Many Fusers awakened their abilities from a young age, beginning to exhibit their Empowerment and subsequently starting to cultivate and enhance their gifts.
They are extraordinary beings in this world. Apart from enjoying all the benefits of medical care, education, and living conditions provided by the power of their respective nations, they also receive substantial rewards every year. Even the council members and noble families ruling the Free Federation dare not offend them lightly; they are undoubtedly a group standing at the pinnacle of the human hierarchy.
At the onset of the Cataclysm, vast oceans surged, submerging most of the land and leading to the extinction of countless humans. Although each island had protective beacons akin to 'Dark Light' that allowed them to survive, this Cataclysm marked an unprecedented evolutionary explosion for all marine life. Countless monsters in the ocean began terrifying genetic mutations.
During the most challenging early years following the Cataclysm, human islands faced a frenzied invasion by Ocean Monsters. These creatures were bloodthirsty, massive, and evolved to unimaginable levels of size and aggression.
People gradually realized that if they continued to retreat, humanity would inevitably face extinction. Ultimately, a brave group relied on the hot weapons of that era to fight against the Ocean Monsters, suffering heavy casualties.
However, nature seems fair in its treatment of all beings. The impact of the apocalyptic meteorite not only caused mutations in marine life but also led to human evolution. After several battles with the Ocean Monsters, those initial humans began to awaken their gifts.
Strong individuals emerged like mushrooms after rain. Over time, they not only withstood the onslaught of marine creatures but also united their island forces within the Order of the Sea to establish safe and orderly human nations such as the Free Federation, Alliance Empire, Alpha Alliance, and Northern Dipper Republic, allowing humanity to begin restoring civilization.
The most notable event was the Hongfeng Council convened by various nations, which reached an agreement to construct a defensive maritime boundary to collectively combat the Ocean Monsters.
All destruction begins in chaos, but all order is also born from chaos.
Thus, each nation and faction with different systems not only possesses defensive legions but also maintains a certain number of Fusers. They are not only capable of combating Ocean Monsters but can also guard against invasions from other factions; for instance, the Pirate Alliance from the Chaos Sea is one such threat.
However, human hearts are unpredictable. After nearly a century of stability, several nations clashed over territorial disputes in certain seas, leading to multiple internal conflicts driven by human interests and creating barriers and irreparable frictions among human nations.
Of course, Lu Fei Fan did not understand politics; he was concerned about whether he could pass the Aptitude Test. According to the selection criteria for Fusers in the Free Federation, graduates from Free Federation Academy could bypass tedious written exams and gain priority for the Unified Awakeners Examination. If one were an awakened individual, they would be directly recruited by the military.
Lu Fei Fan could also join the army. Graduates from Free Federation Academy enter with at least a third-class private rank; although they may be seen as cannon fodder, their annual salary and benefits are quite decent. The Free Federation even provides food and accommodation, making it an attractive option—much better than being recruited as a first-class private from outside.
If he could join the military and work his way up to a position of authority, life would be worry-free. Not only could he wield power for protection money but occasionally bring along a few lackeys to flirt with respectable women—what more could one ask for in life?
The kind of idyllic life was precisely what Lu Fei Fan, a rogue at heart, yearned for. Of course, fantasies are beautiful, but reality is often cruel.
Currently, the rumors surrounding his inability to graduate were spreading like wildfire. As the saying goes, fame can be a double-edged sword; Lu Fei Fan had already gained quite a reputation at the Free Federation Academy, and now it seemed that his notoriety was only growing.
Reflecting on this, Lu Fei Fan found himself and Niu Dali standing before an impressively futuristic building. They gazed up at the oval-shaped structure with its abstract design, which was none other than the Science and Technology Museum. No one knew what the designer had envisioned it to resemble.
In fact, Lu Fei Fan had previously argued with Niu Dali and others about its appearance.
"It looks like a duck egg!" Niu Dali concluded with his limited insight.
"I think it resembles a woman's bra..." chimed in their close friend A Teng with a rather crude assessment.
"I see it as a giant pair of underpants; just look at those glass windows on top—they're like the holes in Big Li's underwear," Lu Fei Fan recalled a building that had once appeared in another world.
"Hey, how do you know what my underwear looks like..." Big Li exclaimed, suddenly covering his backside as if feeling exposed.
"Come on, you hang them out on the dorm window sill. A Teng has woken up in the middle of the night several times thinking they were towels for his face," Lu Fei Fan retorted.
"Ugh..." came a retching sound from a corner, likely due to the vivid imagery being too much to handle.
Whenever Lu Fei Fan thought back to this incident, he couldn't help but feel slightly nauseous. He truly admired A Teng's resilience; Big Li's underwear had an unmistakable odor reminiscent of stale urine, yet he had seen A Teng treasure them as if they were a prized possession while washing his face. The expression on his face suggested he was lost in some delightfully wicked daydream.
