In the command room, the captain naturally noticed the dense clusters of bright dots on the radar scan. He remained silent, which only intensified the already heavy and urgent atmosphere within the room.
Faced with such a critical situation, he had to rack his brain for a foolproof plan. After all, the lives of hundreds of people aboard rested in his hands, not to mention that he was unwilling to perish in the depths of the ocean.
This might be the greatest crisis he had encountered in decades of life; the unprecedented weight and pressure forced him to think calmly and cautiously, as every decision could lead to immeasurable consequences.
“How much longer until we can escape this storm area?” the captain suddenly asked.
“The storm is expanding. It’s estimated that we’ll need at least two hours to completely leave the storm zone,” a burly crew member reported nervously, lifting his head.
“Two hours…” The captain murmured to himself, followed by a heavy silence.
Outside the command room, gunfire continued to erupt. The Ferry was straining to increase its distance from the Sea Beasts behind it, with shells exploding in sprays of water amidst the dark, lightning-filled storm.
The busiest on deck were undoubtedly those manning the Rocket Launchers. They moved like a firefighting squad, darting around the deck to deal with large numbers of Sea Beasts approaching the hull.
The battle from the lookout point was even more intense. Lu Fei Fan's Sniper Rifle never ceased firing as he loaded an Electromagnetic Armor-Piercing Round into the chamber. With a bang, he pulled the trigger, obliterating a leaping Thousand-Faced Octopus, its black liquid splattering everywhere.
Unlike the Magma Burst Fish, this creature was essentially weightless when airborne and could not control itself; as long as he aimed properly, it was easy to shoot it down and even take out several of its kind in one go. Lu Fei Fan particularly enjoyed hunting these creatures.
However, unlike the Magma Burst Fish, Steelrock Red-Shelled Turtles were entirely different. These creatures were like living tanks. Lu Fei Fan had previously tried five shots with Electromagnetic Armor-Piercing Rounds but failed to penetrate their shells. Clearly, he was at a loss. It was only when they turned to deal with swarms of sea monsters invading their territory that Lu Fei Fan gave up on them.
But Thousand-Faced Octopuses posed a bit more trouble. They were incredibly fast and agile in movement. In water, their tentacles allowed them to dodge left and right and even leap and run. Lu Fei Fan was astonished at how these creatures could move through water like lightning, making them difficult to target.
However, once Lu Fei Fan activated Fu Mai Xi Shu, his Pulse Energy surged significantly, enhancing his sensory perception and neural reaction speed. After trying two or three shots, his Sniper Rifle began to hit its mark consistently.
Bang!
A tentacle of a swiftly moving octopus was instantly struck, exploding into pieces.
Following that was a series of rapid shots—bang, bang, bang—as the surrounding Thousand-Faced Octopuses were hit one after another, causing the group of octopuses to scatter in fear, moving swiftly to either side.
The snipers on the other ferries couldn't help but be surprised. Who had such remarkable marksmanship?
On the second deck, Tao Hua also noticed this scene.
"Who is up there?" Tao Hua asked the chief petty officer beside him.
The dirty chief petty officer looked up and replied, "It seems... to be a newcomer participating in the Assessment."
Tao Hua's weapon, the Red Wolf, also began firing rapidly, taking out all the approaching Thousand-Faced Octopuses.
However, the gunfire from above was even faster. This time, plasma and explosive rounds were being fired, instantly devastating those Thousand-Faced Octopuses that had been driven to the sides.
"Damn it!" Tao Hua exclaimed as he saw the Thousand-Faced Octopuses seemingly cornered. They began to accelerate, emitting a shrill sound as they charged forward in fury.
But on the deck, Da Gang and other warriors quickly established a fire net with their rifles, sweeping through a cluster of octopuses. Many of them collided in their frantic attempts to evade and were directly hit.
Energy grenades were continuously thrown out, exploding with a thunderous roar among the monsters trying to board the ferry!
At that moment, several giant serpents with black scales surged from the sea, measuring anywhere from ten to several dozen meters long, surrounding the Ferry!
“It’s the Huan Gu Hai Mu She!” Da Gang shouted. “Artillery, aim at the Huan Gu Hai Mu She! Don’t let them get close to the ship!” He then turned and yelled to the soldiers inside the deck, “Get the men below ready for battle!”
A soldier dashed into the interior deck and pressed a warning bell!
Beneath the ship's deck, there was a lower chamber—not a cargo hold or a storage compartment, but a Cannon Battery firing chamber!
On either side were mobile fortress-like Cannon Batteries. The driving seats were inside, similar to tanks, with the cannon barrels slowly extending through external hatches. Unlike the deck-mounted cannons, these barrels were spiral-shaped rather than dark and foreboding.
A rotating control platform was immediately covered by a glass dome, with two operators seated on either side!
All soldiers skillfully turned their Cannon Batteries towards the sides of the ship, using tempered glass and specialized sights to prepare for impact!
Suddenly, octopuses burst forth from the surrounding waters, their terrifying mouths wide open as they charged towards the ship's glass!
“Fire!” commanded an experienced officer decisively.
In the water, the spiral cannon barrels that had been lying in wait instantly unleashed streams of white electrical currents, striking the oncoming octopuses. They writhed and fell one after another. Some octopuses attempted to veer off and attack the bottom of the ship, but there emerged several cylindrical Metal Balls beneath that connected in a series. Just as those octopuses aimed to strike at the ship's hull, intense electrical sparks erupted between the Metal Balls!
Countless octopuses were electrocuted and fell!
