As night fell, the camp of the Monster Base remained lively and bustling.
The town outside was even more vibrant; despite the imminent start of the Practical Assessment, many took advantage of the night to indulge in revelry, drinking and chatting merrily.
Lu Fei Fan, however, chose to stay behind. The others from the camp had already ventured out for fun, including A Teng and Da Li, who were eager to flirt with the female soldiers and female candidates. The atmosphere outside was filled with excitement, and the competition was fierce.
Uncertain of what tomorrow might bring, a group of people seemed to liberate themselves from their worries. Some female candidates, intoxicated with male companions, headed straight to the base's inn for a room. The soldiers and officers responsible for training couldn't be bothered as long as no one caused a fatal incident or trespassed restricted areas; they were indifferent to what the candidates chose to do.
Lu Fei Fan shook his head, maintaining his calm demeanor. In the empty camp, he sat in meditation and cultivation. A faint pulse of energy began to manifest around him as he circulated his Fu Mai Xi Shu, gathering like a gentle stream within his meridians. The dormant cells beneath his skin stirred under the tangible pulse energy, slowly beginning their transformation.
Like flower buds poised to bloom, this was the result of over a hundred cycles of Fu Mai Xi Shu. Lu Fei Fan estimated that around ten thousand cells were awakening this time. He watched as these bud-like cells absorbed energy while a continuous flow of pulse energy emanated from other awakened cells, an endless cycle of vitality.
"Good, keep going," Lu Fei Fan urged himself as he picked up the Black Eye gifted by Thunder Jun. Through Fu Mai Xi Shu's sensing ability, waves of pure and powerful energy surged into him like a refreshing spring. His entire body resonated with this energy, invigorating him instantly. The strength of his Fu Mai Xi Shu doubled in an instant.
The Black Eye erupted like a burst pipe, unleashing a torrent of formidable energy. This was Lu Fei Fan's first encounter with such pure pulse energy; it would take thousands of refinements for his own pulse energy to reach this level. This overwhelming pulse energy quickly engulfed his own, leaving only Fu Mai Xi Shu to guide and channel it through his body, cleansing those dormant cells.
The Black Eye acted like a massive dam; once guided, the pulse energy surged forth like a flood. Lu Fei Fan's Fu Mai Xi Shu operated frantically; if he stopped now, he would suffer severe damage. The speed at which Fu Mai Xi Shu operated exceeded his expectations—it was like a finely tuned machine running at high speed. The pulse energy flowed endlessly, awakening batches of cells that devoured and refined it to enhance their quality.
Unbeknownst to Lu Fei Fan, his pulse energy had already reached a critical state. Initially enveloped in a faint glow of pulse energy, it thickened after absorbing the immense power from the Black Eye until it transformed into a spray of white mist—hot and steamy like vapor—quickly shrouding the entire camp in a haze. His body flickered between visibility and obscurity, appearing to outsiders as if he were lost in an intense state of cultivation.
Yet Lu Fei Fan was merely consuming the pulse energy from the Black Eye with reckless abandon through Fu Mai Xi Shu, transforming it into countless stars illuminating the unknown void of energy within him.
However, as he operated at maximum capacity, the surging heat intensified further. The camp began to emit steam continuously; those nearby thought it might be on fire.
"What’s going on? Why is there so much mist coming from that camp?"
"Could it be on fire? Are these kids trying to burn us alive?"
"Let’s go check out what’s happening."
Several people around attempted to approach, but just as they made it halfway, suddenly...
Boom.
A white beam of light shot up from the Camp, piercing the pitch-black night sky. It was as if a brilliant energy brush had begun to stir the ink-black heavens, causing the clouds above to rumble with thunder and lightning. Moments later, the light fell like a shooting star, vanishing in an instant.
This beam of light immediately captured the attention of many at the Monster Base. Numerous individuals in the camp looked up in astonishment at this unexpected phenomenon, completely unaware of what had transpired.
On the opposite shore of the island where the Monster Base was located, there lay a uniquely designed villa area.
What made it special was that this villa area consisted of individual courtyards, each distinct and separate from one another. The villas were extravagantly decorated, featuring intricately carved stone paths and elegant pavilions. The landscape was adorned with beautiful pine and flowering plants that resembled a celestial paradise. A mist gently rose from a shimmering pool, where luminous shrimp and exotic fish occasionally glided by.
At this moment, every villa was brightly lit, indicating that valuable guests had already checked in. The white energy pillar that shot up from the distant base startled these guests.
In just a few seconds, three to five Empowered Individuals rose from each courtyard, hovering in mid-air to observe the phenomenon, eager not to miss any details or to be caught off guard by a sudden enemy attack. This indicated that security here was exceptionally high-level.
