Mei San Shao felt elated. Noticing Lu Fei Fan and the team leader standing silently beside him, he tactfully said, “Since the Chairman is busy, I shall take my leave first. I will fulfill my promise another day.”
“Alright. Then I won’t see you off,” the Chairperson nodded.
As Mei Xuefeng turned to exit the tent, he cast a casual glance at Lu Fei Fan, then stepped out with the woman in the Fire Red Leather Jacket.
Once outside, the Third Young Master of the Mei Family strolled leisurely through the chaotic camp, fanning himself as he moved. People around him were busy preparing for tomorrow's Practical Assessment, but Mei Xuefeng, resembling a Wandering Young Master, wandered about as if he were taking a stroll with a maid, stopping here and there, his face filled with uncontainable curiosity.
The woman in the leather jacket attracted quite a few admirers due to her stunning figure. Whistles echoed as she passed by, and when she shot a cold glare at those who dared to approach her, some daring souls still tried to stop her for a flirtatious encounter. In response, she drew her gun without hesitation and fired; the man was hit and sent flying into a pile of debris. To everyone’s surprise, he wasn’t dead—just half-conscious on the ground, twitching and frothing at the mouth from the electric shock.
With that example in mind, many potential troublemakers thought twice before approaching her again. No one wanted to stir up too much trouble, especially with the Practical Assessment looming; losing their qualifications tonight would be a significant loss.
“Seems like you showed some mercy,” Mei Xuefeng remarked as he watched the commotion before continuing on his way, with the woman following closely behind.
“Why didn’t you step in to teach those ruffians a lesson?” she asked somewhat resentfully.
“Well, if I had to deal with such rookies myself, then you, Hu Tian Er, wouldn’t need to be following me around. Besides, it wouldn’t do my noble image any good. While saving a damsel in distress is all well and good, maintaining my suave demeanor is far more important. I can’t lose my composure in front of you,” Mei Xuefeng replied confidently.
“Ha! That’s one way to look at it,” the Leather Jacket Woman chuckled behind him. “But I still don’t quite understand.”
“What don’t you understand?” Mei Xuefeng turned back to ask.
“I don’t understand why you sought funding from the Xinghai Chamber of Commerce…” she said. “Fifty bottles of Brilliant Soft Gold Liquid and ten Purple Smoke Cods aren’t small quantities. That’s worth over a billion! Isn’t the Chairperson being too casual? Doesn’t he fear being scammed?”
“Scammed? Hmph! What kind of person do you think I am? I’m Mei Xuefeng—a well-known gentleman whose word is his bond. How could I possibly engage in deceitful acts? Alas… but if I have to repay this debt later on, it will indeed be quite a blow. I can only blame my unfortunate fate for having no mother’s love and a father who doesn’t care for me. At this point, I have no choice but to swallow my pride and ask for help.” With that, Mei Xuefeng sighed helplessly before changing the subject. “By the way, did you notice that young man in the tent earlier? What do you think his Pulse Energy level is?”
"I've noticed it, but... it doesn't seem very high, probably just a 'Third-Level Rookie.'"
"Third-Level Rookie? How could Luo Lao be interested in such a newcomer who barely reaches the level of a 'Special Rookie'? Strange..." With that, she shook her head and left, fanning herself.
Meanwhile, Lu Fei Fan stood inside the tent, feeling an odd sensation. The Chairperson was reviewing documents with her head down. Behind the Chairperson stood an unremarkable woman who smiled kindly at Lu Fei Fan, resembling a neighborly Aunt Wang. However, she remained silent, patiently assisting the elderly Chairperson.
After a while, the Chairperson finally finished reviewing the document in her hands and called over a servant to send it out before turning her attention to Lu Fei Fan.
"Is this him?" the Chairperson squinted her eyes and asked with a hint of uncertainty.
"Yes, it's him. My Thunderfire Bug can sense the Pulse Energy emanating from him, so it should be correct," San Niang replied seriously with a nod.
"Mm." The Chairperson nodded and waved at Lu Fei Fan. "Come here."
"What is your name?" the Chairperson asked Lu Fei Fan.
"Lu Fei Fan," he replied without hesitation, not trying to hide anything. He believed it would be easy for them to look up his name, so there was no need for deception.
"Well... we are here to invite you to join the Xing Luo Chamber of Commerce as one of our hunters," the Chairperson stated directly.
"Hunter?" This was the first time Lu Fei Fan had heard such a term.
"Yes, our hunters are part of the Special Operations Team within the Xing Luo Chamber of Commerce. Generally, they form teams to venture outside the safe zones into the seas to hunt Sea Beasts freely or explore ancient ruins in the deep sea and protect merchant caravans," San Niang added from behind.
“I'm afraid the benefits won't be personal, will they?” Lu Fei Fan said with a cold smile.
