You Xun Long snapped back to reality, staring at the mysterious figure before him.
"I will not be like you filthy 'crows'!" He gazed resolutely at the stranger.
"Heh, is that so? What a pity," the mysterious man chuckled darkly.
Bang!
A deafening gunshot echoed from the building below, sending shockwaves through the air.
A dazzling beam of light shot up like a comet, striking You Xun Long mid-air. He quickly turned and blocked the shot with his long hammer, his body jolting from the impact. He steadied himself and caught sight of the person firing at him from below.
"Aman..."
The woman below lowered her two-meter-long special rectangular Energy Gun and looked up at him. Finally, she raised it again to aim, her cold and indifferent expression showing no hint of hesitation. She was none other than the Female Colonel, who had reported to You Xun Long just moments ago in the lighthouse!
What You Xun Long never expected was that she, who had followed him for ten years and was his most trusted ally, would betray him! Why?
In this terrifying and vast web of conspiracy, she was also a part of it—something he could never have anticipated.
Taking advantage of You Xun Long's momentary distraction, the mysterious man unleashed a surge of black Energy Flow. His energy erupted like a volcanic explosion as he charged forward, while You Xun Long activated his golden energy to counter it.
The mysterious man's boiling black energy surged forth, transforming into several ferocious black dragons that lunged at You Xun Long with bared fangs and claws. Surrounded by this onslaught, You Xun Long erupted with intense golden light. But at that very moment, when he was at his weakest, a series of cold and merciless shots rang out from the Sniper Rifle locked onto him from below.
He froze momentarily in mid-air as the Light Shield surrounding him was repeatedly struck by the terrifying energy sniper bullets, causing violent explosions around him. Finally, the mysterious man's overwhelming Black Energy split into countless massive black hounds that surged toward him with a roar.
The ground shook violently as dark black-gold light rippled through the air, creating a terrifying shockwave.
Then came a spray of blood as You Xun Long plummeted like a kite with its string cut.
A figure dashed swiftly across the battlefield amidst the chaos of monsters, leaping up to catch the falling You Xun Long.
At the same time, A Lian charged through the building in pursuit of the sniper. Armed with two sleek Energy Pistols, she sprinted forward and leaped off a building's height to fire two shots at the sniper's hidden position. The large-caliber Energy Pistols unleashed blasts that obliterated half of the structure. However, the traitorous Female Major General rolled away just in time to evade this attack. She quickly grasped her Sniper Rifle and stealthily disappeared into the building.
The opponent's speed completely exceeded A Lian's expectations, and in the end, she lost track of him and had no choice but to retreat.
As the crowd gathered, soldiers who noticed the general's fall rushed over, forming a temporary defensive line to fend off the monsters, allowing others to attend to the general. Among them was the Male Lieutenant, Major General.
On You Xun Long's chest, a wound the size of a bowl appeared as if it had been burned, flesh and blood shattered into black ash.
“Military Doctor! Military Doctor! Get a damn Military Doctor over here!” the Male Lieutenant shouted desperately at his subordinates.
“No need to look for one; they can't treat the effects of this Dark Matter Tear Bullet…”
“General…” The Male Lieutenant knelt on the ground, tears streaming down his face, filled with anguish.
A Lian arrived with her guns drawn. Upon seeing her captain lying in her arms, she froze for a moment before hurriedly kneeling down. She placed her guns aside and embraced the fallen man, gently tracing his handsome face with trembling fingers, unable to believe what was happening as she cried softly.
“Brother… my dear brother, it’s okay, it’s okay…”
With just a flicker of life left in him, You Xun Long managed a weak smile and said, “Sister… you’re here…” With that, the young general slowly closed his eyes, forever slipping into eternal sleep.
A Lian held his young head and wailed loudly, hot tears streaming down her face. He was her only remaining family in the world, yet he was gone just like that. He was so young and had such a bright future ahead—how could this happen? How could it end like this? She couldn’t accept it.
At that moment, members of the Reaper Squad arrived. One bald man wielding dual axes advanced under the cover of his teammates, protecting a Metal Box as they approached the tower. Behind him were elite members of the Reaper Squad—the same ones their captain had rescued earlier.
“Captain, look! The Tide has changed!” one of the squad members shouted.
The captain turned to look at the Sea Surface, which was undergoing terrifying transformations.
Above the ocean, dark clouds rolled ominously in the sky as dozens of different tornadoes descended upon the Sea Surface, sucking up black seawater. The chaos escalated; they grew thicker and more violent, churning the already tumultuous Sea Surface into boiling waves as if signaling an apocalypse.