As these octopuses surrounded the lower chamber in an assault, terrifyingly long Huan Gu Hai Mu She began to appear in the surrounding waters. They swam around, attempting to crash into the Ferry's deck. The Cannon Batteries immediately opened fire, unleashing torrents of electricity. The Huan Gu Hai Mu She outside were struck by tens of thousands of volts, thrashing their bodies and inadvertently hitting several Thousand-Faced Octopuses in their struggle!
They were even driven mad with bloodlust, starting to attack each other or treating the Thousand-Faced Octopus as food to devour.
Witnessing the horrifying slaughter and consumption of these creatures, the warriors in the lower deck couldn't help but break into a cold sweat out of fear. However, the Ferry was still moving quickly. In the face of the sudden assault from the Thousand-Faced Octopus, the bottom of the ship had turned into a chaotic battlefield. Yet, during this critical moment when they were on the brink of disaster, how much longer could they hold on?
This terrifying question was one no one dared to ponder. They only knew that if they stopped firing, it would mean waiting for death, becoming a meal for those terrifying beasts outside the ship.
Under pressure, the Ferry began to dump its last reserves of fish into the water, sending them toward the massive and frenzied Huan Gu Hai Mu She that were trying to capsize the vessel!
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The violent underwater explosions caused the Ferry to shudder, and several Octopuses collided directly against the glass hull, leaving a few cracks that made everyone’s hearts race with anxiety.
The warriors seemed to be stimulated by this chaos and immediately opened fire with their plasma rifles at the Huan Gu Hai Mu She and Octopuses that surged forward to attack!
On the sea surface, the battle intensified.
The ship's cannons appeared to have finished off the Steelrock Red-Shelled Turtle and began turning their barrels toward the approaching hordes of Huan Gu Hai Mu She to bombard them!
Chunks of flesh and sprays of blood erupted, but there were simply too many monsters; even with countless casualties from a single shot, it did little to diminish their relentless advance.
Many Thousand-Faced Octopuses leaped onto the side of the ship, and as warriors scrambled to grab their Energy Rifles to shoot, several Octopuses easily landed on the deck. Their agile tentacles swiftly pierced through several warriors' bodies!
Furious, Da Gang wildly spun his Huo Xiao Machine Gun, blasting apart the leaping Octopuses one after another.
But when he ran out of ammunition, he couldn't help but roar in anger as he threw down the 'Huo Xiao' Machine Gun in his hands. With both hands, he drew out two specially made 'Zhan Bing' combat Zhan Dao from his back and lunged towards the 'Thousand-Faced Octopus' rushing onto the deck!
Swish! Swish!
In a flash, his two swift slashes cut through the two upright 'Thousand-Faced Octopus', slicing them in half.
However, more of these creatures emerged from the water, their Tentacles standing upright as they surrounded Da Gang. Clearly, they recognized that Da Gang was not an easy opponent and decided to gang up on this human!
Da Gang gripped his dual blades and scanned the area filled with monsters swaying their Tentacles at him. Suddenly, the Octopus struck like lightning, six of them launching three or four Tentacles each simultaneously, aiming to pierce through this human!
But with a furious roar, Da Gang unleashed an astonishing surge of energy. The 'Zhan Bing' in his hands radiated a terrifying glow as he swept them around, severing all the Tentacles in one go!
Even faster was his counterattack; he struck left and right, forward and backward with precision, hitting those 'Thousand-Faced Octopus' with deadly accuracy!
To everyone's astonishment, Da Gang’s speed of attack was even quicker than that of the 'Thousand-Faced Octopus'. Lu Fei Fan, catching a glimpse, couldn't help but admire Da Gang’s fearless fighting Willpower. Only such formidable Willpower could allow one to rise from the brink of death.
This was instinctive combat; it was likely not Da Gang’s first encounter with these terrifying monsters.
On the deck, many soldiers drew their Zhan Dao and joined the fight against the 'Thousand-Faced Octopus'. It was evident that all those on the first-floor deck were seasoned Veterans, while the newcomers and those less skilled in close combat were assigned to the second and third floors for shooting duties.
The gunfire did not cease; warriors on the third and second floors poured their efforts into shooting down the 'Thousand-Faced Octopus' that were climbing aboard. Lu Fei Fan, no longer able to aim carefully, grabbed a nearby Energy Rifle, tossed a Hand Grenade, and fired shot after shot—boom! Boom! Boom…
The explosions from the Hand Grenade consumed many of the 'Thousand-Faced Octopus' attempting to leap onto the ship from the sea surface!
From above, numerous Thousand-Faced Octopuses leaped up to cling onto the ship, only to be cut down by the warriors on board with guns and knives. During this chaos, many Sea Beasts and even humans continuously fell into the Ocean from the rapidly retreating vessel.
The ship appeared to be leaking from all sides, teetering on the brink of collapse.
With a loud crash, a serpentine tail whipped out of the water, striking the forward cannon. The terrifying Huan Gu Hai Mu She had begun its assault!
This level of Huan Gu Hai Mu She, with its thick body measuring over a meter and its scales impervious to gunfire, must have been nearly a hundred years old!
It was undoubtedly a truly terrifying catastrophic monster. If it continued its assault, this Ferry would soon be shredded and sunk.
With a splash, another Huan Gu Hai Mu She surged up from the depths, crashing down towards the Ferry. Its Snake Head opened wide, ready to bite.
Many warriors on the deck retreated in terror, their formation completely collapsing.
At that moment, a figure shot out from the cabin like lightning, leaping into the air!