However, the phenomenon was fleeting; before anyone could scrutinize it closely, it dissipated into thin air. Yet many strong individuals quietly directed a portion of their Pulse Energy to lock onto the exact location where the event occurred. Following that, those hovering figures ignored one another as if pretending not to see each other and descended into their courtyards to report what they had witnessed back to their superiors.
One woman surrounded by twinkling starlight slowly descended. As she landed, she waved her hand, and the starlight floating around her seemed to vanish into her sleeves like living creatures. She quickly walked along the winding stone path of the villa towards a wooden house beside a misty pool that resembled a hot spring.
Several guards stood inside the villa courtyard; they nodded respectfully at her before continuing their vigilance over the surroundings.
The woman approached an elderly man standing at the entrance. He had a solemn expression, a gaunt face, dark skin, and eyes that sparkled with anticipation beneath his faint eyebrows.
The woman bowed slightly before him and reported, “Chairperson, there has been an anomaly triggered by someone awakening during their cultivation of Mai Quan.”
“Mai Quan anomaly?” The old man's eyes brightened. “San Niang, what do you think about this Mai Quan anomaly?”
Mai Quan refers to the phenomenon that occurs when a person's Pulse Energy accumulates to the point of bursting forth uncontrollably, much like a spring, during a breakthrough in cultivation. This sudden influx of Pulse Energy causes the surrounding environment and the individual's body to resonate simultaneously, resulting in extraordinary manifestations.
This is a clear indication that the cultivator is reaching a new level.
"Chairperson, such phenomena should only be triggered by those with exceptional talent. I have practiced for over thirty years and have never caused such an intense Mai Quan manifestation. The fact that this individual can evoke such an astonishing phenomenon proves that their future is limitless. This kind of potential is truly enviable and remarkable."
"Oh? If that's the case, this cultivator is indeed worthy of our Xing Luo Chamber of Commerce's significant investment." The thin, elderly Chairperson nodded thoughtfully before turning to give an order. "Come here."
"Yes," a guard stepped forward.
"Go and bring me the Jin Long Zi Xia that I prepared." The Chairperson instructed.
"Understood." The guard promptly left.
San Niang hesitated for a moment before stepping forward to remind him, "Chairperson, the Jin Long Zi Xia was prepared for the Bai Family..."
She dared not continue; going further would overstep her bounds, so she stopped there.
"Bai Family? Hmph." At this point, the Chairperson snorted coldly, still unable to swallow his pride. "That Bai Xu Chang from the Bai Family is far too arrogant. He has publicly stated that he won't consider any collaboration unless it involves treasures of Special Class grade or higher."
"Special Class..." San Niang gasped in shock. In her understanding, even a second-tier treasure could fetch nearly a hundred million at an auction.
For instance, the incredibly difficult-to-hunt Snow Silver Fish Fin from the one-eyed white shark, the Liuli Changsheng Bean that grows on the ocean floor and extends human lifespan, and the Immortal Yimi Flower that preserves youth—all these second-tier treasures are rare and highly sought after at auctions, yet they are seldom seen even by people like them.
After a long pause, San Niang sighed, "That really is asking for too much."
"Hmph, it's not that our chamber can't afford it; we simply don't want to become stepping stones for others. Since there are more promising newcomers among this group worth investing in, we need not trouble ourselves with visiting them," the Chairperson replied.
At that moment, a small firefly with fluttering wings danced into view before San Niang. She turned her palm up to catch the firefly as it landed gently in her hand. Observing its glowing rear end for a moment, she then closed her hand and reported back to the Chairperson.
“Chairperson, I’ve located that person.” With that, San Niang tossed the firefly in her hand, and it flew up gently, as if preparing to lead the way ahead.
“Good, let’s go.” The Chairperson instructed the others to gather their things and prepare to leave. However, just as they reached the door, he suddenly stopped in his tracks.
“Hmm? Isn’t that Chu Wei Lan from the Chu Family? What is he doing here?” The Chairperson observed a young man standing at the entrance of the courtyard, casually waiting with an air of arrogance. That person was indeed Chu Wei Lan, whom Lu Fei Fan recognized.
“Chairperson, that courtyard seems to be the temporary base of the Chu Family,” San Niang reminded him from the side.
“Yes, I know that. But why is Chu Wei Lan not entering directly and instead waiting at the door?” The Chairperson was curious about this question.
“Well… it seems that Chu Wei Lan had a serious disagreement with his family over a marriage issue and, in a fit of anger, decided to leave home secretly,” San Niang explained. “I heard he even gave up his qualification for the Elite Giver elimination competition because of this.”
“He’s quite proud, isn’t he? Never mind; let’s first deal with the person who triggered the Pulse Spring Phenomenon. We need to move quickly.”
“Yes.”
San Niang didn’t dare to delay and quickly followed the firefly as it floated towards the bustling camp. The Chairperson also took a few more glances at Chu Wei Lan before hastily leaving.
