The few trainees, bare-chested and wearing boxing gloves, were drenched in sweat as they relentlessly pounded the Human Sandbags. The electronic measuring device connected to the Human Sandbags continuously updated the numbers on the display based on the force of their punches.
Lu Fei Fan approached a row of Human Sandbag training devices. Several trainees were throwing punches with all their might, but some were clearly running out of steam, their strikes varying in strength. The most consistent among them was a trainee at the end, using the Sandbag Machine. With bronze skin glistening with sweat, he wore shorts and black gloves, delivering each punch with precision and hitting various parts of the Human Sandbag accurately. What caught Lu Fei Fan's attention, along with that of several other onlookers, was that his display showed every punch registering a force of one hundred and fifty kilograms, fluctuating only slightly—no more than five kilograms. This demonstrated that his control over his punching power was significantly better than that of the other trainees around him.
After unleashing a series of combination punches on the Human Sandbag, he relaxed, clearly satisfied with his balanced training results. A punching power of one hundred and fifty kilograms was among the best in the gym—of course, excluding those monstrous Fuser instructors.
Seeing him take a break, several trainees quickly gathered around him, offering water and towels in hopes of receiving some tips.
"Yang Ge, your control over your punching power seems to have improved again," said a tall, lean man eagerly.
The boxer named Yang Ge responded with a grunt as he took a towel to wipe off his sweat, seemingly enjoying the flattery from this group of Low-Level Students.
"Yeah, yeah! With just a month left until the Fu Tong Kao, among our batch of trainees, with Yang Ge's delicate and precise control over his punches, he’s sure to be among the top candidates," chimed in another trainee who appeared slightly older.
"What top candidate? You underestimate Yang Ge too much. With Yang Ge's potential, he can definitely make it onto the Special Class candidate list. As for us lowly ones like you and me, we probably won't even make it onto the third-tier ordinary candidate list. I just hope I can scrape by with a passing grade," said the tall trainee while flattering Yang Ge.
"Yeah, yeah! We hope Yang Ge can give us some pointers so we can at least secure a passing spot," several other trainees echoed.
"Alright, alright," Yang Ge said after wiping off his sweat and waving his hand dismissively. "Do you really think getting onto the Special Class candidate list is that easy? Those are all top talents. For commoners like us, getting a second-tier evaluation is already quite remarkable."
After hearing this, Lu Fei Fan nodded in agreement, noting that this person hadn’t become overly arrogant yet. However, from their conversation, he learned that the Unified Awakeners Examination could actually categorize candidates into different tiers.
He put on a smile and feigned humility as he asked, "Excuse me... what exactly is this ordinary and Special Class candidate system?"
Yang Ge glanced at Lu Fei Fan and his companions A Teng and Niu Dali before shaking his head disinterestedly and turning to leave.
Not only him; even those who had been flattering Yang Ge looked disdainfully at Lu Fei Fan and his friends. A Teng and Niu Dali felt uncomfortable under those gazes and were about to retort when Lu Fei Fan stopped them just in time. He maintained his facade of being eager to learn.
"Fine then," one trainee said haughtily after seeing Lu Fei Fan's earnestness. "I'll kindly enlighten you about this matter. The empowerment examination is notoriously strict; every trainee must go through selection before entering the preliminary rounds. Once in the preliminary rounds, various assessments will determine whether they fall into passing, third-tier, second-tier, first-tier, or Special Class candidates. The third tier consists of ordinary candidates; second-tier candidates are considered Fu Elites with some potential for advancement. As for first-tier candidates? Well, they are all formidable fighters. And as for Special Class candidates? They are truly exceptional—rare talents with immeasurable Empowerment potential who are sought after by major corporations, prestigious families, and even military forces for cultivation. Such individuals are few and far between!"
"Wow! I had no idea there were so many intricacies involved. I guess we really are lacking in experience," A Teng muttered while stroking his chin.
"Of course! How would you worthless ones who can't even get into the preliminary rounds know these details? Hmph! This is something our instructor told us privately," that trainee scoffed at A Teng and Lu Fei Fan's ignorance.
"Oh, thank you for enlightening us with this information," Lu Fei Fan replied with a smile and a respectful gesture before he discreetly linked arms with A Teng and Niu Dali as they moved to a corner at the end of the boxing training area.
“There's not much substance in what this mentor teaches, and it won't really help you for the exam. I have a way to help you pass the Unified Examination. Are you in?”
“Just you?” A Teng looked at Lu Fei Fan with skepticism, clearly not convinced.
“Well, there's still a month until the Unified Awakeners Examination. Would you rather listen to the mentor's irrelevant lectures or train using my methods and take a shot at it?” Lu Fei Fan had already made up his mind to have these two friends take the exam together. After all, they were the only ones who had helped him when he was in trouble, and he certainly wanted to assist them in passing the Fu Tong Kao to obtain their Fuser qualifications.
Niu Dali rubbed his large, rough hands together excitedly. “Hehe, as long as I can find a wife, I'm in.”
