In the past, whenever Shen Jingyu was even slightly close to Su Xing, his body would tense up, and sometimes his ears would turn red without him realizing it. But today, he exuded a relaxed demeanor, almost like a carefree rogue lingering in the brothels, every movement radiating an enchanting charisma.
The elevator stopped on the first floor. Even though it was nine in the evening, there were still some people around. Shen Jingyu, left behind in the elevator, was not as composed as Su Xing had imagined. Under the gaze of two nurses who were practically starry-eyed and the murmurs of discussion behind a medical chart that obscured half his face, he rubbed his fingertip against his nose, lowered his gaze, and cleared his throat before stepping out of the elevator. With his back turned to them, he took a deep breath twice to suppress the fire within him before striding towards Su Xing.
Outside the main entrance, Su Xing had just hailed a taxi. As she entered through one side of the door, the other side opened simultaneously, and Shen Jingyu boldly sat down beside her.
"What are you doing? You drove here yourself; I’m not going your way! Get out!" Su Xing glared at the calm Shen Jingyu with her brows furrowed in annoyance.
"To Xing Yu Mansion. Drive," Shen Jingyu instructed the driver in front.
The driver silently complied.
Su Xing was astonished at how difficult Shen Jingyu had become after their five-year separation. "Wow, Shen Zi, you really have connections everywhere!" she retorted sarcastically.
Shen Jingyu patiently explained, "I didn’t investigate you; we’re neighbors."
"Hmph," Su Xing clearly didn’t trust his words much but chose to remain silent in the taxi. She leaned against the window on her side, trying to distance herself from him while waiting for the car to reach their destination.
Shen Jingyu took a moment to message Luo Hao: "Keep an eye on Ruo Xi. If she dares to harm Su Xing, you will be held accountable."
Luo Hao replied with a crying emoji: "Boss, please spare me! Han Young Lady is going crazy; she’s wrecked the ward beyond recognition. The director is asking me if we should call a psychiatrist for consultation!"
Shen Jingyu responded: "No harm should come to her; everything else is up to you."
Seeing this message made Luo Hao want to wail at the heavens: "Boss, you’re heartless!"
Just as Shen Jingyu put away his phone, Su Xing’s phone rang. Yang Zekai called to briefly report on the situation at Xinghe Street that night.
Thanks to Du Meng's meddling, business was dismal and rumors were rampant. The managers of various shops gathered together to discuss topics that revolved solely around Su Xing.
Yang Zekai was frustrated but felt powerless to defend Su Xing. Hearing his discontent and complaints, Su Xing remained unfazed and calmly replied: "Yang Zekai, remember this: I’ve faced worse slander than this to get where I am today. What others say doesn’t affect my ability to make money."
Instead of feeling resentful, it would be better to stir public opinion, create a buzz, and find ways to generate more revenue for our business.
I’ve learned from you, Sister Xing. But really, you are quite something; valuing money above all else is the highest conclusion that Yang Zekai has drawn after learning management from Su Xing.
I've always loved money since I was young; that’s my confidence. I’ve never treated you unfairly, so just work hard and stop talking nonsense. Next time you encounter something like this, don’t panic. You showed weakness today.
I understand, Sister Xing.
Hmm, feel free to contact me anytime.
Su Xing has ideas about nurturing this clever little brother well; only then can he be trusted to help manage more important businesses in the future.
Shen Jingyu listened as Su Xing referred to another man as "Sister" and taught him with such care, feeling an inexplicable sense of displeasure rising within him.
It wasn’t until they got out of the car that Shen Jingyu asked with a hint of acidity in his tone, “When did that kid start helping you manage Galaxy Bar?”
Hmm? You mean Yang Zekai? He came to me right after graduating from university. After working for a while, I gradually handed over the bar's management to him.
Oh, he probably came shortly after you left.
Shen Jingyu suddenly grabbed Su Xing as she walked toward the door, pulling her tightly into his embrace.
Su Xing felt a sharp pain in her chest from the force of his grip against his solid chest.
This man had undoubtedly become a mature male; nearly every action he took towards her that night was filled with aggression.
Are you going to let him call you sister? Will you take care of him like you do me?
Do you think I have nothing better to do? To raise another arrogant little prince?
Su Xing rolled her eyes at Shen Jingyu without holding back.
When you were constantly talking about suicide, how much energy did I waste comforting you and trying to make you happy? Do you think anyone else could receive that kind of treatment from me?!
Ungrateful man!
Shen Jingyu seemed to hear her unspoken thoughts; he looked directly into Su Xing's eyes and said with certainty, “You’re scolding me. Why don’t you dare say it out loud?”
I can’t be bothered to argue with you. Let go of me; I want to go home. You’re not allowed to follow me anymore. The security system in my upscale apartment is very thorough; I wouldn’t mind causing some trouble just for peace and quiet.
Su Xing struggled against his grip with all her might.
But Shen Jingyu leaned closer to her ear, sending a wave of heat through her neck and mind.
His voice was sensuous and moist, penetrating deep into her soul: “Don’t move. No, I’m going to kiss you.”
"You rogue!"
Just as Su Xing was about to scold him, she heard his next words and released the strength she had been using to break free.
"Du Meng is watching from the car over there. It seems he doesn't plan to let you go easily."
For a moment, Su Xing was lost in thought; she didn't know how to quickly deal with the trouble that was Du Meng. His relentless pursuit was indeed a tricky problem.
As if sensing Su Xing's confusion and emptiness, Shen Jingyu's sharp gaze locked onto the menacing eyes peering from the car window not far away.
While pushing Du Meng back, he also loosened his embrace, intertwining his fingers with Su Xing's hand instead.
Whether intentional or not, as Shen Jingyu moved away from Su Xing's body, his warm, soft lips brushed past her ear, glided across her cheek, and lightly touched the corner of her lips. The fleeting contact magnified the special sensation in her senses.
In that moment of distraction for Su Xing, the two of them held hands and walked through the entrance of Xing Yu Mansion.
"Huh? How did you get in here?"
In a strange twist of fate, Su Xing found herself standing in the same elevator as Shen Jingyu.
All access points in the community were equipped with smart devices; once the elevator recognized their faces, it automatically selected their floor.
Su Xing was surprised to discover that the elevator recognized both of them without triggering an alarm for any unfamiliar visitors; instead, it directly lit up her floor.
Thinking quickly, she realized that aside from her apartment on the forty-fifth floor, there was another unit across from hers.
Could that vacant apartment belong to Shen Jingyu?
Seeing Su Xing's expression grow more animated, Shen Jingyu understood that she had figured it out.
"I told you, we are neighbors," he said at just the right moment.
"Shen Jingyu, I suddenly feel like you're very unfamiliar and... frightening!"
At that moment, Su Xing felt that this man was utterly pervasive and seemed to possess many unusual powers. He was both the same and completely different from before.
"Star, I’ll give you time to slowly get to know me. This time I won’t just stand by waiting for you to come closer like I did in the past. I will take the initiative to let you understand everything about me."
"But we must get married soon."
After hearing his words, Su Xing looked into his eyes, which were filled with a guarded expression.
Why are you so eager to marry me, Shen Jingyu? It’s hard not to suspect that you have ulterior motives.