The image was too vivid to contemplate. Shivering slightly, he quickly shook off those thoughts as he and Niu Dali entered the Science and Technology Museum.
The facilities within were undoubtedly more user-friendly compared to the prison-like design of student dormitories. The atmosphere was elevated and infused with a sense of futuristic wonder—a true testament to human evolution.
The two of them walked through a grand corridor supported by four towering metal pillars, each over ten meters high, and arrived at an entrance adorned with transparent floor-to-ceiling glass doors. They each scanned their student cards to gain entry.
Inside the hall, the floor gleamed brightly and was smooth, creating a spacious and impressive atmosphere. Rows of tall shelves were filled with a dazzling array of technological products that caught the eye. Some students moved about on automated escalators, seemingly engrossed in studying these innovative or already successful technological creations.
After passing through the exhibition area, they entered a networking zone where the first "Superbrain Device" was born—an invention that connected human consciousness to the Virtual Network. This groundbreaking device was developed over a century ago by a talented student named Chong Ben, and it still drew many aspiring scholars to this technological sanctuary.
In front of rows of tables, screens were set up, and numerous individuals wore fixed Superbrain Device helmets, continuously interacting with floating virtual screens in front of them. They tapped and swiped at the screens, seemingly browsing through various content. A small group of others sat inside fixed capsule-like Superbrain Devices, connecting to various instruments as they immersed themselves in the vast world of the Virtual Network.
Lu Fei Fan had naturally experienced the Virtual Network before. It mirrored the real world with skyscrapers, villas, luxury cruise ships, and everything one could imagine—more extravagant and expansive than this island world he inhabited, making it hard to leave.
However, the Superbrain Devices at the technology center were quite affordable; they were among the earlier generations of products that had been phased out from mainstream use. They often encountered issues like freezing or disconnections, similar to the computers Lu Fei Fan had used back on Earth. Yet, the academy's Superbrain Devices not only provided access but also allowed users to download various simulations for practical learning. For instance, medical students could download medical simulation modes to conduct realistic patient treatments, while aspiring drivers could practice with realistic vehicle simulation tools. All of this required sufficient Federal Coins for consumption.
Lu Fei Fan found this far superior to his previous rote learning experiences. He could even find simulation games where he played as a rogue harassing several respectable women with his lackeys, which thrilled him immensely. He felt grateful for the developers who created such simulation programs.
However, today he wasn't in the mood for surfing the net. As he walked alongside Niu Dali, he began scanning the area for familiar faces. After passing through the networking zone of the technology center, they entered a large hall where several students' discussions caught Lu Fei Fan's attention.
"Hey, did you hear? Someone's about to get famous in the west hall!"
"Wow, that's explosive! Where? Let's hurry over!"
"Is it a guy or a girl? We can't miss a girl; we definitely can't miss a guy either!"
"Didn't someone just run around campus naked not long ago? Someone's already copying that? Let's go check it out!"
Instantly, the previously calm atmosphere of the technology center erupted into excitement as many people rushed toward the West Hall to catch this spectacle, eager not to miss out on the commotion.
Lu Fei Fan and Niu Dali, who never missed a chance to watch even the most trivial of events, were naturally eager to join the crowd gathering at the scene. After all, it could very well involve a woman, so they exchanged knowing glances and followed the throng.
By the time they reached the West Hall, it was already packed with people, layers upon layers of spectators. The crowd was buzzing with chatter, pointing and speculating about what was happening. Many had even pulled out cameras to stream live on the Virtual Network, capturing the moment of an eccentric alumnus who was about to make history at their school.
After pushing through the crowd, Lu Fei Fan and Niu Dali finally squeezed in to see what was going on. To their amusement, they found a striking metallic sculpture of a horse in the center of the hall. The horse stood with its front hooves raised in mid-gallop, its back legs firmly planted as if charging toward freedom.
However, what caught their attention was not just the sculpture but rather what was happening behind it. A completely naked person was clinging tightly to the horse's rear! With their bare backside facing the crowd, what made this sight even more eye-catching were the words “Art” scrawled in an uneven manner across their white skin.
“That backside… looks oddly familiar,” Lu Fei Fan remarked thoughtfully, stroking his chin as he scrutinized the figure.
“Yeah, I feel like I’ve seen it before too. It’s so plump and firm, and look at those little bumps—especially that mole on their rear,” Niu Dali added as he examined it closely.
“Could it be…” Lu Fei Fan seemed to have an inkling of who it was but hesitated to say more.
At that moment, the young man with his arms wrapped around the horse sculpture turned his head and spotted Lu Fei Fan and Niu Dali standing among the crowd. His face lit up with desperation as he whimpered for help through a mouth sealed shut with duct tape.
Lu Fei Fan and Niu Dali exchanged glances; this infamous figure was none other than A Teng, the very person they had been looking for!
