Seeing his comrade torn apart like that, he hadn’t even had the chance to scream before his body was completely swept off balance. It turned out he too had been struck down by a monster that had silently appeared behind him, its claws slicing through him. 0

Behind these two spider-like creatures, which had carapaces resembling iron armor and six limbs, a horde of monsters was crawling up the sides of the building, their sheer numbers sending chills down one’s spine and making one’s legs weak. 0

But before the first two attackers could rush in, bang! 0

One of the monsters’ heads exploded, showering sparks and viscous fluid amidst the shattered carapace. 0

The creature let out a furious roar as it charged toward the source of the gunfire. In the distance, a sniper hidden behind cover was calmly aiming, pulling the trigger to blow another monster’s head off. 0

The electromagnetic armor-piercing rounds were deadly against these armored beasts, especially since the sniper was using an exaggeratedly large energy sniper rifle—clearly a modified version carried by A Lian during their march—its power significantly enhanced. 0

The gunfire startled everyone, and the monsters’ ambush became brazenly apparent. 0

“It’s an Alienated Black Armored Spider!” A Lian shouted as he drew his dual pistols and began firing rapidly. “Everyone, prepare for battle!” 0

Monsters continued to swarm up from all directions. Everyone began to organize defensive lines and shoot at the creatures. The advantages of high-tech energy guns over old-fashioned bullets were evident at this moment, showcasing their incredible firepower in rapid succession. 0

The monsters were pushed back like a tide, and the soldiers even managed to unleash energy cannons on the horde, dismembering many of them and sending their remains plummeting to the ground below. 0

But then came a thunderous crash—the rooftop collapsed as an even larger creature descended: a Destruction Giant Spider, its carapace thicker and its size comparable to a truck. Its limbs swept across the concrete like it was made of tofu, demonstrating its terrifying destructive power. 0

Several soldiers fired energy cannon rounds at it, but they only created a few craters without inflicting any significant damage. The creature swung its body around violently, knocking several soldiers away; those unfortunate enough to be caught in its path were quickly overwhelmed and devoured by the surrounding monsters. 0

Roar! 0

This giant spider bellowed as it lumbered toward the humans. Suddenly, one soldier charged into its path with a thunderous crash against the massive creature. 0

When everyone realized what had happened, they saw a muscular soldier clad only in military pants and bare-chested. His hands suddenly braced against the monster, astonishingly managing to halt its charge! 0

The creature raised its claws in frustration to attack this human, but he deftly dodged and seized one of its limbs, forcefully tossing it aside. Bang! Bang! Bang! The heavy body of the giant spider crashed through numerous buildings before flying out of this structure entirely, smashing into another building with a deafening collapse—its fate unknown. 0

The crowd of monsters was met with a flurry of spinning daggers that zipped effortlessly around the Black Armored Spider's body. With a series of sharp cracks, the creatures shattered into pieces, their bodies splintering apart. One by one, the daggers returned to the hand of the Masked Man, who cast a cold glance around before launching them once more. The blades danced through the horde of monsters, slicing through them with ease, and in an instant, several fell to the ground. 0

Another lean and agile man wielded a crossbow that shot forth arrows shimmering with energy. Each arrow struck true, piercing the Black Armored Spiders with explosive force, sending fiery shockwaves that engulfed their surrounding kin. 0

A Lian was even more formidable, weaving through the dense mass of Black Armored Spiders with remarkable agility, dodging their attacks effortlessly. With two large Energy Pistols in hand, she fired shots that seemed unremarkable but packed a punch comparable to a sniper's Shock Bomb, targeting the leaders among the swarm. 0

Throughout the chaos, the captain remained shielded by his team, cradling the now-awakened Fellow. To his surprise, the Fellow showed no fear; instead, he curiously observed the gunfire and fierce combat around him. The captain held him tightly, astonished yet determined to shield him from any indelible shadows that might mar his childhood memories. 0

The battle raged for about half an hour. Despite their initial advantage in ambush tactics, the Black Armored Spider army left behind nearly a hundred corpses as they retreated swiftly. 0

A Lian stowed her weapons and began directing her team to tend to their injured comrades. The captain and the bald man approached the front of a building, gazing into the dark rain-soaked night at the retreating swarm of Black Armored Spiders. They appeared like a thick layer of ants crawling across the ground, yet they wisely chose to withdraw after encountering resistance. 0

The bald man swung his massive axe, shaking off some viscous residue with a hint of dissatisfaction. "Look at their retreat direction; there must be a big Fellow commanding them." 0

"The Spider Monarch is usually quite cunning," replied the calm captain. "Eliminating it will be challenging. We still need to escort our important cargo; pursuing them too deeply isn't advisable." He understood all too well but had to quell his subordinate's urge to chase after them. 0

"Well then, it seems tonight ends here," the bald man said regretfully as he flicked his lightweight metallic axe. "This Fellow is surprisingly calm; not an ounce of fear." 0

The captain glanced down at the Fellow in his arms. The child looked up at him and then reached out toward the bald man's axe. 0

"Haha! Captain, this Fellow seems to really like my Titanium Thundersteel Axe!" The bald man laughed heartily. "Who knows? He might make a fine warrior someday." 0

"Let’s hope he’s not just like you," the captain replied seriously, nodding in agreement. This elicited laughter from those nearby, easing their tension. 0

"Captain, we have casualty numbers..." A Lian reported a string of figures to him; given that the Black Armored Spiders had launched a nighttime ambush, they had naturally suffered significant losses. 0

"How many?" 0

"Twenty-three dead or injured." 0

The captain's expression darkened slightly as he asked, "What about the cargo?" 0

“Safe and sound,” A Lian replied. 0

“Stay alert and keep watch tonight,” the captain instructed the bald man. “Qin Gang, it looks like you won’t be getting any sleep tonight either. You’ll be in charge of guarding that cargo.” 0

“Not a problem, Captain.” The bald man then whistled at A Lian. “Deputy Lian, how about you keep me company tonight and chat about life? It gets pretty lonely out here.” 0

“Chat with your dead head! I still have to take care of the injured. If anything happens to that thing, I’ll make sure to castrate you!” A Lian said, making a cutting gesture. 0

The bald man flinched, quickly moving over to the cargo, lifting the tarp to reveal the square, dark metal box. He patted it confidently and declared, “Don’t worry! If anything happens to this big box, I’ll take a knife to myself—no, wait, I mean an axe!” 0

“Hmph.” A Lian dismissed him, tired of his boasting and incompetence. 0

The captain then turned to the cold figure beside him, the Masked Man. 0

“Azure Wolf, you’re in charge of the perimeter.” 0

The latter nodded and took a few men with him to keep watch. 0