The Chairperson nodded and replied, “Of course, the monsters you hunt or the resources you uncover must be submitted to the organization. However, the organization will reward you based on your contributions, ensuring that those who work hard are not overlooked.”
Seeing Lu Fei Fan remain unmoved, San Niang quickly added with a smile, “As long as you are a hunter of the Xing Luo Chamber of Commerce, you won't have a hard time. Even if you get injured or sacrifice yourself for the Special Operations Team, we at the Xing Luo Chamber of Commerce will take full responsibility and ensure your family is well taken care of.”
“Of course, if you are fortunate enough to be promoted to an internal Trump Card level hunter or above, you'll be living quite comfortably. Some people achieve wealth and security in just four or five years. The treatment we offer our hunters is absolutely top-notch in the industry,” the Chairperson explained.
Lu Fei Fan nodded; it did sound quite appealing.
“So, what do you think? If you're interested, just sign this agreement, and you'll officially become our prospective hunter. Once you pass the Practical Assessment and earn the Fuser title, you'll be a full-fledged member. The annual salary is currently two million... Hmm? Is that too little? How about I raise it to three million? What do you say?”
Lu Fei Fan shook his head. Two million a year was nothing compared to his father's goal of one billion with the Jinwu Holy Blood Pill; it was merely a drop in the bucket.
“Still think it's too little? Many people miss out on opportunities like this. Keep in mind that the Practical Assessment isn't over yet; trying to negotiate now could hurt your future,” the Chairperson seemed to think Lu Fei Fan was trying to drive up the price.
“If it weren't for your display of potential tonight with the Mai Quan phenomenon, I wouldn't have come personally. Here's what I'll do: if you sign this agreement, I’ll agree to give you a five million annual salary, plus bonuses on top of that, and a separate villa at Star Sea Manor. How does that sound? Additionally, I’ll provide you with ten bottles of Cell Gene Solution and assign an experienced Trump Card hunter to mentor you one-on-one until you're ready. How about that? These terms should show my sincerity,” the Chairperson added earnestly.
“This…” Lu Fei Fan felt tempted. If it weren't for his father's serious illness, this job would already seem like a bright future for him.
“Sign here; what are you hesitating for?” The Chairperson pushed the agreement forward. “Feel free to review it; we won't set any traps in this contract.”
In the end, Lu Fei Fan stepped forward. The Chairperson and San Niang thought this young man was finally going to pick up the pen and compromise. If it weren't for his unique background, they wouldn't have offered such generous terms; for someone yet to debut in this field, it was undoubtedly a huge opportunity.
However, Lu Fei Fan's next move left the Chairperson and San Niang utterly astonished.
"I'm sorry."
Lu Fei Fan pushed the contract back across the table to the Chairperson.
"I can't sign."
"You..." The Chairperson stared at him, appearing somewhat exasperated. He quickly began to persuade, "Young man, not everyone is willing to offer you such terms! Don't act impulsively; think it over carefully and give us your answer later."
"No." Lu Fei Fan shook his head, clenching his fist. "My mind is made up. Thank you for your kind offer, but I must take my leave now."
With that, Lu Fei Fan turned to leave.
"Wait." The Chairperson called out to him.
"Is there anything else?" Lu Fei Fan stopped and turned back to ask.
"Ahem. Well... young man, could you tell us why you can't sign the agreement?" the Chairperson inquired.
"Personal reasons." Lu Fei Fan did not elaborate; some matters were better left unsaid, especially since this was a family issue that didn't need to be shared with outsiders, particularly a group of unrelated individuals.
"Personal reasons?" The Chairperson glanced at San Niang, his expression becoming quite peculiar. This reason was intriguing indeed, leaving much to ponder.
"Alright. As long as you reconsider, this agreement and the promises made earlier will still be here for you. I hope you think it through," the Chairperson sincerely invited.
"Okay. Thank you," Lu Fei Fan replied simply before turning and leaving, not lingering any longer.
After Lu Fei Fan departed, the Chairperson sat in their seat, unable to calm down for a long time.
"What a strange person. To offer such generous terms and still refuse—it's truly baffling," the Chairperson mused, struggling to understand Lu Fei Fan's thoughts. Most people would have compromised by now.
"Perhaps he has his own reasons; today's youth aren't as conservative in their thinking as we older generations," San Niang speculated from the side.
"Yes, that's possible. However, San Niang, it would be best to send someone to investigate why he declined our invitation. I don't want this young man to become a hunter for the Yun Yan Chamber of Commerce and the Qixing Chamber of Commerce. A young person who can remain so composed—whether or not he is exceptionally talented, his future is promising..."
"Chairperson, what about the Jin Long Zi Xia we prepared earlier..."
"Keep it for now; it will eventually be his."
"Understood."
