Lin Yu turned to look at the the Xia Family and then at the few people being held captive. He understood that releasing them would increase the risk of mission failure and could invite more danger. This was the ironclad rule of the Shadow Guard: never leave any threats behind. His gaze finally landed on the little boy, whose eyes were slightly open, as if caught between dreams and reality. Suddenly, the boy's lips moved, and he seemed to say to Lin Yu, "Sin... is just one more entry..."
These words struck Lin Yu like a sharp sword, piercing his heart. The boy's gaze held an inexplicable insight that stirred turmoil within Lin Yu. He knew that this statement was profound, as if reminding him that every action is a choice, and every choice carries consequences.
Lin Yu's mind flashed with countless images, the missions he had carried out, the innocent faces, and the lives that had fallen by his blade. Every time, he told himself that it was his duty, his loyalty, a mission that must be completed. However, at this moment, his heart was in turmoil. He knew deep down that if he continued to kill, he would forever bear the endless guilt, but if he stopped, his colleagues, his friends, and himself would face unpredictable danger.
Just then, Li Mu shouted, interrupting his thoughts. "Lin Yu, decide the fate of this family quickly!"
Li Mu's voice carried a hint of impatience. He knew time was running out and he couldn't delay any longer. Lin Yu took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. As a member of the Shadow Guard, he understood that his decisions couldn't be swayed by emotions. However, the words of the young boy still echoed in his ears, making it impossible for him to completely ignore the struggle within his heart.
He looked at the mother and son again. The woman's eyes were filled with despair, while the child's gaze was calm and insightful. Lin Yu knew that this child might not be as fragile as he appeared on the surface; his composure concealed a future threat. Lin Yu felt conflicted; his rationality told him to complete the mission and eliminate all threats, but his conscience resisted such ruthlessness.
"Lin Yu, we cannot leave any potential threats behind."
Lin Yu struggled intensely in his heart. He knew Li Mu was right. This was the principle of the Shadow Guard and also the rule for their survival. Letting this mother and child go might bring them endless trouble and could also lead to the failure of their mission. Thinking of this, he took a deep breath, and his eyes hardened.
"Kill them all," Lin Yu finally made up his mind, his tone no longer wavering. "Not a single one can be left alive."
Li Mu nodded, a glimmer of agreement flashing in his eyes. He immediately commanded the men in black to act, and the entire the Xia Family, including the mother and child, were swiftly executed.
The execution unexpectedly did not cause much commotion, only a few brief and muffled screams and the sound of blades cutting through the air. Lin Yu did not look at the fallen bodies, instead he stared ahead firmly, trying to convince himself that what they did was right, necessary, and their duty.
As the sound of each blade being sheathed echoed, Lin Yu knew that it was all over. The heavy air seemed to ease with these sounds. However, at that moment, a drop of water suddenly fell from the sky, lightly hitting Lin Yu's face, followed by a second and a third drop. The raindrops became more and more dense, and it began to rain.
Lin Yu silently put on his Conical Hat, and the team members followed suit, donning their own Conical Hats. Rainwater slid down the edges of the Conical Hats, like a silent baptism, but it could not wash away the blood on the ground. The blood on the ground mixed with the rainwater, forming an ever-expanding red vortex that gradually spread outward.
Standing in the rain, Lin Yu let the water hit him, his complex emotions still surging within. He told himself that this was the cruel reality of war, a fate they had to face. However, the innocent faces, especially the calm gaze of that little boy, lingered in his mind, refusing to fade away.
Li Mu stood next to Lin Yu and whispered, "The rain came just in time... it's a great cover for our movements."
Lin Yu lowered his head in silence, pondered for a moment, then made a slight gesture to Li Mu, hooking his index finger to signal that the operation was about to begin. Li Mu immediately understood, turned around, and shouted, "Everyone, get ready!"
The team members behind quickly lined up, each with a serious expression, their eyes shining with focus and determination. They have undergone countless rigorous trainings, approaching each mission with calmness, yet each mission is also a test of life and death.
Lin Yu looked at the fully prepared team members, feeling a sense of heaviness in his heart, but more so a sense of responsibility. He knew that these people relied on his leadership and judgment, and he couldn't let them down or put them in danger.
The rain poured down, washing away the bloodstains on the ground and cleansing the hearts of everyone. Lin Yu took a deep breath and calmly looked ahead. Their target was right in front of them, and this rain was the perfect cover for their operation.
"Let's go!" Lin Yu commanded in a low but authoritative voice.
Lin Yu stood at the edge of the tall building, took a deep breath, and then leaped down suddenly. His figure drew a swift arc in the air, with the wind and rain fiercely beating against his face. His cloak unfolded behind him, spreading out like the powerful wings of a bat. The speed of his descent made his heart race, but his gaze remained cold and stern, tightly focused on the entrance ahead.
The two guards there remained unaware, still standing in front of the tightly locked gate, vigilantly scanning their surroundings. Lin Yu tightly gripped the chain at his waist, and as he was about to land, his eyes became even sharper. In the split second before reaching the ground, he suddenly exerted force, swiftly swinging the chain with his movement.
The other end of the chain is connected to the long sword at his waist. The blade draws a bright silver light in the air, instantly piercing through the rain curtain, directly targeting the throats of two guards. The blade is precise and accurate like thunder, the two guards didn't even have time to make a sound before their heads were separated from their bodies, falling to the ground.
Lin Yu landed steadily, waving his left hand as the chain smoothly retracted the long sword back to his waist. His movements were fluid, without any unnecessary actions. He stood upright, coldly scanning the guards lying in a pool of blood, then gestured towards the direction of the gate.
Li Mu and the other team members quickly caught up, each of them agile and coordinated. They knew that Lin Yu's strike was just the beginning, and their mission was just getting started. Under Lin Yu's guidance, the door silently opened, and the black-clad figures slipped into the target area like ghosts in the night.
The rain continued to pour, mixing with the blood on the ground to form a dark red slush. Lin Yu stood at the front of the team, his eyes flashing with a cold light. He knew that this night's operation would determine the fate of many, and they had to complete the mission, no matter the cost.