“Alright, let's do it your way.” A Teng slapped his thigh, deciding to go all out.
Lu Fei Fan nodded, already formulating a specialized training plan for these two. Of course, he would discuss it further on the Virtual Network with 'the Hero.'
At this moment, in a conference room on the second floor of the club.
In front of an intricately carved sandalwood tea table adorned with dragon and phoenix motifs sat an expensive purple clay teapot filled with fragrant tea.
On the left side, Jiang Wannian sat calmly, skillfully pouring tea from the purple clay pot with fluid movements.
“I didn't expect your tea brewing skills to be so precise,” remarked an elderly man in his sixties seated across from him, dressed in scholarly robes. He smiled warmly in praise.
His face did not appear aged but was adorned with two wisps of white hair, earning him the nickname 'Mr. Whitebeard.'
“Mr. Whitebeard is too kind,” Jiang Wannian replied humbly. “If it weren't for your support back then, I might not have achieved what I have today.”
“Oh, that’s all due to your own talent and hard work. I just didn’t want to see your abilities go to waste. Here, try this tea and see how it tastes,” Mr. Whitebeard urged eagerly.
Jiang Wannian picked up the cup and sipped thoughtfully before nodding appreciatively.
“The flavor is fragrant with a lingering sweetness that makes it quite enjoyable. It’s definitely superior to the Wu Dong Dan Cong you usually prefer,” Jiang Wannian commented on the tea.
“Hahaha!” Mr. Whitebeard laughed heartily. “Of course! This tea is not comparable to those lower-grade leaves. You should know that I had someone spend quite a while procuring this Junshan Silver Needle from the Central Special Zone!”
Jiang Wannian felt somewhat unworthy; just hearing its name made him realize its value. The fact that Mr. Whitebeard was sharing his favorite tea with him left him feeling pleasantly surprised.
Mr. Whitebeard, after seeing through the situation, waved his hand and said, “Good things are meant to be shared. What’s the point of having something great if you don’t share it with others? Nowadays, people love to eat alone and work alone. Humanity’s inability to unite is why we nearly faced extinction at the hands of the ocean and these monsters.”
Jiang Wannian nodded in agreement. “Mr. Whitebeard is right. The early scheduling of the Free Federation Unified Awakeners Examination is a good opportunity for our Xuanwu Guild.”
Mr. Whitebeard acknowledged with a grunt and then called out towards the door, “Gu Li.”
After a moment of steady footsteps, a young man with thick eyebrows and bright eyes, full of spirit and vigor, pushed the door open and entered.
Jiang Wannian casually glanced at the young man from the corner of his eye but soon returned to his tea, appearing indifferent.
“What does Uncle want?” the young man respectfully addressed Mr. Whitebeard.
“Go get the list I prepared,” Mr. Whitebeard instructed.
“Understood.” The young man turned and left.
Bai Xu smiled as he watched Jiang Wannian finish his cup of tea, then asked with some pride, “How was that young man’s talent?”
“Above average,” Jiang Wannian replied honestly, seeming quite nonchalant.
Bai Xu nodded. “With your ‘above average’ assessment, my nephew should have no problem making it into the second tier of candidates.”
Before long, Gu Li returned, holding a list which he handed to Mr. Whitebeard. After that, the young man respectfully exited without saying another word.
Bai Xu passed the organized list to Jiang Wannian. “Here it is; this is the list we’ve compiled over the past few months. Everyone on this list has been carefully selected by me. You’ll need to assess each one individually and submit your evaluations later. But you need to be quick; the Azure Dragon Guild has already started their recruitment, and several promising candidates have been poached for focused training.”
Jiang Wannian opened the list; it contained detailed information including age, physique, awakening time, and assessment dates. It was clear that Mr. Whitebeard had put considerable effort into this, proving himself worthy as the head of this venue. He himself had been similarly nurtured by the Xuanwu Guild in his youth, which had led to his current achievements.
At that moment, a wave of raucous noise suddenly erupted from outside.
“Huh?” Jiang Wannian paused and exchanged glances with Bai Xu.
“Gu Li,” Bai Xu called out.
The young man Gu Li pushed the door open and walked in.
Bai Xu asked him, "What's happening outside?"
"I'll go take a look," Gu Li replied, turning to step back out. He returned shortly after.
Jiang Wannian also set down the list he had been examining, stroking his chin as he waited for Gu Li's report, though he had already guessed part of what was going on.
"Uncle, there's a young man outside fighting with someone, and it's attracted quite a crowd of students," Gu Li reported upon his return.
"Fighting?" Bai Xu's curiosity was piqued.
Jiang Wannian remained seated, calm as ever, and chuckled. "Young people these days are full of vigor; it's only natural for them to challenge each other."
In the end, Bai Xu could no longer contain his excitement. "Come on, let's go take a look."
"Alright." Jiang Wannian didn't refuse, picking up the list and standing up to accompany him outside to see what was happening.
