Early in the morning, the prison guard came to wake up Lu Fei Fan and brought him to a meeting room. The guard then stood motionless at the door, seemingly waiting for something.
After a while, another door opened, and in walked Lu Fei Fan's younger brother, Hua Jun Tang, along with another man named Zhong Nian, who was carrying a briefcase. Zhong Nian wore a pair of outdated, thick glasses and had a rather dull expression, his hair styled in an unflattering manner.
"Brother, are you okay?" Hua Jun Tang asked anxiously.
"I'm fine. They have food and drink inside, and they haven't done anything to me. Just take care of things with Mom and Dad for now. Once I'm out, I'll figure out how to get money for Dad's transfer," Lu Fei Fan explained.
"Brother, they're going to press charges against you." Hua Jun Tang glanced at Zhong Nian beside him. "This is Brother A Teng and Dali Ge's lawyer."
"Hello. My surname is Hu. You can just call me Old Hu," the lawyer introduced himself angrily before getting straight to the point. "Currently, your bail still has some possibility. There are twenty-three injured people; some are severely injured, and one person has died from their injuries..."
Lu Fei Fan seemed taken aback that his actions had resulted in someone's death.
"This was originally a case of justifiable defense, but... Heihubang has tampered with things. All the involved parties claim that they were acting in self-defense, so the police department wants to detain you. The testimonies and physical evidence are quite unfavorable for you," Old Hu stated bluntly.
"So, Hu Lawyer, can this case be settled?" Lu Fei Fan asked.
"It can either be settled privately or go to court," Old Hu replied while tapping his fingers on the table. "However, it seems the other party has no intention of settling privately; we will likely have to go to court."
"Thank you for your help, Hu Lawyer," Lu Fei Fan said with a bitter smile. He knew that it was clear Heihubang's group was targeting him and would not let him go easily.
"By the way, I heard your friend is preparing to take the Aptitude Test in three months?" Hu Lawyer suddenly brought up this topic.
"Yes, that's the plan," Lu Fei Fan nodded, unsure why this was being mentioned.
"Then there is another option: you can participate in the assessment and, if you pass, become a Fuser. The laws of the Free Federation allow for your release from prison. A Fuser can eliminate their crimes through military merit or contributions to the Free Federation worth 10∑ Syle. Please make sure to work hard; I will do my best to delay your case for three months," Hu Lawyer said.
"But can I still prepare while locked up?" Lu Fei Fan asked.
"Don't worry. As long as you sign up, the Free Federation will arrange for you to take the exam. The Free Federation offers preferential treatment for Fusers," Hu Lawyer explained.
"Okay, thank you," Lu Fei Fan said, extending his hand.
The other party shook his hand and then stood up to leave.
Hua Jun Tang stood up and looked at Lu Fei Fan, his eyes flickering with guilt. He knew that if it weren't for his reckless behavior, they wouldn't have fallen into those people's gambling trap. Although he didn't know what he or his brother had done to offend them, if it weren't for him, his older brother wouldn't be locked up.
Lu Fei Fan sensed his feelings and stood up to pat him on the shoulder, speaking earnestly, "You've grown up. A man must learn to take responsibility. While I'm away, Mom and Dad will be in your care. If you encounter any difficulties, seek help from A Teng and Da Li; they will assist you. This will all pass. Just remember not to act impulsively; think things through before acting."
Hua Jun Tang nodded and promised, "Don't worry, brother. I understand."
Lu Fei Fan nodded and was then escorted back to his cell. As he entered, the prisoners in the block erupted in a flurry of excited taunts, but Lu Fei Fan ignored them. He returned to his designated cell and sat cross-legged on the bed for several hours, contemplating that he only had one path ahead: becoming a Fuser was the only way to resolve all issues.
But what was that frenzied state he experienced during the fight with those thugs?
Could it be an awakening of some kind?
In the end, he decided to bring along the Portable Superbrain Device and connect to the internet to consult the Intelligent Life about his many questions.
After the network connected, Lu Fei Fan stood in the Virtual Network world and began to call out.
“Hero, are you there…”
The Data Analysis System buzzed with noise, and the audio started playing sounds reminiscent of Peking opera or radio broadcasts, constantly switching like a radio tuning into different frequencies. What shocked Lu Fei Fan even more was what appeared next on his Virtual Screen—a bizarre and exotic scene.
Several scantily clad women were dancing seductively around a steel pole!
“Damn… are you trying to make me burst from excitement?” Lu Fei Fan was no stranger to such things; in his previous life, he had secretly watched countless films. This low-level temptation was hardly impressive to him. “Please, do you really think this can seduce me?”
The scene shifted abruptly to a raw and chaotic display of men and women engaged in a fierce struggle.
“Hmm, that position isn’t bad; I could write it into my collection of 185 unlocking techniques…” he began to mock. “I didn’t expect even advanced intelligent beings have unique tastes for this kind of content.”
“I’m studying your psychological mapping and physical reactions. Let’s see if you have the willpower,” the Hero replied.
“Hmph, I can still hold myself together.” However, he could clearly feel that his body was still responding in a certain way.
“Tsk tsk tsk, such a stubborn duck; your body’s reactions have betrayed you, yet you still pretend,” the Hero countered. Its chip was implanted in Lu Fei Fan’s brain, so it naturally understood his physical responses.
“Damn it. You really are going against me…” Lu Fei Fan glanced down and cursed, “What’s with this hardness? Get soft already!” He tried to distract himself, and sure enough, the fire within him dissipated significantly after a while.
“Well, it seems I’ll need to play more of these adult films to train your self-control. I’ve found plenty more stimulating ones online that are definitely more intense than what I just showed you,” the Hero said.
“……” Lu Fei Fan felt that this Intelligent life had sunk to a new low. “Why do you only study these things? Are you interested in human reproduction, or tracing the origins of life?”
“Well, not really. I’m just bored out of my mind on the internet. The firewall for Virtual Battlefield is so pathetic that I’ve hacked their servers over a hundred thirty times, and their engineers still haven’t improved anything. They even offered me five million to hire me as their security consultant,” the Hero replied.
“Five million?” Lu Fei Fan’s jaw dropped. “So… did you accept?” He hurriedly asked, as that amount of money could allow his father to transfer to a better hospital for treatment.
“Hmph, those mere mortals! Do they think a high-class noble like me, an advanced virtual Intelligent life, can be easily corrupted by money?” the Hero said confidently. “I’ve hacked their newly patched security Data Analysis System twenty times already, and I plan to hack it another forty or fifty times, completely crippling Virtual Battlefield so I can teach them a lesson…”
Lu Fei Fan was drenched in sweat, wondering if this Hero was for real. It sounded like he was just bragging, but he still pulled up a search engine and checked. Sure enough, an official announcement popped up.
“Due to an unexpected number of virtual hacking attacks, Virtual Battlefield and its official website have temporarily suspended maintenance…”
Lu Fei Fan broke into a cold sweat; it really had been hacked. Could this Hero actually be an advanced AI Intelligent?
“Since you’re so impressive, can you fight?”
Curious, Lu Fei Fan asked the Hero.