The captain surveyed his surroundings; their defensive line had completely collapsed. The Monster Legion was advancing towards the lighthouse.
“Let’s go to the lighthouse!” he commanded. He picked up You Xun Long's lifeless body and ran into the tower. A Lian was pulled along by the bald man. They all reached the top of the tower where he laid You Xun Long's body on the ground.
"Go on, I will complete the final mission." A Lian wiped the tears from her face and suddenly said to her team, "Stop advancing; there should still be enough energy in the tower to activate the emergency Teleportation Array."
"A Lian..." The captain held her back, contemplating something.
She looked at him for a moment and did something unexpected. She picked up two guns, pointing one at her own head and the other at him.
"Captain, it has always been you who acted recklessly while I restrained you. Now, let me be reckless just this once." With that, she scanned the faces of her teammates, all of whom were silently watching her.
Roar!
Outside, a giant beast roared as the remaining warriors rushed toward the tower. The monsters pouring in had completely blocked the exit.
The captain stared at her in silence.
"Captain..." The bald man stepped forward and shouted.
After a moment of silence, the captain gritted his teeth and said, "Activate the destruction device; everyone else into the Teleportation Array!"
Everyone stepped into the Teleportation Array. The captain took one last look at A Lian before entering as well.
The countdown on the lighthouse's screen showed half a minute remaining until completion, but they wouldn't last that long; the monsters had already begun to destroy the lighthouse.
A Lian pressed the button to stop the advancement and activated the final energy transfer switch for the lighthouse.
The energy ring of the Teleportation Array surged with light, and everyone began to distort and blur. Only the captain's gaze remained clear as he looked outside at A Lian. She forced a final smile for this beloved man, despite her sorrow.
Swish!
That tear-streaked face would forever be etched in his heart, but sometimes, eternal farewells come so suddenly.
Once all the team members had been teleported from the platform, there was no one left around the towering lighthouse; only monsters filled the area. The entire island was swarming with massive beasts and crawling creatures, while flying monsters surrounded the lighthouse. Many began to climb and destroy it.
A Lian gazed at her brother lying in the hall as if he were asleep.
“Brother, I’ll stay here with you.”
With that, she slowly pressed the switch on the Metal Box. The Metal Box unfolded, and a terrifyingly bright energy sphere emerged from its core, constructed by rapidly flowing energy supports. This box was a special destruction device!
As it opened up, it automatically connected to the energy lines of the lighthouse, crazily siphoning all the energy from it. A Lian gazed at the dark world outside and spoke towards that distant direction.
“Goodbye…”
She pressed the activation button of the destruction device, and the hundred-meter-high Dragon Tooth Lighthouse erupted into a massive mushroom cloud of light, roaring over the Sea Surface. All monsters and islands were engulfed by the explosive energy flames…
Year 0 of the Free Federation.
Dragon Tooth Island faced an unprecedented second great Tide.
All 250,000 defending soldiers perished, and the island was ultimately destroyed.
…
Days later, in a safe maritime area within the Free Federation, on a Civilian Island.
It was the Meiyu season, and heavy rain seemed to envelop the entire world, draping this tranquil island in a layer of gray mist, as if trying to wipe away all the profound sadness of this world…
The rain pelted down on the scattered residential buildings of the island, splashing layers of water mist.
It was this seemingly endless Meiyu weather that made people prefer to hide indoors rather than venture outside to be drenched by the relentless rain.
Between the village houses paved with gravel paths, two figures cloaked in black raincoats walked—one tall and one short.
They stopped in front of a Civilian House with curling smoke rising from its chimney and began to knock on the door.
Knock knock—
“Who is it? Coming!”
The voice of the mistress echoed from inside the house, and shortly after, the door creaked open. The mistress, wearing an apron, peeked outside but found no one there. However, when she looked down, she discovered a one-year-old child wrapped in a blanket, peacefully sleeping at her doorstep.
“Oh dear, Lao Hua, this is serious! Come quickly!” the woman called out urgently from inside. She hurriedly picked up the baby and turned to go back inside, unaware that two figures in Rain Cloaks were crouched on the roof above, eavesdropping.
“What happened? Why is there a child here?” the man inside asked in surprise.
“I don’t know who left it. There’s no one outside,” the Housewife replied.
“Who could be so heartless as to abandon a child at someone’s doorstep in this heavy rain? What if something happens…” the man cursed.
“Oh dear, we need to go find out whose child this is…”
A flash of lightning streaked across the sky filled with dark clouds, followed by a rumbling thunder. Meanwhile, the two figures on the roof had vanished without a trace.
The rain continued to pour down, bringing an unexpected twist to this tranquil island village.
And all of this was merely the beginning.
