Morning always arrives quietly as the night fades away.
The dawn gradually outlines the unique features of this blue planet, revealing a vast oceanic world. In the endless expanse of sea, the once sprawling continents have vanished, replaced by numerous diverse islands.
The Free Federation is a national entity composed of tens of thousands of island cities, with Steel Fortress Mo Bei Island being just one among them. Beyond its coastal waters lies Dragon Tooth Island, which can be considered a large island city in its own right. Surrounding it are various islands scattered like stars around the moon.
This island, hailed by the Free Federation as the most promising candidate for becoming a major island city, now lies in ruins, barely clinging to life like a dying giant.
All ordinary citizens have evacuated to the safe waters of the Free Federation, leaving only various Main Force Corps stationed in the waters around Dragon Tooth Island.
A range of military equipment, defensive fortifications, and even coastal positions of legions have been established on Dragon Tooth Island and its surrounding islands. They are striving to construct an impregnable Coastal Defense Line.
At the center of this island's Coastal Defense Line stands Dragon Tooth Island itself. The island is filled with towering buildings and organized layouts. Viewed from above, it still faintly retains the scale of a city poised to become a major island.
In the urban center of the island, a tower rises to a height of eight hundred meters, resembling a giant needle that pierces the ground, pointing straight up and shimmering with a unique glow, like flowing energy.
In the hall at the top of the tower, screens occupy all available viewing space. The screens display images of Main Force Corps constructing fortifications alongside complex data. Most captivating is the large black sphere that encircles the tower; countless pipes extend from it to connect all the screens. These pipes continuously transmit streams of energy, updating information, images, and data on each connected screen.
Notably, three parallel screens display a massive electrocardiogram resembling a human heart's rhythm, pulsing steadily.
In front of it stands a tall man dressed in Free Federation Army attire. He appears to be in his early thirties, yet his shoulders bear the insignia of a first-class General.
He has an elegant appearance with an intellectual demeanor and wears gold-rimmed glasses. At this moment, he is deeply engrossed in reading a thick classical book titled Myriad Worlds.
"Long Tooth, how much time do we have left?" the scholarly man suddenly inquired.
The screen displaying the electrocardiogram immediately switched to a countdown timer, showing specific numbers as seconds ticked down one by one, indicating that time was slipping away.
“Twenty minutes and three seconds,” a mechanical voice echoed in the hall in response to him.
After a brief silence, he spoke again.
“It’s about to begin…” A hint of concern spread across his brow.
“As long as we hold out for eight hours and three minutes, we can complete it,” the mechanical voice stated once more.
“What do you think our chances of success are?” the General asked it again.
“Tide level unknown, unable to perform data analysis,” the cold mechanical voice replied.
The General did not ask any further questions. At that moment, behind him, two teleportation platforms flickered with soft light, and with a wave of energy, two figures appeared, gradually shifting from distorted shadows into solid forms.
A pair of young Male and Female Aides materialized. The man was handsome yet rugged, while the woman exuded elegance with her spirited demeanor. Both wore the insignia of Major General on their shoulders. They saluted the General, who had not turned to face them, their respect genuine and heartfelt.
“General, the Judgment Iron Legion, Titan Artillery Corps, and Thor Air Defense Corps—three main battle groups—along with five coastal defense legions totaling two hundred thousand troops are all in position and fully prepared,” the Female Major General reported succinctly.
“In addition, the ‘Roar’, ‘Death Scythe’, and ‘God’—three Trump Card level Lighthouse Guard special operations teams—have arrived at Dragon Tooth Island and have been deployed according to your instructions to reinforce weak points in the defense,” the Male Lieutenant added.
“Hmm, what about the civilians?” The General asked without turning around.
The Male and Female Aides exchanged glances before the Female Colonel replied, “The urban islands surrounding Dragon Tooth Island have largely fallen; monsters are landing everywhere. Nearly half of the civilians didn’t have time to…” She paused, unable to continue.
The General did not press further; the grim reality was evident.
“What about the Reaper Squad?”
The male Major General hesitated before responding, “We’ve lost communication with them; we currently… cannot reach them at all.”
“We have dispatched troops to repair the damaged base station, but it will take time…” the Female Major General said.
“So… Dragon Tooth Island and this sea area are completely isolated now.” The General smiled, exchanging glances with the Male Female Major General, unsure whether the General's words were self-deprecating or some kind of optimistic joke.
“Long Tooth, open the windows so we can take another look at the sea,” the General instructed the Black Sphere in the hall, which was filled with tangled wires.
“As you wish.” The Black Sphere complied, turning off all the screens and slowly lowering them, revealing a wide view outside the tall glass windows.
In the distance, storm clouds gathered ominously, with flashes of lightning and rumbling thunder. A dark mass loomed over the Sea Surface, while the Dragon Tooth Island lighthouse provided a panoramic view of the surrounding islands. Aside from the 800-meter tall Dragon Tooth Lighthouse, several other lighthouses stood on nearby islands. Most prominent were ten 100-meter lighthouses on the outer ring of islands, which served as the foundation for all military corps in constructing an island chain defense line. Their significance in this defense line was paramount.
However, at this moment, an unexpected upheaval was quietly unfolding within one of the ten lighthouses located on the South island.
Inside the lighthouse lay bodies scattered everywhere. A winding staircase led to the top of the lighthouse, where a tall, mysterious figure cloaked in black and wearing an exquisite smiling Mask was slowly ascending. In his hand, he held the person responsible for this lighthouse.
“Who… exactly are you?” The man, dressed in a Colonel's uniform of the Free Federation, felt blood dripping from his abdomen. He was not afraid of death; in his final moments, he truly wanted to know what kind of demonic face lay behind that Mask. Nearly a hundred powerful individuals inside the tower had fallen before this person without any means to resist.
