The makeup room was bustling with people. Lin Aishi carefully concealed the fatigue on her face when a woman beside her provocatively asked, “Why don’t you ask your boss to help you out? It would be so much easier than competing with us.”
Lin Aishi couldn’t be bothered to respond. She needed to apply her makeup perfectly and maintain her best state to stand out and secure the opportunity for the New Film.
The pay was high, and there was no need for nudity; even if it meant pushing herself to the limit, she was determined to get it.
Lin Aishi coldly replied, “If you think you’re going to lose, then don’t bother competing.”
The woman’s face flushed with anger, and those around them quickly intervened to separate them.
Lin Aishi smirked slightly as she looked at her exquisite reflection in the mirror, silently sighing.
She needed money, and for money, she was willing to do anything—even betray herself.
As the audition began, three of them entered together while the other actresses waited outside.
When it was Lin Aishi’s turn to go in, someone from the investment side suddenly spoke up, “Please wait a moment; someone will be here shortly.”
The person added, “The final decision rests with my boss.”
Lin Aishi was taken aback but managed a silent smile as she continued to wait.
Then someone pushed the door open, bringing an invisible sense of pressure with them. Lin Aishi’s face turned pale upon seeing who it was.
“Lin Aishi.”
He called her name, his cold lips curling into a smirk. “Long time no see.”
His cold smile sent a chill down her spine. "Zi... Dingqian."
Why was he here?! Why did he have to show up?!
"Mr. Zi," he said with a smile, "I've heard people speak of you. I think you're perfect for this role."
In an instant, curious, angry, and jealous glances were cast in her direction. Lin Aishi looked at him with a blank expression and calmly asked, "Are you the investor for this film?"
"What's wrong? Didn't anyone tell you?" He feigned ignorance, leaning in to whisper, "I know you love money. If you beg me, I might consider it..."
"I..."
Without a second thought, Lin Aishi replied, "Mr. Zi, I don’t think I can take on this role anymore."
She gave up.
She needed money; she could sell herself, her soul, or her body if necessary!
But the one who offered her money, who insulted her and trampled on her dignity, could never be Zi Dingqian.
Otherwise, she would rather die.
Ignoring her agent's frantic cries, Lin Aishi pushed the door open and could even feel Zi Dingqian's burning gaze on her.
He always did this—destroying everything about her. Since he had once treated her so cruelly, since he hated her to the bone, why did he have to appear now?
“Lin Aishi.” In the corridor, someone blocked Lin Aishi's path.
Lin Aishi looked up, surprised and a bit delighted. “An Min? What are you doing here?”
“I’m now Zi Dingqian’s secretary,” Ding Anmin replied. “Aishi, how have you been?”
Lin Aishi felt a rush of panic and turned to flee. She didn’t know how to explain her life over the past few years.
How was she? Lin Aishi wasn’t sure. The past three years had been a blur; she spent her days consumed by work, and her life could no longer be described as simply “good” or “bad.”
All she knew was that the money she earned was still not enough to reclaim what she deserved from Zi Dingqian.
She never imagined she would see Zi Dingqian again, especially after how dismissive he had been toward her back then.
He had said, “You don’t deserve it!”
He had said, “I never want to see a woman like you—so calculating and materialistic!”
Ironically, it was she who wanted to avoid him, yet here he was.
