Han Ruoxi's eyes were filled with resentment that had nowhere to hide.
"Is there a new plan in mind, Miss Han?" Mu Zhiyuan raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips.
She stared blankly at him. "Are you willing to cooperate?"
With a wicked grin, Mu Zhiyuan replied, "I am a half-brother of Shen Jingyu. We don’t get along. I don’t want to kill him, but I want him to be unhappy."
Clearly, the only person who could influence his thoughts was that woman, Su Xing!
Han Ruoxi didn’t understand why she was collaborating with a man whose eyes constantly reflected such lowly desires. All she knew was that she had lost her mind; in her quest to win over that man, she had abandoned all her principles.
In the evening, Su Xing woke up on the sofa in Shen Jingyu's office.
Earlier that day, feeling down, she had been coaxed into having lunch by Shen Jingyu. Afterward, during the tedious hours he insisted she stay, she gradually closed her eyes.
Shen Jingyu had been remarkably efficient that afternoon. He had studied finance and business management systematically during his university years. Although he had spent the past few years on missions abroad, he hadn’t neglected these skills; compared to the complex tasks he usually handled, this work felt like a breeze.
Without the smoke of battle, he didn’t feel much excitement. However, if this was an opportunity to stay by her side, then Shen Jingyu was willing to take it.
That afternoon, the public witnessed just how ruthless the newly appointed president of this business empire could be.
The news broke about the deceased Sun Zhifei, who had been suffering from a terminal illness. His wife received a substantial sum of money from Mu Zhiyuan, the president of Mu Family's Yao Troupe.
Sun Zhifei was supposed to receive compensation for relocation; however, all the funds ended up with the project manager Liu Jia. She accepted the money but denied its purpose, claiming it was all for her son's medical expenses. The project manager wouldn’t keep paying out money repeatedly.
Initially, Liu Jia had pleaded with the project manager to ensure that the relocation funds went directly to her son for medical costs to avoid any issues with her sister-in-law.
The project manager acted out of compassion once but faced consequences within Shen Shi Yan Tuan as a result.
As a multinational corporation, Shen Jingyu generously provided a sum as compensation to express his condolences.
With some adjustments in wording, comments about Shen Shi Yan Tuan and Shen Jingyu turned positive.
As for the relationship between Shen Huai Min and Shen Jingyu, there was no need for debate; their political dealings had never intertwined.
Proving this point was incredibly easy.
Mu Zhiyuan’s tactics were clearly insufficient in front of Shen Jingyu. With just a little maneuvering and leveraging his connections, Shen Jingyu could keep Mu Family's Yao Troupe busy enough to occupy them entirely!
Thus, when Mu Zhiyuan found himself unable to manage the cancellation of cooperation from various parties in his family business, he sought help from his father.
Just as Su Xing woke up, Shen Jingyu's phone rang sharply.
Shen Jingyu had already silenced his phone, but there was one number he had set to never be muted. When he received a call from Mu Zhenhua, he was just about to get up to answer it when he noticed Su Xing had woken up and was sitting up.
He decided not to move.
Mu Zhiyuan, huh?
Shen Jingyu could easily guess why he was receiving this call. He hadn’t made any moves against the Mu Family earlier, not because he lacked the ability, nor because Deng Xiaoya was still with the Mu Family, but because there hadn’t been a suitable opportunity.
Now that Mu Zhiyuan had come knocking at his door, there was no need for him to hold back.
“Jingyu, your mother has always refused hospital treatment. Do you have any good solutions? You’ve been abroad for a few days; now that you’re back, you should have time to take care of your mother’s condition, right?”
The only good thing Shen Jingyu could recall about the Mu Family was the roof over his head and food on his plate during those years. Though it felt oppressive, it had provided him shelter when he had no power to protect himself.
Mu Zhenhua was clever. He didn’t directly mention the Mu Family’s Yao Troupe or Mu Zhiyuan. Instead, he used Deng Xiaoya as a starting point to reminisce with Shen Jingyu.
“My mother, I will resolve this as soon as possible. If she refuses hospitalization, I can find another place for her.”
On the other end of the line, Mu Zhenhua instinctively frowned.
“Jingyu, I’ve been with your mother for many years. If she falls ill and I were to drive her out of the Mu Family, wouldn’t that tarnish our family’s reputation? Your mother is ultimately part of the Mu Family, and you grew up eating from our table, didn’t you? Your elder brother may not have your capabilities, but in the future, our two families must cooperate more closely since you are intertwined. Don’t you agree?”
The coldness in Shen Jingyu’s eyes deepened: repaying kindness with kindness isn’t always effective.
“Better to nurture gratitude than simply repay it, Jingyu. The Shen Family hasn’t given you a single cent in over ten years. I suppose your return to the Shen Family is also because there isn’t a more suitable heir; you’re just putting in hard work. If you can cooperate well with Zhiyuan, then the Mu Family will be better suited for you.”
Shen Jingyu couldn’t help but laugh at this absurdity. In this life and the next, he would never collaborate with someone like Mu Zhiyuan.
“Mu Zhiyuan, instead of teaching me how to do things, perhaps you should spend more time communicating with those who act recklessly. The more dark paths you tread at night, the more afraid you become of the dark; if you play too many tricks behind the scenes, they will eventually backfire!
I will arrange for my mother to be hospitalized soon. If you need anything as well, I can take care of that too.”
Mu Zhenhua chuckled coldly, "Jing Yu, you’re too considerate! My body doesn’t need your concern!"
Shen Jingyu, hearing the mocking tone, irritably tossed her phone onto the desk. She didn’t bother to hide her frustration from Su Xing, who could roughly guess what she and Mu Zhenhua had been discussing. Those from the Mu Family Main Branch were truly despicable.
Mu Beiyao and Mu Beiming were completely different from them. It was better for the two of them not to become genuine friends with anyone from the Mu Family.
Su Xing quietly observed the man sitting in the large chair not far away, his stern features strikingly handsome. Why was it that someone so capable had to endure such a tumultuous fate?
Shen Jingyu’s thoughts were pulled back by Su Xing’s gaze. She stood up and walked over with a determined stride. "Awake? There’s only this sofa here; it must be uncomfortable, right?"
She looked at Su Xing with concern and even reached out to massage his shoulders and the back of his neck. This office had long been Shen Zhengxin's domain; being a military man, he had his own set of rules. The entire building was equipped with the latest technology for essential needs, but everything else was kept absolutely minimal and frugal.
There wasn’t even a break room in this office. Before Shen Jingyu returned, the professional management team hadn’t worked here either. It was only when she came back that this office was put back into use.
"You don’t have to massage me," Su Xing said, feeling quite uncomfortable. Having such a renowned international CEO give her a massage made her feel good, yet she couldn’t fully enjoy it.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, but Shen Jingyu didn’t stop her movements. "Come in."
She knew very well that at this hour, the only person who would knock on her door would be Luo Hao. After Su Xing had gone to sleep, she instructed that no one should disturb him unless it was urgent.
When Luo Hao entered and saw his boss attending to Sister-in-law in such a manner, he froze for a moment. Would he get kicked out for taking a photo?
